I knew how to knit since I was about 12, but I got into it again during covid when I was bored during college. Now, I stopped working because of high-risk pregnancy and I’m again spending time at home. Knitting really helps me not to be in a stereotype and to fill the empty moments. I basically cannot imagine what I would do all those days without that hobby.

Generational trauma has always gotten in the way of me and my mums relationship. When I started with crochet we were able to finally connect on a shared interest, after seeing her knit blankets, scarfs and clothes my whole life. In the last few months I began knitting and now I truly appreciate the effort my grandmother put into the little knit animals she would make and give me every time I visited her in Russia. Knit and crochet feels so personal to me now and makes me wonder how many women in my family before me did the same.

Knitting taught me patience and got me through some massive injuries I sustained from a car accident (involving being wheelchair bound for several months, about 10 surgeries and chronic pain). When I was recovering my grandmas was helping to take care of me and one day asked me if I wanted to learn how to knit. I didn't realize that day was going to change the trajectory of, what has been so far, the next 14 years of my life. Knitting has taught me so much, it's soothed me through anxious times and empowered me to know how functional my art can be.

Knitting has provided an outlet for me when I'm stressed, frustrated, anxious, or tired. I'm able to just sit and find a bit of peace while making something beautiful! Plus, it's been a great conversation starter for people from all sorts of different backgrounds- everyone has their own take about what seems the most interesting or confusing about fiber crafts.

Thanks for "promoting" motherhood! As a grandmother, I was encouraged listening to your advice to other young mothers! Life is a miracle. Parenthood is difficult, but learning to lay down your own desires for the sake of a loved one fulfills you and changes you in a way nothing else ever can. So true! ❤ Plus, the days and nights may seems long, but the months and years truly are quite short.

I'm glad she paints motherhood in such a warm light as well! I'm a single young woman with no kids so I can't possibly know how difficult parenthood is, but there's no possible way that there are only difficulties in motherhood. It feels so much like we're not supposed to even want to be parents. It's sad. Motherhood doesn't need to be idolized, of course, but it feels like in our society's attempt to not idolize it is actually just to villainize it. Her positivity is uplifting to hear!

I've done a lot with knitting (and crochet). I've done a charity project at a church with the help of one of the members. The project was called "Knit a Square" where you knit/crochet an 8in x 8in square with long ends. They would would be shipped to South Africa to be fastened together and make afghans. I was still learning to knit things (age 8/9) and had the chance to not only do something relaxing and fun, but also help a bunch of people at the same time! It showed me that there are so many ways to help and bring people joy with knitting.

Knitting has brought such joy to my life for the past 20+ years, and I truly don't know what I'd do without it. I find that having a creative hobby is SO good for my mental health - making things makes me feel good! It's also such a good way to connect with other people and helps me reduce the impact my wardrobe has on the planet. There's much more I could say but those are my top three!

Hello,I learned to knit as a teen. My sister taught me the continental way. I’m 66 now and have been fighting cancer for 5 years. Knitting helps me to be more calm especially when I have a bad time. I have pictures of me knitting lace while hooked up to machines! Such a wonderful skill to have. Also I absolutely love being a mother. Hearing your positive views lifts my heart.

This video is SO refreshing! I'm a young woman who has dreamed of being a mother and has felt that pressure to "keep your youth" like you mentioned. It was so nice to hear another young woman promoting motherhood as a joy rather than a burden!
One of things I love about knitting is that it introduces me to people like you. Though I haven't ever met you before, I feel like I know you and that we're friends. Knitting not only weaves beautiful garments, but it also weaves beautiful bonds among us. Have a blessed day!

Knitting for me is such a journey and I learn everyday new things about knitting and myself.
    1) How to be patient
    2) Trying to not be too frustrated
    3) How can I fix my mistakes
    4) Enjoying the process of making something by hand
    5) TRYING to finish on going projects
Well I started knitting at 8, I was so bad so I decided to not knit anymore and I started again at 20. I just fell in love with knitting and it’s part of my life now 😊

I learned how to knit when I was a child, there was a fad at primary school where everyone brought their knitting to school at one point. At that time I only ever learned how to knit scarves and beanies. As life went on, I never found myself having time to craft amongst the competing responsibilities. But since being on maternity leave in September last year I started and finished my first crochet project and have since transitioned to knitting projects. My baby loves a good contact nap, so ive been using that time to work on my projects and appreciating the slow craft at a time when there has been so much change in my life. Congrats on 100k, absolutely love your content x

