I had my tonsils removed in April and just wanted to come back and say thank you so much for making this video! I remember laying in bed, totally miserable, and your sense of humor REALLY helped me get through it. To everyone going through it now: you got this!
@@Leanntelope Hi Leanne - thank you very much for your video and the beatiful sense of humor you mixed into it! :) May I ask you what the main reasons were that you decided to remove your tonsils? And when/ why did the problems start? Thank you very much! :)
I’m going through it right now I’m day five post operation and I’m a fourteen year old girl so I’m in pain it really really stings when I don’t have my mouth moist or shut and it really hurts to talk so yea hopes this helps

What I found helpful during my recovery, hope this helps too! 👍🏽 1. Drink plenty of water, especially in the early hours of the morning even if you have to set an alarm for every 20 mins or so. If you don’t it’s more painful when you wake up in the morning having not drank any water. during the night and very early hours of the morning. I would recommend bottled water as this is less harsh on your throat, add plenty of ice 👍🏽 2. Watermelon 🍉 stock up on watermelon in the fridge and eat that when you wake up it’s very soothing on the throat. 3. Coconut water 4. Ice pack that you can tie/wrap around your head so that you don’t have to hold it, eBay and Amazon do these sort of ice packs 5. Eating regularly as possible 6. Keeping up with medication 7. Aloe vera juice 8. Plenty of rest 9. Watch other TH-cam videos to of people who have have documented there journey this will help you not feel alone and give you some more tips to help you recover better All the best, you will recover and this will pass, you will get through this ❤
I'm on day 5/6 at the moment and honestly haven't slept more than 3hours at a time, this vid says she's slept 11hours straight lol. No. I'm afraid to close my eyes and not sip water I might die
@@cherisepieters5364 aww really hope you feel better soon. Yes drink plenty of water preferably bottled water as it’s easier on the throat and if you have some honey that will keep your throat from drying out. Keep ice packs around your throat at all times it really helps 💯

Your partner is correct. I just got an ent to finally agree to take mine out and I’m a little nervous about the process. So thankful for people on TH-cam vlogging it so I can see what to expect!
I'm on day 4 and here's what really helped me so far: Ice packs (any) Spit bucket (I just spit in napkins / tissue) Popsicles (ice cream taste good but it makes my spit extra thick) Sleep Smoothies (pretty thin) Jello(just kinda slides down your throat and it's cold) Pudding Ice water Gatorade Tips I have that helped me: 1# If you have soup make it lukewarm you DO NOT want warm hot soup it will hurt #2 If your hungry eat nice things that will suit your throat, but whatever food You can eat try to it will make you feel better #3 Eat after you take your medicine it will not hurt to swallow and you will feel pretty good (don't waste your energy even if you feel good, I used my time to take a shower and change into comfy clothes and eat some) #4 if your swelling i recommend ice packs it will decrease the swelling. #5 if you want to have the baby food go for it, I don't think I could based on what I feed my brother and but also puréed is also good (it's baby food) I also got my adenoids out I noticed no pain and only my throat hurt. I feel very lucky I've never had a tonsil stone. I got my tonsils out because they were ver very very oversized as well as my adenoids my adenoids and tonsils were 3-4x the size as they should be, already noticing my breathing is significantly better. Let me know if you want anymore tips or anything I'll put day by day up dates if anyone noticed this comment
This is the most rational and thought out comment here. Hopefully someone will pin it to the top. I’m on day 3 of recovery and you’re spot on. Except I don’t have a spit bucket. Not sure what do with accumulation I feel in back or throat/nasal passages
@@smw4900 Thank you, I was counting wrong today is actually day 4 for me. So what I do that helps me, obviously it hurts to use your throat so what I do is I eat 2 popsicles and numb the throat then just use your tongue to get all that gross yucky spit and the worst part the disgusting scab and just spit it all out it's gross I know but it helps so much. Also i big problem I'm dealing with is the awful taste of the scab it's coming up in small pieces and I wish I had a solution for that, but I do not. If you have any questions let me know because im trying lots of things.
@@saxophoneloverforlife I’m just trying to not vomit. That’s really how I feel. This sucks. I want to eat lay’s potato chips for some reason🤦🏽♀️. Today is day 4 for me as well. I’m just taking my pain meds and resting. I don’t seem to really have anything going on other than pain. Got some mucus out when I brushed my teeth this morning. That’s about it
@@smw4900 Honestly same, I swore to myself I would not be vomiting. Finally had enough energy to go to the store ( I was not driving lol and I almost got my permit) and looked in the medicine and saw they had chewable pills and the liquid has not been working for me (never has) I gagged so hard but I didn't let the throw up come out. My throat is still in so much pain from that. My medicine i take in 45 minutes and I'm nervous but excited to see if the chewable ones will work better. I had some pumpkin bread that was good on my throat and my stomach, I know this probably won't go well but I'm trying shrimp I think I'm moving to fast so I might wait. Lol I'm really hoping the medicine works out for me. Edit: also yeah very little pain except for when I fell asleep and I wasn't woken up for my medicine my throat hurt so bad.
I’m going into day 5 and I just giggled my head off with the speech to text! 🤣 Thank you everyone! I feel like most of us went into this severely underestimating the procedure. So I appreciate all of the tips and great sense of humour 😊
@@nicoleputzier7454 I’ve ended up back in hospital on day 7. Scabs fell off on day 6 so I had some bleeding. But the pain was so bad last night, I barely ate anything in fear it would cause more bleeding. Best decision I made to get my parents to take me into hospital. Nurses gave me an IV and were able to monitor and reduce the bleeding. And they also me more medicine which helped reduce the pain (which has been a solid 10/10 since the surgery). Sending all my love to you! Make sure you reach out to friends for movie / tv show / podcast / TH-cam recommendations ! It was nice feeling connected to them while I was in pain!
Yes! Possibly even worse for because you are not on the same pain medication that you are when you come out of surgery. @@filipbrcko It is challenging because you start to get more confident eating food and swallowing but that inevitably will take the scabs off and then it's back to square 1.
I’m having my tonsils out in 3 days and it’s my first ever surgery. I’m scared of anestesia, I don’t know what it’s like. And I just pray my recovery is quick and good
I’m having my tonsillectomy tomorrow morning and this was SO helpful! I’m terrified of the road ahead of me, but thank you for injecting a bit of humor into your video!!!!
@@ladyaki7069 They gave me a codine syrup. But it ran out too fast from my appointment to see the doctor next. One bottle was supposed to last me over a week and a half till I saw the doctor again. But I was supposed to take it every six hours. That just didn’t add up. Glad it’s over now.
So, this was definitely the most entertaining tonsillectomy video I have watched lol..kinda glad I watched it before surgery because you had me laughing! 😂 You are awesome, the video is awesome..thank you for this because I really needed it. I'm getting mine out in 3 days..wish me luck!
I got my surgery done yesterday. I didn't feel any pain, could sip on some cold tea. Today i feel a bit more pain but its managable. I think the hardest is yet to come

