@@scream2207 ...Not only is it rarely taught, critical thinking was removed from the curriculum deliberately. In the U.S. (and most countries) we have what's called a "Prussian" based education system. The Prussian based education system removes the Trivium (aka Logic, Grammar, and Rhetoric). The Trivium is also known as the Liberal Arts, not because it creates left-wing liberals, but because it's considered fundamental for a person to be free. The purpose of the Prussian based education system was to condition youth to be worker-bees in the industrial revolution. It allows them to gain skills, but keeps them conditioned to be compliant to authority figures (aka bosses). The opposite way of teaching is called the Socratic method, which asks challenging questions to get a person to think critically about a topic, and dig deep into underlying truths. In comparison, the Prussian method can be considered "Giving a man a fish", where he then becomes dependent upon the fish giver, vs. the Socratic Method of "Teaching a man to fish", where he can self-sustain and be free. In my opinion, the Prussian based education system is the single greatest detriment to mankind. It is the shackles holding humanity back from greatness, peace, and global freedom. It is the system that allows "elites" control over the masses. ...and most people, including teachers, aren't even aware of it. Don't take my word for it. Research it... and then spread the word. This correlates almost entirely with the list of the poorest states with a few exceptions. Poor people don’t have access to decent education in the U.S.
Not only do the poorest areas lack access to a decent education, but they also often lack access to quality nutrition, which has a measurable effect on neurological development in babies and kids. So if a bunch of kids grow up without adequate nutrition for good brain development and education, those kids will likely end up with lower IQs than they would have had if they had access to better nutrition & education.
@@bukboefidun9096 If you don’t think IQ is heavily influenced by your access to education and socioeconomic status, then what on Earth does influence IQ other than genetic factors??
Kentucky is one of the poorest states. California is by far the wealthiest. California is number six and Kentucky isn't even on the list. Even poor people can get an education, if their state puts focus on it. It turns out that dusty, old textbooks work better than iPads, and blackboards work better than projector screens... when you actually teach the students, instead of letting them do whatever they want.
Not sure how accurate IQ testing really is. I'm in the 98th percentile and I've done so much stupid stuff, I could write a book. I once worked with a computer programmer who stood and stared at an air filter for almost five minutes thinking it was an indicator panel. Pretty sure your examples of people doing stupid things isn't really a reliable barometer.
If the IQ tests are based in English, then it makes sense California and Texas would have lower scores on average. The exceptions draw down the average, but they aren't very accurate tests when you are dealing with lots of immigrants, especially from Mexico and central America. Also highly correlated with poverty, well, the same deal really.
Having gone through school all over the country, California has fantastic schools. But only a handful of Californian kids take the advance placement classes. Most take the average to less than average classes and do the same in college. They're more interested in socializing & material things. Completely different reason for being below average than Texas. Texas schools were very, very different. Sports, especially football, were what everyone was excited about. The school district may not have a single computer lab, but they will have a multimillion dollar football stadium.

Absolutely true. This is ficitional but I remember the book, "The Razor's Age," by Somerset Maugham. It was made into a movie and then re-made in the 80s with Bill Murray. It's about a guy whose life is changed by his horrific experiences in the horrific WWI as an ambulance driver going out onto the battlefield, picking up "injured" (maimed, gassed, half-dead, etc.). He was a privileged, smart guy, but afterward he rejected his normal life path toward an upper-middle or lower-upper class lifestyle, moved to Paris and took menial jobs to devote his time to investigating the meaning of life and how to live it well. He even spent time with monks in Nepal for a spell. He worked as a miner for a while, too, and met another miner who introduced him to "Upanishads." I guarantee you there are bright people working all those jobs (I've met some of them), for many different reasons. Sometimes it's lifestyle (work/life balance; being outdoors; physical exercise; being on the ocean; etc.), sometimes it's the economy (what jobs are available in the place you live, and reasons, like family, for not moving to a better job, etc.), and other things. Nuance.