I have been knitting since I was small, my grandmother taught me. Recently, due to spikes in my anxiety, I have taken it back up as a way to self soothe and calm myself. I find making gifts for others (and myself 😂) is the best way to heal my mental health. ❤

For me knitting is not only a wonderful hobby, but has a very practical aspect as well. Living in the north of Europe, knitting has taught me to love and appreciate the long cold winters because it allows me to make proper wool garments that will actually keep me warm all winter. I used to hate winter and freeze all the time, but now I find it refreshing and nice, and I'm really thankful for all my knitted things for making that possible.

Knitting has been helping me fight feelings of professional burnout. I feel like my anxiety and running thoughts slow down a bit when I focus on a project. I've been knitting for two months, and finding the knitting community who is so kind and supportive, here on TH-cam, has been just wonderful. I still go back to your video on stretchy bind off (for the sweater you are wearing in this video), because I always forget how to do this technique ;) Would love to try working with the Lykke needles (I discovered metal needles are not my thing), if given the chance. Knitting (and sewing) have provided a feeling of autonomy and freedom of self expression for me. I’ve never been good at other types of art like painting or drawing but when I think of something I want to adorn my body or house with, I can generally see or knit it either with a pattern or just freehand. It makes me feel powerful and resourceful and has always been a reminder that I am creative and capable. I also love being surrounded by things that I’ve made as symbols/reminders of all those sentiments.

I was taught to knit by my Aunt when I was in 4th grade, but between now and then, it was an "on and off again" hobby. However, in my senior year of high school, I picked it up again, and hopefully, I'll continue it when I'm old. But I remember a memory during that "on and off again" period. While visiting a family member in the hospital, I was knitting in the waiting room with my sister when a man approached me and said, "I find it enjoyable to see young people knitting. My late mother used to knit afghans,, and you two knitting just reminded me of her." I didn't say anything to him, and I wished I did, but I didn't know the right words. However, that moment really impacted me. It made me want to keep the hobby of knitting alive.

Knitting/crochet have majorly helped my mental health. I grew up in an abusive household and went on antidepressants at age 11. I went back and forth between different psychologists, councillors, therapists and they all either gave up on me or thought I was too much for them to handle. I found this hobby 3 years ago and whilst I still have tough days or even weeks... It's so so so peaceful and soothing to sit and knit when I'm anxious, stressed or scared. Knitting forces me to stop fidgeting, picking, scratching and from overthinking as it allows me to concentrate my mind and hands on something else. Knitting might have even saved my life

Knitting has such a deep meaning for me. My mom taught me how to knit when i was little cause i always got mesmerized by watching her do it and kept asking her to. After hitting my teen years i left it aside for other hobbies, but she still did it and always made me things like hats and scarfs for winter, or tops for the summer. When i was 19 she passed aways after several years battling cancer, which led to me getting all of her yarns and needles and unfinished projects and thus started reconnecting with this beautiful handcraft, and also with her in her absence and my childhood memories. 🥺🖤

Knitting has changed my perspective on clothing so drastically. I was never a trend follower or a big fast fashion consumer but I also never cared too much about the materials our clothes are made of. Now I'm more aware about different fibers and how they can be beneficial in different types of clothing. I have been knitting for a shorter period of time, but it has impacted my life on a daily basis. I've learned to be more conscious about the way I consume clothing, knowing that making a piece my self will avoid the exploitation of others, and choosing natural fibres the further pollution of the environment. On a more personal note, it helps me to disconnect and relax after a long day and by using the needles and notions of my aunt, I feel more connected to her. That's the beauty of this hobby, not only being connected to worldwide community through the internet, but to the generations before us through tradition and wisdom.