I started watching your videos yesterday for the IBS info and wanted to say that I hope you recover all right and that your partner sounds like a great person! My boyfriend has dealt with tonsil stones since high school and he plans on getting his tonsils out next year (He is 30). It is an expensive surgery here in the United States so he was waiting until he got better insurance through work. I hate hearing him scraping his throat and spitting blood multiple times a week. I didn’t even know about tonsil stones until I met him so I am so relieved you were a candidate for surgery so you do not have to suffer anymore!
Thanks for the kind words! It sounds like your boyfriend's got it pretty rough. I hope he can get the surgery soon - it's not fun, but a few days of pain is worth YEARS of being pain-free afterwards. Thanks for watching the IBS content, I plan to have more videos out in the new year! Take care!
Here to share my whole experience as a teenager getting a tonsillectomy. I definitely got the better end of things, with not awful pain really ever. Day 1 (day of surgery): I honestly don’t remember much from this day, except that I was just exhausted the whole day after surgery. I don’t remember my pain being to terrible. Days 2-5: These were really only the rough days of recovery, and it wasn’t even really because of the pain. I just felt quite sick these couple days, I had a fever, and I just felt pretty bad because I had barely eaten anything. Although my pain was not awful and very manageable, it did still hurt to swallow quite a bit. Although, I did eat a burger patty on day 4 and a peice of pizza on day 5. Days 6-7: The worst days for pain, but this is when I finally started feeling much better. These days were when the pain medication started wearing off faster, so there was a longer time where it was more painful. This was expected though, because these were the days the scabs were coming off. Which I could actually feel, and every once in a while, it would be a really sharp pain in my throat for a couple seconds. I just took a drink of water and it immediately went away. Days 8-13: I pretty much woke up on day 8 and felt basically normal. My throat was still sore, but I stopped taking medicines around the clock and just took ibouprofen on the morning which helped for the whole day. From then on my pain just started getting less and less each day and I was pretty much able to eat any food starting day 8. It general, the pain was not as bad as I expected, the worst parts for me was the feeling sick the first few days and the only being able to eat soft foods for a little while. (I surprisingly got sick of ice cream) TIPS: -stay 👏 on 👏 top 👏 of 👏 your 👏 medicine!!!! It literally worked miracles for me, and almost instantly. Take the medicine as prescribed by the doctor around the clock, including at night, because as soon as you fall behind it is very hard to get back on top of the pain. -drink water. Water is important to heal the wounds by keeping them moist, so even if it hurts it’s important to get liquids. -ice packs! An ice pack on my throat helped a lot, especially right before you eat because it will make it sort of numb -eat real food as soon as possible. Even if it takes four hours. Cut the food into tiny little bites and chew really well, then swallow with water. As soon as you can eat real food, you will feel much better! -other things that helped was a humidifier for night time, and sleeping!! In general, it was not the most horrible experience as long as you do the right things to take care of yourself. The time actually went by super fast for me, and it was definitely worth it because I already am noticing improvement! You got this guys stay strong you will get through it!!

