| Slovenia scored a breathtaking win in five epic sets over USA to close in on a berth in the Final Four of the 2021 FIVB Men's Volleyball Nations League.
Here's the reaction after the game, from the virtual Mixed Zone:
Micah Christenson (USA): "We had our chances, but we didn't take them. Slovenia made some very good plays, but so did we. Slovenia are a very tough team, they are playing very well here and it's good to see another team playing volleyball at this level."
Jan Kozamernik (Slovenia): "Unbelievable game. We did an amazing job. We stayed in there with a head and I think that was the most important thing. Our mental game was on a very high level. We did an amazing job. I hope we will keep doing this and I hope that every team is going to have problems against us. We hope to win all the remaining matches, but have to go one by one. We have to focus on the next one and take as much rest as possible and bring our mental game tomorrow and try to bring home another victory."

Let’s be clear though, men’s volleyball is maybe 7-8th on the ‘priority list of sports’ in the us. I don’t know Slovenian culture well, but indoor VB for men is probably far more prevalent.
@@Thomas_Erickson Somewhat true, though volleyball players' engagement in it would be enough, with providing and drafting obviously easier for the US. For us volleyball is about 4th in line, before it would be skiing, basketball and cycling.
@@blackadster. the other key factor in this would basically be reps. The Slovenian team has basically played the full Vnl with the same lineup. A lot of the us players are still getting back to it, which definitely was a factor. That being said, Slovenia definitely earned the win, but I’m glad the USA actually played a solid 5 sets.
The us has 255.000 licensed men players with 1200+ teams and Slovenia has 1.775 with 101 teams..

I don't know if USA is still playing a strategy game but it seems like they are. Even Russia who's their number 1 rival in the previous VNL tournaments are not ensured of a Final 4 spot. Maybe these two teams are just using VNL as a training ground or something. But I still think USA needs to be more aggressive beginning Set 1 and hammer on their opponents just like before. The best takeaway from this game is that the Sander, Anderson, Christenson, Holt, Defalco and Shoji line up looks good for the Olympics.

So many close matches has plagued team USA for many years. They just couldn’t close out matches. They tend to choke down the wire.

So far there is Sander there, the rest of the team will have to catch up with him. Anderson is half of the man. Holt is half of the man. Smith is not playing at the level he did in ZAKSA. I am done here. Did I say Anderson is half the man? Well, he will catch up for Olympics but now I am saying half for encouragement.

This is nothing more than practice after not playing for over a year. Any team making 33 errors is not going to win a match. Now they can practice then continue for another two weeks. By then hope they are digging better making less error and playing better defense with better potision on the floor.

Concordo, até estranha essa postura. Sander jogando pelo clube é bem profissional. Parecia querer se mostrar pros colegas de seleção, o que é uma viagem visto que ele é o capitão da equipe... então presume-se que ele deveria ser mais respeitoso com o adversário. FRANKLY SPEAKING, DISASTER. Slovenia and USA are equal.
Meh… I mean this USA line up definitely was. But keep in mind I think USA wins this in set 4 if Matt Anderson plays set 4. Tay got subbed too, both due to nagging injuries. Don’t forget Russell isn’t playing either, who is at least as good as cebulj. Obviously they are excuses in a sense, but judging this as USAs best product isn’t accurate. They came to this match at a pretty big overall disadvantage.