I LOVED this video and your recent chats about motherhood, especially when you spoke about positivity and how it's not championed enough throughout motherhood. I'm somebody who naturally reverts to negative thinking and I have to try very hard to stop my mind in going into a downward spiral of negativity. Your aura is so inspiring and has really helped me in changing my perspective. I'm pregnant with baby no.2 and I'm incredibly nervous. Knitting is something I've done for 15 years + and I've dipped in and out of it and recently I've not picked up the needles for the last few months which makes me so sad. Rewatching your old videos is sparking my love of knitting again and I'm trying to become more positive about the changes I will experience with being a family of 4 hopefully! So as a result I have dusted off my needles and starting knitting something for baby boy to re-energise me and kick start my love of knitting again. Thank you for your incredibly valuable presence, you are doing so much more than you know.
    Lots of love,
    Nazima from England❤

When I was 9 my Granny taught me how to knit for the first time and we would spend weekends together knitting daffodils for the Marie Curie charity, however, I stopped knitting for a while until a few years ago when I also picked up crochet and felting alongside it. Restarting this hobby has brought me even closer to my Granny and has also allowed me to make so many friends who share the same hobby as me. Furthermore, as a university student, knitting has aided me with maintaining a clear headspace and ensuring I also have a positive outlook in life - whether that be the sustainability of clothes or just making sure I value my own company.

I started knitting at 5 years old and I learned from my neighbor. Throughout my childhood, I didn't connect well with other kids my age but I always knew I could go to her. Ever since then and to this day she is my favorite person and I know that she will always be there for me. Because of this I have always associated knitting with her and my love for her.

What I love about knitting is that I can make gifts for my loved ones. They really appreciate the time and effort I put into making each piece and it makes me so happy to see them wearing them :) I also love wearing things I made, it makes me really proud that I was able to create something that actually looks nice. And lastly, I love that I can wear garments made from high-quality yarn and I can choose what type of material I want to use (do I want a 100% wool sweater or maybe a mix of wool and cotton for warmer days).

i can honestly say knitting saved my life. just over 4 years ago my mental health took a serious dive, i couldn't work couldn't leave the house, couldn't even really get myself out of bed for like a solid year. but i could knit. i had already been knitting for a few years but on and off. but this was when i started knitting seriously and it really was the only thing keeping me going for a while. i'm doing a lot better now in terms of mental health, but still knitting all the time! this hobby has truly changed my life

I started knitting during the pandemic. I used to live in 39 sqm with my partner, both working from home and even though we didn't really have a lockdown as so many other countries we still had to stay at home whenever we could. I was going insane at home and found this hobby. It reminded me of my grandmother (learned to knit from her when I was little). My grandmother lived in a different country and struggled a lot during the pandemic, so I knit her some clothes and slippers to keep her warm. She's now passed away, but I'm so glad I had the time to at least give her something handmade. To this day, not only do I knit, but I also crochet, sew and work with clay. I have a whole room for my hobby and I could never imagine being without it.

I learned to knit when my oldest was a baby (12 years ago). I was a very young mom too (22 years old). I have 5 kids now and wouldn’t change it for the world. Knitting gives me relaxation and a way to bond with my kids. I love making them things and feel a huge burst of love every time they choose to wear one of those knits.

I re-learnt to knit after having my first baby as I was so overwhelmed by the beautiful hand knit gifts from family and friends and I want my children to have the same if they choose to have kids. Now I can’t go a day without knitting and have a fantastic group of crafting friends to share projects with. Love your videos!

I love knitting because it keeps me grounded. I deal with anxiety and sometimes sitting still and letting my brain wonder is not good lol so knitting is something that has helped keep my hands and my mind busy so I dont end up overthinking. PLUS there is something super satisfying about creating your own clothes. I also love making small things for loved ones. Its my favourite gift to give and usually people love them.

After many years of not knitting, my best friend recently got me back into the art of fibre crafts! Previously, knitting used to just be an activity I did in front of the TV to keep my hands busy and stop my mind from wandering too far, but nowadays, knitting and crocheting have been a source of comfort for me and have really helped me destress when I've been feeling too overwhelmed by everything happening around me. It is also the longest hobby I've managed to keep up with in recent years and gives me joy that I hadn't been able to find in my hobbies for a very very long time.

I learned to knit when I was little but started in earnest just a year ago and it took my life by storm. I really like the way it's taught me to be happy and content with slowness, both in knitting and with my time in general! I sometimes feel like I'm not using my downtime well enough (which is ridiculous!), but knitting feels somehow slow AND productive and is really calming in that way.
Thanks for another lovely video, Bethany!

