This video brought a tear to my eye, started in 2010 in the mailroom of a local Newspaper in New Hampshire running the inserters and worked my way up to a full time pressman, rolltending, maintenance, color and registration and pre press using the program to make the plates with the images. It was a good run, unfortunately we found out in January we were getting laid off and they were shutting the plant down, March 20th was my last day, it was an amazing run i got to work with some great people and i learned so muchz unfortunately print is a dying industry and press shops are closing left and right. I now work in wallboard manufacturing but ill always be a pressman at heart. I worked from 2010 - 2018 on a Goss Urbanite and then 2018-2023 on a Goss Magnum, 2 different shops owned by the same Company
I worked in a printing company called tampa flyer and it closed down it was my first job Ina printing shop and it recently close after 40 our 50 years I believe it's sad cause it's fun to learn.. then another company called the News chief publisher also closes started losing runs and had to cut employees off shut down and that's where I was training to become a 2nd pressman
The fact is that newspapers are in transition from print to other forms of media that technology has brought into existence over the last twenty years.. and it is a struggle all the way around..
Gear side. I could never like the smell of the press hydraulic fluid. I remember sometimes we had to heat up cylinders making them shrink in otder to remove them.

Just came across your video. Is your press still in production today?
Yes we are still printing about 60 publications mostly weekly newspapers.

I’ve pulled chill rollers before pain in the ass

Hubo necesidad de extraer el cilindro de caucho o mantilla por posible daño, pero hubo también que retirar provisionalmente la varilla de transmisión.
Thanks

Looks like a fun job! Is it getting harder to find work in this field since the popularity of online media?