I’m on day 8 and I’ve already lost 13 pounds. I had to get an iv on day 6 bc I was so dehydrated. The ear pain takes the pain to an entirely new level, hell on earth! Praying I can start eating soon. Even popsicles burn my throat. All I can do is drink room temp water.
Well at this point, why didn't your doc get you oxycodon or maybe even Morphium, that's realy irresponsible by your doc to just leave you in this much pain
I totally relate to this, I’m on day 6 and the pain is so intense- it probably too a turn for extreme on day 2/3 for me and has remained. On that day (3) I asked my doc for oxy because the T3 they gave me honestly did nothing. I was taking 2 every 4 hours and it was still too horrible to even swallow water. Now when I take the oxy for about 2-3 hrs in a day it feels less painful enough to try and eat something easy. It has also been bad nausea for me since I am taking pain meds on basically an empty stomach. That’s the other issue! But overall I highly suggest that people ask for pain meds that work for them, it’s short term and it’s needed. Don’t be afraid to take medication when it’s needed. ❤️
Yea everyone is definitely different because I’m in terrible pain & im on day 8. Called my doc & they said recovery is gonna get better after day 14 but this is definitely the worst sore throat of my life.
How long till you felt like your throat wasn’t too swollen to eat things other than yogurt. Dairy is a struggle for me with feeling like it’s clogging my throat. Day 11/14
@@jas6887 ohhh nooo babe dairy is one of the worst things to have during this process. It creates mucus in your body hence your throat feeling clogged. I had it 1 day during recovery & it was legit the worst day I had. I didn’t have it again until the end of July & my surgery date was June 6th. Don’t do that to yourself again boo!🥺 I ate mostly applesauce & berries blended with ice, smoothies after day 14 but I used non dairy yogurt in them. Even then I still sipped superrr slow because it was hard to manage the pain. The pain pills they gave me were not helpful at all so I stopped using them along with the nausea meds. I started on plain mashed potatoes w/ plant butter & unsweetened oat milk around day 20 & even then I took very tiny bites. I hope it gets better for you babes‼️🤎
@@sanelaali8100 hmm no pain? I’ll say bearable pain Day 25/26 idk if I’m 1 in a million or something but that 14 day thing was not reality for me lol every vid I watched they were recovering fast or by the end of the 14 days…NOT ME! I did have about 6 months of random stabbing pain at least 2-3x a day & my doc said it happens to some people as a side effect but it shouldn’t last more than a year. So I’m glad it was gone after 6 months. Hope this helps‼️🤎
@@jas6887 Hi Jes, I’m still eating soft food and it’s my 12ty day, I can swallow better it’s less painful. I have less pain overall however it’s still a struggle. Good my dear all the best💖
I am on day 4 of recovery. I had the surgery on Wednesday 15/6. It was my first time ever with general anaesthesia. It’s quite easy like you fall as a deep sleep without you even knowing. So I didn’t have any pain meds until Thursday lunchtime , the pain was reasonably. I could still have a white bread sandwich ham and cheese on day one and 2. Day 3 and today was quite painful. I took like 4 times of Nurofen for yesterday and today. This morning I woke up at 5am cos the pain woke me up. I am using ice bag for the back and front of my neck, my jaws. Constantly, having ice cube and drinking cold water, I find it helps with the pain. Today, day 4 Starts to see those scabs is coming off for a bit. Hopefully, the recovery is going well for everyone. Thank you for sharing your experiences!

Got my tonsils out 5 days ago and let’s say I’m happy to see I’m not alone, it’s so indescribable the pain and the agitation. Thanks for your humour which helped 🥹
I’m say 9 post surgery. I had all the symptoms under the sun. I’m still in pain , especially when I wake. Not 24/7 like days2-7. My jaw, gums, tongue head and ears are so painful 😓. Painkillers only give two hour relief. Im just hoping all improves soon 😢
On my fifth day at this moment. My doctor has instructed me to visit the ER room every morning and take a mixture of IVs from painkillers, anti bleeding, vitamins, and what not. Thank god he did this, as I couldn’t imagine dealing with the pain on my own, with a set of painkillers and home remedies. It’s been absolute hell. Try to set up alarms throughout the night to stay hydrated or else you’re gonna be woken up in the middle of the night with the worst pain possible. Stay strong everybody.

