As someone who strongly resonates with the 1980s/90s but was born in the early 2000s-I'm so happy you shared these books/showed the pictures inside! I aspire to incorporate the 80s however I can in my life so seeing these images definitely makes me feel inspired. =] Glad I can appreciate these gems with you dawg thanks for uploading!
I was there, what seems like a thousand years ago. I grew up among these designs. Not for my house, we weren't rich, so it was more like the wood panel and faux brick walls. But I remember visiting people who had the recessed floor couches, the oil drip "rainy" wire cylinder scene. Some very bright blue shag carpet. I saw AC ducts bent around exactly like the red one you showed from the book. It's one thing to see pictures of this stuff and be fascinated, but I was there, and fascinated at the time too. Everything had a lot of character, a lot of imagination, and color. Amusement parks, local water parks too. Their designs for spaces were off the hook in this exact same way. I remember an indoor "mall" style Holiday Inn that had an indoor/outdoor pool. Hottubs, game room, indoor putting course. It all looked this way. In the 80s it was absolutely the best, but time moves on. The mirror walls, the ultra-thin carpet floor in that classic 80s two tone brown. That 80s theme geometry around the put golf course. Once the style of the 80s was over, it was over for that Holiday Inn and all the places like that too. Gone forever, they exist only to haunt my dreams.
This was amazing. I don’t remember much about the 80s but I do remember the interior design. I loved the look of everything. And I still do. Watching this felt like a warm sunny walk down memory lane.
Wild I stumbled across this video. About a month or two ago I was listening to some vaporwave/synthwave and specific artists I listen to often uses old movie quotes in their music. I loved the cadence of their voices. It's just beautiful. So it got me on this sort of nostalgic kick, and it made me think about old movies, specifically from the 80s and 90s and the rooms that they were filmed in. I feel like there's a particular movie that my subconscious remembers that I'm longing to see yet cannot place my finger on what movie it was from. So I just started Googling to see what I could find. I just saw photo after photo of these 1980s interior homes but they just call to me in a way I can't describe. I was born in the 90s so I never really got a chance to really see these places firsthand, but I hope that someday if I own my own home (shoutout to you, housing crisis) that I will be able to design one of my rooms to have an elegant design like these from the past. p.s. Also I came across an instagram channel called "the_80s_interior" that I definitely recommend if you enjoy this stuff.
It's currently 1 am as I'm typing this comment. I don't usually comment on videos but I felt like contributing to the topic. I very much understand the mesmerizing feeling you get looking at these pictures. The moment I saw the thumbnail and title of this video it caught my attention. The photos feel so nostalgic in a way even though I couldn't have possibly ever seen interior design like this in my lifetime. Earlier this day I was thinking about how much I loved the interior design of the bathroom in the hotel I'm staying at. It may not be anything grand or impressive but it's nice and it's comfortable. I feel like the same goes for these photos. It may not be something too special but it's nice to look at isn't it? You can appreciate the thought and effort that went into these interiors and the whole book in general. The photos for me both feel very unique and familiar at the same time. It has such a specific charm to it. I guess thats what makes it so intriguing in the first place. I shall end this comment off by saying I am glad I stumbled across this channel and your video. I hope you'll keep producing more content like this. I also want to compliment the sound choice for this video, it fits the vibe really well and definitely improved the quality of the video. Good job :)
I really appreciate your comment, Im glad that you enjoy this sort of content. I love to appreciate the small things and that book really inspired me to look at the world around me. I will continue to make videos like this in the future if that opportunity ever comes. Thank you
I don't know what it is about it that I like so much. I think you made a good point by saying that it is so different to what the trends and styles are right now.
I still have some design books from 70s and 80s, including a book of Laura Ashley interiors. They're so beautiful, I couldn't bear to part with them. Modern interiors are so bland, so uniform. I miss colour. Thank you for the video, I loved it. Those books were a great find!
I loved your selection of pictures. Thanks for sharing them with us! I myself have a bunch of vintage interior design books and love flipping through them and getting inspired, too!
As someone who presently resides in a house that was last finished in the 80s and has no intention to do otherwise with it, thank you for making my decor choices better informed. Also if you happen to be that only Amazon seller with the books in stock, enjoy your 10x return, it's well deserved. Liked, shared, subbed.
Love this! Thanks for uploading, does anyone know of any interior design docos from 80s-mid 00's? It'd be sick to find a 1.5 hour doco all about post-modern interiors from the time
Check the internet archive, search up home design or interiors and select those years, i love that era of interiors aswell and its depressing to see everything become samey minimalist ikea junk
@@ricarssoif you like these designs and are tired of boring Tract homes check out the 70s and 80s shed style architecture, they match the vibe and are different every house, same era of aesthetic

@@ricarssoits sad to see so many 70s-90s era interior design get replaced by bland white minimalism

You should check out Tomar Lampert Associates. From the 1970’s to today. Absolutely breathtaking stuff.