I've only recently picked up knitting again - and having discovered the online community of knitters has really added another level of enjoyment. I don't have any friends that knit either - so it's just a delight to be able to sit down and knit with everyone online and be inspired by all the wonderful creative projects happening. My knitting is my 'me' time and now my boys are in their late teens -there is more 'me' time which is a treat!

I learn to knit as a hobby. My first project was a scarf which I later gave my grandma. She loved it and bragged about it to everyone in the family. It always made me so happy when she left the house wearing it. Knitting is a way to bring joy in someone life. I learned to crochet to finished the baby blanket my other grandma was working on before she died. I couldn’t figure out the pattern before the baby was born so I knitted a blanket and just sewed on the crochet pieces. It made the blanket extra special since it was made by my grandma and I for the first grandchild on that side of the family. Having the skilled for both crafts has open new opportunities to bring joy. I made a blanket and a beanie for my cousin that just had his first child. He and the baby mom were so overjoyed for a heartwarming gift. He was so excited when the baby born that he grab the beanie and blanket before heading to the hospital. Knitting and crochet has help me with my anxiety. I have learned that it’s okay to mess up and just start over. It’s okay if the end product doesn’t come out perfect. I’m glad that I took the time to learn these skills and being able to bring joy with anything I make. One day I will go back to learn the pattern for the baby blanket and finish it for my grandma with the left over pieces I still have but for now I will continue to learn new terms and stitches until I feel like the grief isn’t overwhelming anymore.

I moved over 1000 miles away from my family. I picked up knitting a few months ago because I needed something to do with my life that was more than working, eating and sleeping. I’ve had so much fun learning new things and making things with my own hands. I convinced my mom to pick up crochet again and now we have been crafting together over face time. It’s really brought us together even though we are on opposite parts of the country.

I’ve only been knitting for a year and a half but it has changed my life in so many ways - making my own garments has affected my view on fashion and made me really appreciate and want to get involved in the slow fashion movement, and it has inspired me so much to create and design my own garments. It feels like a creative outlet that’s so so important in this fast paced world that is so focused on productivity and efficiency. It has also been so calming and beneficial for my mental health, and opened doors to an incredible community that is so open and generous. I could go on and on… it’s my favourite thing I’ve ever done! 🥰

I would say that this hobby has really made me love my clothes. Before, they were just things I owned--y'know? I paid no attention to the material they were made with or even the weave of the fabric. Now I love noticing if it's a knitted fabric or a woven fabric, I love knowing what my clothes are made of. I take pride in my things now! And knitting has become my go-to meditative hobby.❤ Need to slow down my brain after work? Time to knit! Need to be a potato all day but still want to feel productive? Time to knit! I just love the way it's slowed me down and taught me to be intentional. 😊

After i had all my children I wasn’t blessed to have enjoyed that period of newborn life, i suffered from postpartum depression, i was lucky to live in a beautiful little town in the South Island of New Zealand where there was the most beautiful quilting and yarn shop. I picked up my needles during this time and i can honestly say that knitting helped me through. My children are now 11,9,7 years and its my favourite time in their lives and I’m still knitting.

This hobby has allowed me to find something just for me-I use this as a way to wind down, relax, and just take some time to slow down and be with my own thoughts! Since college I haven’t really had something I do just for me, and simply because I enjoy it. Finding knitting and crochet has allowed me to get into something in a way I haven’t done since I was young! Additionally, finding the community online which connects to this hobby has really helped me to feel connected to others around the world. It’s so nice to have found something I enjoy that isn’t career or work based. Thank you for fostering this community for all of us!

I taught myself knitting years ago when my husband was stationed on the other side of the country and later was deployed. Knitting and teaching myself using a pamphlet kept me busy and happy. My kids love my hand knits and crochet. I feel love while I knit and while watching my loved ones wearing or using my things. It fills a creative and usefulness need in myself. Kids are wonderful, I wanted mine but we did wait until we lived together. I love every part of motherhood (though I would of loved a little more sleep), now I’m in the teen and college age part of motherhood. Knitting and crocheting did slow down a lot during the early years.

I started knitting relatively involuntarily. My fiancé had seen something knitted, which he liked so much, but we did not have the money for it. To give it to him for Christmas I bought cheap wool and knitting needles and learned to knit for him. I enjoyed it so much that I couldn't stop. Since then I knit for