I’m on day 7, day 1 being the day of the surgery. I’m still in a fair amount of pain but my main struggle right now is my gag reflex to the scab and the saliva.
I'm getting higher up on the waitlist for my surgery and found your video. I have to wait 6 weeks because I caught bronchitis recently. I've been waiting 25 yrs to get this done and finally have a willing doctor that's not beating around the bush. TY for your vid. I downloaded a text to speech app bc I have three kids and will not want to talk to them. lol Also, keep an empty glass beside you for a spittoon and a napkin or cloth for wiping. Just don't confuse it with your other drink glass. Whenever I get sick, spitting out any mucus helped. Looks disgusting carrying a glass of spit with colored globs, but you can get a ceramic mug with a lid to hide it. It's easy late at night to just spit into a cup instead of the hassle of aiming for tissues in the black of night. I will have my spittoon and my tray table handy for this surgery. I had horrible gerd reflux when pregnant, so I'm hoping not to get that with eating less . I don't want it adding to the nausea. I just noticed in the US they have omeprazole on amazon. I'm going to the US soon and stocking up. Omeprazole was the best thing to work for my gerd asides from zantac before it got pulled off the shelves. Omeprazole is by prescription only in Canada now. There is a disolvable omeprazole on amazon. I didn't see the results listed, but there are studies to see if an antiacid can help reduce tonsilectomy pain, omeprazole was used in one of the studies. Omeprazole isn't an antiacid though but does a similar job to treat reflux. I might take a 14 day round of Omeprazole before the surgery and ask if it's ok to take in recovery as well. Or ask if a regular antiacid is ok after surgery. Just a tidbit for others to ponder over and ask especially if they suffer from reflux and heartburn. I also plan to take otc Colace and Modere liquid collagen which will help with being regular. I'm ready for the surgery, but not the recovery. Thanks for your video for some confidence and cheer.
Im on my 7th day now, 5th and 6th days are the worst! I wonder why? The first thing i do every morning from day 2 is to feel and compare the pain from previous day and i was so shocked on 5th and 6th. I thought i ate or did something wrong. Thanks for sharing your story.❤
Leanne I hope you're doing well! I thought I lost your channwl. It keeps changing, but I understand its not your fault😁. Keep being amazing and I'll keep looking for you!
I’m only on day 4 of my recovery & I will say day 3 was the ABSOLUTE WORST pain I’ve ever experienced. Incredibly weak, feels like I’m swallowing straight up glass, & I vomited three times (which I didn’t even know was possible) 😂. This video was awesome & made me feel better… but reading other comments with people saying days 5 & 6 are the worst is scaring me… I don’t even know how it could get worse from my day 3 experience. Wake me up when I’m healed & don’t feel pain anymore!!!
This video was super duper helpful. I had my tonsils and adenoids out a 1 1/2 days ago and I just have a bit of a sore throat but my uvula and tongue are so swollen I can barely talk or swallow. I am drinking tons of water and Gatorade and don't really need any pain meds. However, I am bracing for the worst in a few days. I have lots of ice packs and bags of frozen veg if I need cold packs. I am not taking onions so I shouldn't need laxatives but that info was really helpful as a warning. All in all, thank you so much for walking us through your journey!!!
Also, for context, I am 47 and everyone says that the pain and recovery is worse as you are older. One of my nurses did say that part of this is adults focus more on the pain and create anxiety, while kids tend to play through it and just enjoy the Popsicles:)
This was really helpful. I'm on day 2.5 and this sucks. I'm so bored and sore and all I can eat is lukewarm soup. Really nice to watch other people know the same pain so I do not feel alone edit/update: It is day 6.5 and things got much much worse. Day 4 was the absolute worst, and day 5 was only slightly better. Tons of crying, little to no eating, popsicles, and pudding. I hope things start to get better, since I've had my first scab fall off.
@@katiealbright425 Today was rough. Had a coughing fit which really hurt (choked on water) and throat has been extra sore from it. Ice water and pudding have been helping the most. Tomorrow I am getting a facial ice pack for my jaw and temples, as I noticed ice helps the pain there. Did not eat for the rest of the day, I was not hungry at all. My advice is to sleep as much as possible and drink as much as possible. I feel better than the average person because I'm drinking at least 32 fluid ounces every day. Lots of going to the bathroom, but worth it. Sleeping also is nice, though I'd wake up every 1-2 hours to drink water in order to stay hydrated, as I've developed a habit of snoring recently due to surgery.
@@oliviarae7056 Aww I hope things get better for you! It is day 6 for me and yesterday was one of the most awful experiences of my life. Today was better, still horrible though. Couldn't make it on tylenol alone unfortunately, so I got a new prescription of the hard stuff.
I had my tonsils removed from May 25.. and after that I felt a lot of pain as I couldn't open my jaw while eating or brush my teeth. As it was uncomfortable for every person who is suffering after tonsil surgery.. but after seeing your video I got some humour and felt comfortable.. Now I'm gargling through hydrogen peroxide which is the best one to remove the stitches by using coblation.. Thanks a lot ❤
I had my tonsils removed this past Friday, and today is the 6th day for me. It feels like the scabs are starting to come off but my tongue is numb on one side from the instruments they used. The ear and jaw pain is horrendous for me and sleeping with ice packs has helped a lot. But lately my tongue has been spasming a lot even though its numb. My ENT put me on Oxycodon to help with the pain but it only helps a little bit.
Did research on this prior to my tonsillectomy, I found your video to be the most informative thank you. Currently on day 6 and so far everything has been the same as you. The exhale thing you mentioned is stronger for me, when I lay flat on my back or when I try to blow my nose or laugh, my nose completely closes off airflow. So like a 1 way valve, I can breathe in, but not out. It's just my nose though, I can still breathe out my mouth. But hopefully that goes away soon. The knives going through your ears to your neck is spot on... Hoping that I can look forward to that day 8 relief. Was actually about to run out of my narc med today but the dr refilled the prescription for me. So nearly there, just have to press on a little further.
I'm on day 6 of my recovery. So far it has been pretty standard. I didn't have any fevers day 1 or 2. Day 3 was the worst with pain. Sleeping has been hard. But, what I am currently hating is this cough. I keep doing this tickle down my throat...I am so scare of bleeding because of this cough but apparently it's the scabs coming off. Anyone else had this issue?
I am in day 4 of recovery, I think you could use some ice bags to put on the back of your neck and front. Hope it helps, I called my doctor this morning and that is what they suggested me, as I had a but of fresh blood coming out. After doing so for like 30mins, it started to feel better with pain and itchiness. Hope the recovery is going well for everyone.

