I also live in a total slaughterhouse filled with Cooper's Hawks and Peregrines. My methodology for much of the year was to toss two to three times per site. My observation was that my losses were coming on the 2nd and especially the 3rd toss. Once I started limiting tosses to only once per spot, losses dropped. I believe that the BOPs were probably waiting in the vicinity on the 2nd and 3rd tosses, especially when you consider that two neighboring lofts were also utilizing some of the same toss sites. I also think that doing one large toss is the equivalent of putting a flashing neon sign up for the BOPs and that these smaller releases attract less falcon pressure.
I have had pigeons since I was born my grandfather raised me 1961 born as soon as I got old enough I started taking of them We would only take 4 or 5 at a time to release them sometimes at 350 mile away and they would make it home before us never lost any to hawks or anything
Depending on how fast and quality of your stubborn bird is pair him then put false eggs under them before you want to race him a day before the race take hen away when he's on the eggs take him off the nest then put hen back in when he's in the basket as soon he gets back should trap fast to see his hen make sure he can get to her worked for me and the birds seemed to improve on speed 🤔