@@Mikmik261currently just got over my surgery. No more stones due to not having tonsils. Bad breath during surgery is likely due to the scabs. It is extremely painful. I am going through it right now.on day 9 and have only eaten 2 days. Day 3 and 4 the worst. On day 6 mine hemorrhaged. Er visit and passed out, bled for 2 hours. I literally almost died. If I could turn back time I would not do it.
I was in tonsilactomy recovery 5monthes ago tbh It was very hard and painful week for me but after day 7 the pain will ease eventually anyone who are going through this you got this it’s very worth it
I’m on day 10 now. Probably the best I’ve felt yet but still struggling to eat or drink anything sugary. Even cold items hurt me days 4-current. It’s so weird. I’ve lost 10 lbs in 10 days. Wish I would have seen this video prior to my surgery. It’s good to see someone else had a problem with sugary items. I can’t eat popsicles, chocolate pudding, applesauce, etc. nor can I drink anything but plain water (and that even hurts) vanilla pudding, jello and ramen noodle cups is the only thing I could get down.
I’m on day two of pre op from the removal of my tonsils and I was prescribed liquid hydrocodone for the pain and I don’t think I could do it without this medication lol
Just got my tonsils out today and was really nervous. The nurse called me and put the Iv in my hand.Instantly my head started hurting and my arm was freezing from the liquids inside of it. Once that was in for 10 minutes they took me to the procedure room and then they put a mask on me and told me to take deep breaths and then they said my arm would burn on the side the lv was in and it ended up burning and then next thing you know it I wake up 1 hour later and it didn’t hurt
I m at day 7. I m doin pretty well so far, my worst days were day 4 and 5. Can’t describe how bad that was…But i ve been drinking so much water since i had surgery . Day 4 and 5 were that painful with ear pain, i thought i had a infection in my ear. But That was not a case. Just scabs were coming off. Drinking a water and eating well even it is painful, very useful. As long as ur body feels strong you will be good I guess. Btw protien shakes are the best
@@abbyparker1749 it was alright! Quite painful around day 5. Ended up going to the ER and spending the night in hospital because I started bleeding a lot. They gave me some antibiotics and I was good to go! Definitely worth it
I’m on day 8 of recovery and it’s almost the worst day but I’d say everyday is bad. There’s no such thing as a good day after u get your tonsils out. I will say I was on the verge of either tonsillitis or strep when I went in for surgery so I’m glad I didn’t have to be put on antibiotics and sick. Instead I’m recovering for two weeks or a lil more then I’m done forever and it’ll be worth it. Something for advice I’d give you for headaches is I heard that sodium actually helps your Dura which is the muscle around ur brain. Most of the time headaches are a cause of clinical deficiency in sodium:)

Yes unfortunately. Its the rawnes of your throat in combo with the scabing. Your breath will stink and your mouth is going to taste purely disgusting 🥲
I got my tonsils removed last week, I can agree that the 5th day is literally the worst! I was in so much pain that it spread to my ears and jaw.. so everytime I wanted to open my mouth.. I couldn't because of the pain I'm now on day 9 and the pain is much more bearable! It gets worse before getting better sadly
Thank you for sharing your journey with us, I'm going through day 5 and I am mentally and physically exhausted and painfull . You are right keeping it moist with little sips of water. I can't wait to be my normal self again🤦❤️
Hi Leanne I'm on the day34 And my voice has changed and become delicate and weak and it is difficult for me to raise my voice Will it return to normal or will it stay that way? I'm very sad plaese help me
GUYS. I’m on day 7 right now. I’m in the ER because I’m in so much pain, this is by far my worst day yet. Previous days are nothing compared to this. My ears ache, I can hardly swallow, and I’m so unbelievably tired. Getting an IV pumped into me currently and a super strong Tylenol (can’t remember the name of medication). I’ve been taking oxy, Motrin/Tylenol, steroids, and an antibiotic this whole recovery. Hoping I’ll be better by this weekend, as it’s my best friends birthday and I offered to throw a party for her, before the pain got this bad. I do not wish day 6-7 pain on my worst enemy. This is terrible.
Im on day 5 right now and honestly haven't had the pain i was expecting. I have had a little bit probably a 2 or 3 out of 10 for the first few days and some ear pain but it has been more discomfort then pain to be honest. I have been making sure im drinking 3l of water plus a day. I have been eating soft food like mash potatos and pasta and what not. I think everyone is different and will experience it differently but if you are getting them out don't be scared, it is worth it in the long run. Im more just missing normal food to be honest 😅
@@coolpumpkins453 had tonsilities at the start of the year which was the worse i ever had that i could remember and my tonsils never really went back down. Post surgery was nothing even close to what i had at the start of the year. Only pain i had was probably day 11 to now which is my throat is sore when i swallow on one side but my surgeon said my tonsils were enermous on the report. Also i spat up a few mouth fulls of blood on one of the nights as i did a lot of walking during the day and singing at night and i think a bit of scab came off that wasn't ready but went back to the hospital and everything looked normal. Definitely don't listen to everyone who said it was the worst pain. Everyones bodies are different and people feel pain differently. Get difflam spray and spray it on your tonsil wound before you eat helps numb the pain if any
I had my tonsils removed 3 days ago, and I've already had to go to the ER and get fluids. It hurts so bad I can't swallow at all. They gave me lozenges to numb my throat. It's allowing me to swallow a little bit. At least enough to get the liquid meds down.
Thanks so much for making this video. My 4year old grandson will be having this surgery in a couple of weeks… I remember mine from 40ish years ago… doesn’t sound like much has changed 🥹
I’m just starting day 6 and yesterday and right now are by far worse than any other day s far for me.Drinking water hurts and I started to feel like like sharp stinging on my right side when I drink.I don’t think many ppl realize the pain meds only alleviate some of the pain but there is definitely still pain when taking them!I have been getting the ear aches so bad too it’s low key brutal my pain right now and it genuinely feels never ending!I just want like a loaf of bread I stg.Yay day 6 😒
I’m on day 7, the ear pain is awful in this recovery process. I was finally able to eat noodles yesterday on my day 6, hoping it doesn’t get worse anymore and the pain is tolerable while the scabs are falling off
Hey I’m on day 7 and have had this sharp pain on one side as well. Did yours end up going away? I can’t even figure out exactly what the pain is coming from there is so much going on there
I’m like 18 hours post-op right now lol, I’m trying to figure out if I should take my pain meds right now. I could def use it now but I’m wondering if I should save it for days 3-5 because everyone is saying those days are the worst.
@@ChasingAfterSunset TAKE THE MEDS. The worst days for me were 1-4. I'm on my 5th today and I'm starting to feel normal again. Also I would take into account what the doctor/nurse/surgeon says
As i just got my tonsils out 9days ago.. Ear pain is horrible, take painkillers on time, ask for liquid medicine, sleep is you best friend the first days, try eating 2 hours after taking painkillers, soup is great, drink alot even tho its painful(i had to go to the er cus i got dehydrated) ice your neck, anything that contains alot of spices(sugar included) kinda hurts. I still don't talk cus it's weird and kinda painful, if you feel like you don't need painkillers through the day anymore still take one before sleep. Fast recovery.
@@mitsu4043 I was going to get my tonsils out but I decided not to after all I just got my septoplasty. I’m glad I didn’t get them removed my recovery would be way worse
Hi I need some advice. . Recently an ENT doctor has suggested me Adenoid removal surgery and tonsillectomy as I have a large adenoid gland on left side that is causing me frequent infections and cold. Should I go for it? I am really scared as I have read so many people saying that their immunity has worsened, voice has changed including other side effects after adenotonsillectomy.. Can you please guide me?? I am really scared right now! Should I go for it??
I am 4 days post op. While wayching this video i vomitted dark colored gastric content. What could it be. I can’t eat anything. Only cold water and icecream for 4 days
omg thanks so much for posting this, girl! I'm getting the same thing done soon. Can you explain what it was like to get the anesthesia? Like, how did they do it/what did it feel like? It's my first time going under and I'm absolutely freaking! Lol. Thank you, again!
That was the easiest part! After they had me set up on the table (the medical team also chatted with me the whole time), they held a very soft/squishy oxygen mask on my nose/mouth area, and before you know it I was out like a light! You honestly won't even know it's happening to you. One second you're in the operating room, and the next you wake up in recovery. Sending well wishes for your surgery!!
Hi .. thanks for making such a detailed day to day vlog .. appreciate it 👍.. I find it very helpful n informative.. I’m 43 I hv been struggling with tonsil stones for past 2years and now I’m prepp myself for surgery but I’m terrified of the recovery ..ur video has md me feel comfortable n stronger ..my ent has recomm me traditional tonsillectomy.. I hope it’s good, I’m from India
Every day of recovery is a day closer to feeling better! Be prepared with your comfort items on hand and you will pull through! Wishing you a speedy recovery.
I'm on day 14. It was the worse experience ever for me. I got gerd during my recovery and i couldnt eat or drink anything without it coming right back up. I'd swallow stuff and they wont stay down. The first 3 days were okay. I lost 20lb 😢. Im on day 14 and already eating hard stuff and moving on with life tonsils free😅. Day 4 and 5 is really tough. Pain pain pain. Surgery was a breeze while recovery is hell😢
I'm not too sure, the doctor mentioned the site looked quite red, but I didn't want to look in my mouth myself so I'm not sure what it looked like back there and just trusted the professional 😅
Im getting mine removed in 2 days and I'm scared and excited at the same time because I've been on a 3.5 year waitlist. ...FYI T3 constipates you... I'm just hoping because I'm celiac and lactose intolerant that the amount of yogurt I'll be eating will help.. 😅
I am 30 now and my parents finally agreed to let me get them removed after seeing me suffer so much. To me personally, sore tonsils are more painful and irritating than menstrual cramps. I am scared of surgery but i would rather the take the risk than live with this.
i had also my tonsils removed its very painful after the surgery 😢 but now after 2weeks it healed but i notice the my taste was not come back again😢 my question is this normal that i can't taste anaything?
My father had it done in his 20s and never had problems with his throat for the rest of his life. It's taken me forever to get a doctor to agree to do mine. I'm soooo looking forward to this. I've been waiting/suffering 25 years. I've heard it's hard to recover from the older you get and I don't want to be an old woman still getting these infections. Get it done if it bothers you so much and is chronic enough.
How was the pain overall? I'm getting mine taken out tomorrow and im super nervous about the pain and the dangers of bleeding. I've been reading horror stories online
I had my tonsils removed in April and just wanted to come back and say thank you so much for making this video! I remember laying in bed, totally miserable, and your sense of humor REALLY helped me get through it. To everyone going through it now: you got this!

What I found helpful during my recovery, hope this helps too! 👍🏽
1. Drink plenty of water, especially in the early hours of the morning even if you have to set an alarm for every 20 mins or so. If you don’t it’s more painful when you wake up in the morning having not drank any water. during the night and very early hours of the morning. I would recommend bottled water as this is less harsh on your throat, add plenty of ice 👍🏽
2. Watermelon 🍉 stock up on watermelon in the fridge and eat that when you wake up it’s very soothing on the throat.
3. Coconut water
4. Ice pack that you can tie/wrap around your head so that you don’t have to hold it, eBay and Amazon do these sort of ice packs
5. Eating regularly as possible
6. Keeping up with medication
7. Aloe vera juice
8. Plenty of rest
9. Watch other TH-cam videos to of people who have have documented there journey this will help you not feel alone and give you some more tips to help you recover better
All the best, you will recover and this will pass, you will get through this ❤

Your partner is correct. I just got an ent to finally agree to take mine out and I’m a little nervous about the process. So thankful for people on TH-cam vlogging it so I can see what to expect!
I'm on day 4 and here's what really helped me so far:
Ice packs (any)
Spit bucket (I just spit in napkins / tissue)
Popsicles (ice cream taste good but it makes my spit extra thick)
Sleep
Smoothies (pretty thin)
Jello(just kinda slides down your throat and it's cold)
Pudding
Ice water
Gatorade
Tips I have that helped me:
1# If you have soup make it lukewarm you DO NOT want warm hot soup it will hurt
#2 If your hungry eat nice things that will suit your throat, but whatever food
You can eat try to it will make you feel better
#3 Eat after you take your medicine it will not hurt to swallow and you will feel pretty good (don't waste your energy even if you feel good, I used my time to take a shower and change into comfy clothes and eat some)
#4 if your swelling i recommend ice packs it will decrease the swelling.
#5 if you want to have the baby food go for it, I don't think I could based on what I feed my brother and but also puréed is also good (it's baby food)
I also got my adenoids out I noticed no pain and only my throat hurt. I feel very lucky I've never had a tonsil stone. I got my tonsils out because they were ver very very oversized as well as my adenoids my adenoids and tonsils were 3-4x the size as they should be, already noticing my breathing is significantly better.
Let me know if you want anymore tips or anything
I'll put day by day up dates if anyone noticed this comment

Yes! Possibly even worse for because you are not on the same pain medication that you are when you come out of surgery. @@filipbrcko It is challenging because you start to get more confident eating food and swallowing but that inevitably will take the scabs off and then it's back to square 1.

(I surprisingly got sick of ice cream)
TIPS:
-stay 👏 on 👏 top 👏 of 👏 your 👏 medicine!!!!
-ice packs! An ice pack on my throat helped a lot, especially right before you eat because it will make it sort of numb
-eat real food as soon as possible.

Hi how did it go??
I’m on day 8 and I’ve already lost 13 pounds. I had to get an iv on day 6 bc I was so dehydrated. The ear pain takes the pain to an entirely new level, hell on earth! Praying I can start eating soon. Even popsicles burn my throat. All I can do is drink room temp water.
Do you know if you had traditional surgery, or if it was coblation surgery?
Well at this point, why didn't your doc get you oxycodon or maybe even Morphium, that's realy irresponsible by your doc to just leave you in this much pain
Same with me, water is the only tolerable thing, everything hurts and burns and I am just day 5.
your not alone i’m on day 7& boy i’m in pain everytime i eat or drink anything cold my ears and throat feels like it has cuts and burns
Same here sis!
When was it for you that you said eh today is good no pain?! How long did it take you recover?
Tnx a lot 🤗

I downloaded a text to speech app bc I have three kids and will not want to talk to them. lol
Also, keep an empty glass beside you for a spittoon and a napkin or cloth for wiping.
It's horrible I'm on day 5 an I have to brace myself to swallow
Im on Day7 and the pain is overwhelming. And im constantly getting fever 😢
Im on my 7th day now, 5th and 6th days are the worst! I wonder why? The first thing i do every morning from day 2 is to feel and compare the pain from previous day and i was so shocked on 5th and 6th. I thought i ate or did something wrong. Thanks for sharing your story.❤
Watching on my Day 1 post-op, thank you so much for making this!
How are you feeling now?
Yeah so that’s why we don’t do the surgery.
@@mr.claytonbigsby4342 fully recovered, best decision ever. 2 weeks of excruciating pain is worth it!!!
What’s worse removing wisdom teeth or tonsils? Please detailed information :/
Tonsils I’d assume but wisdom pain hurts initially not like 2 weeks..
Tonsil pain by far worst
I just had my tonsils removed 5 days ago. Really enjoyed your video! Thank you!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed! Hope you have a speedy recovery!
SO HAVE YOUR SORE THROATS AND SCRATCHY THROAT GO AWAY COMPLETELY MAY I ASK?
SO HOW DOES YOUR THROAT FEEL LIKE NOW AFTER THE SURGERY ? 😀MAY I ASK
This was really helpful. I'm on day 2.5 and this sucks. I'm so bored and sore and all I can eat is lukewarm soup. Really nice to watch other people know the same pain so I do not feel alone
edit/update: It is day 6.5 and things got much much worse. Day 4 was the absolute worst, and day 5 was only slightly better. Tons of crying, little to no eating, popsicles, and pudding. I hope things start to get better, since I've had my first scab fall off.
I’m on the end of day 2 rn any updates with u?
@@katiealbright425 Today was rough. Had a coughing fit which really hurt (choked on water) and throat has been extra sore from it. Ice water and pudding have been helping the most. Tomorrow I am getting a facial ice pack for my jaw and temples, as I noticed ice helps the pain there.
Did not eat for the rest of the day, I was not hungry at all.
My advice is to sleep as much as possible and drink as much as possible. I feel better than the average person because I'm drinking at least 32 fluid ounces every day. Lots of going to the bathroom, but worth it. Sleeping also is nice, though I'd wake up every 1-2 hours to drink water in order to stay hydrated, as I've developed a habit of snoring recently due to surgery.
im on day 5 today, it'll get better I promise. still sucks though :(
@@oliviarae7056 Aww I hope things get better for you!
Can you please help me remove mine it's so painful I can't even afford to pay mine
I’m gonna get my tonsils out soon but I’m kinda nervous :(((
Did research on this prior to my tonsillectomy, I found your video to be the most informative thank you.
How are you doing post recovery? Just catching up on comments now. Hope you're well!
Hello. Now, after some years, do you feel your imune sistem is weaken without tonsils?
@Daisy I be having this itching and I end up coughing as well . I was wondering was it the scabs coming off as well
@@ambieeeeee I think it was. I never bled. Thankfully! I also kept hydrated and my doctor prescribed antibiotics right away. It's been 2 months and I can finally say I'm 100% healed.

I did the surgery yesterday i just woke up and can’t speak at all it’s scary that it will get worse than this 💔 i have a really bad smell and my saliva doesn’t stop i have to spit every minute i can’t swallow without closing my eyes and clenching my whole body my jaw and head hurts so bad like i just got punched 😭 the tissue of my uvula dangled and it feels hard in some part of it i can’t wait for this month to end
Day 3 i just woke up i feel like my jaw is dislocated thats how bad it hurts i cant swallow food to take my pain meds I’m taking paracetamol right now and it makes me nausea there is nothing in my stomach 😢💔
Just had mine removed also mainly because of tonsil stones and it’s day 7 and i’m still in a lot of pain 😢 great video, love your personality and you are super cute ☺️
Hello I have mine scheduled soon due to recurrent tonsil stones could you please elaborate me on bad breath post surgery? And how many days did it last and do you have any more bad breadth or stones now
@@Mikmik261currently just got over my surgery. No more stones due to not having tonsils. Bad breath during surgery is likely due to the scabs. That was the worst for me, honestly my mouth tasted of just rotting death for like 6 days straight. That’s the only way to describe it. But should clear up afterwards when they fall off
I’m on day 6 and I’m in so much pain 😭 I need this to hurry and pass. Everything hurts my ears and body. I keep waking up in pain. And my stomach hurts cause I’m unable to use the bathroom 😭😭😭😭
The speech text! It’s 1am and I’m laughing so loud. I feel bad for my neighbors 😂😂😂
Could you work on day 10 or would you recommend taking 2 weeks off when possible?
Just encouraging people watching to not do the surgery.
@Leanntelope hi Did the tonsillectomy worth it??
Did you ever got tonsillitis afterward???
My tonsils just got removed Tuesday and oh my I feel like blah the pain is unbelievable thanks for the video
Full tonsillectomy or partial? Cobaltion or other method. I’m having partial done where they remove 90%, buy leave 10% behind
I’m on day two of pre op from the removal of my tonsils and I was prescribed liquid hydrocodone for the pain and I don’t think I could do it without this medication lol
Should I go through with it? My tonsils aren’t as bad as they once were.. and singing it so important to me - advice plz
Where is your dresser from? I love it!!
Ok I’ve been trying to figure out what does a infection look like
Tonscilectomy leads to IBS do you know?? Chronic fatigue and depression are complimentary add on.
Definitely that’s why I been trying to get out
I m at day 7.

I ended up being allergic to the pain meds. I was approved to take Tylenol and ibuprofen at the same time and I've been just fine
Hi Leanne I'm on the day34
And my voice has changed and become delicate and weak and it is difficult for me to raise my voice
Will it return to normal or will it stay that way? I'm very sad plaese help me
My voice was also weaker after the surgery, but it has returned to me now!
Are u ok now? Im on day 6 and im dyingggg
Im more just missing normal food to be honest 😅
thank you, have you had scarlet fever or tonsillitis? is the pain like that, or a different kind of pain

That was the easiest part!