With a majority of the population in California living in the western part of the state, how can the minority of the population be responsible for setting the average I.Q.?
Well, think about it for a second. Do you think Liberal Elitist are smart enough to look at what they have done to California and learn from it? These people think that having their minds programed by centralized money makes them smart. They are Mentally deficient to have ever allowed academia or the media to PROGRAM THEIR MINDS IN THE FIRST PLACE.🤣🤣🤣🤣
If the Eastern population's I.Q. hovers around 80, (meth freaks, Fetal Alcoholic Effect, TBI, CTE, heavy metal exposure, nitrous heads, GHB, EXTASY,) they will drag down the average even tho there's a quarter the number in the cities. Politics don't have much to do with I.Q. Except in Flint, Michigan, where GOPBrains switched to more acidic river water, which dissolved a bunch of lead into municipal water supplies.
If you live on one of the islands in Texas (the big cities and their burbs) you live in a modern, educated state. Get into the boonies and you might as well be in rural Alabama, New Mexico or Arkansas.
Yeah, my wife's family is from Texas and they have degrees in EE and CS from A&M, Penn State and Johns Hopkins. I'm from California and was tested in high school and my IQ was tested at 146 in my Sophomore year. All anecdotal data on my part.
The thing is Texas and California (eww I'm putting them both in the same basket) are so large and diverse in cultures and languages that any I.Q. report is going to be slanted -- probably in the wrong way. I know a lot of oil field workers and ranchers that are pretty darn smart.
High intelligence does not always corelate with academic achievement, or success in life. Frequently, highly intelligent people can be poor students, and people of a generally low IQ can be excellent students. Highly intelligent children can feel misunderstood and suffer low esteem, depression, and other personal problems that keep them from being good students. Also, highly intelligent people can sometimes score much lower on IQ tests than they otherwise should
And rural folks. What he said about California was completely wrong, that all the low-IQers are in the back country. That's the simplistic thinking of a midwit.

They weren’t lying at all, but public schools don’t like the trades. They like to brag about % of kids they send to college. Odd they never report the % that drop out.
You suggested that CA’s low IQ is primarily due to the hinterland, not the cities. Same with Nevada. Basically blaming rural white folks. Would it be ok for me to similarly hint at why southern red states have low avg IQ? With vague references to their demographics? Or will that be unacceptable? And before you come at me, I am a brown immigrant. I don’t have ‘skin’ in this game.
3:50 Don't mock! I'm a welder by trade and (lapsed) member of Mensa. Modern IQ tests are based on statistical standard deviations, engineered to places certain percentages of people within given ranges; for example 68% of people are have IQs between 85 and 115. The mental age approach is not the modern approach, and was never really used for adults (for reasons that should be obvious if you think about it).

Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana don't surprise me. I don't know if it's coincidental or not, but all of the aforementioned states have large minority populations. Mississippi and Louisiana respectively being #1 and 2.
This video is total B.S. First, it's impossible to know the average IQ for a given state, since the vast majority never take one. Second, IQ scores are a very poor way of measuring most kinds of intelligence. Finally, to suggest a certain IQ best fits an occupation is akin to predicting what kind of food they like, or what type of mate they prefer. It's impossible to assess preferences based on an arbitrary measurement of intelligence. 🙄
Thanks for the video. Very enjoyable. IQ assessment is a very controversial field; more than a few experts question the validity of this type of testing. The interesting thing about the video is the type of job matches for these supposedly lower-IQs. Jobs like HVAC technicians, plant operators and welders are very important professions. A good master welder is a valuable asset to lots of fields including manufacturing, metal fabrication and industrial repair & maintenance. A good example of this is the manufacture of nuclear submarines. The hull plates must be welded together with absolute mastery because even one small imperfection could lead to certain death for an entire crew of Navy Sailors. Anyway, it was very entertaining. By the way, perhaps you should consider a video on another assessment measure called Emotional Quotient (EQ). This is a supposed measure of a person's emotional maturity and sensitivity. Now that would be interesting to see which states have the highest and lowest EQ measures! Thanks again! 🤔🙂
Agreed. Everything. Those are some good jobs when you factor in the salaries with how much spent on schooling. Hvac workers come out on top vs a therapist.

From a SC resident, we have some educational issues. The biggest one is that the individual school districts fund their own schools; the state pays salaries and benefits. That was set up during Jim Crow to ensure the wealthiest counties had the best schools. Some of the more rural/impoverished counties really suffer because of it. That’s really apparent along the I-95 corridor where there is very little industry. That area is know as the corridor of shame. It has started to change a bit but the inequity will continue until the old law is reversed. I doubt that will happen anytime soon; how do you convince the wealthiest, most populous counties to give up their kids school taxes?
How would you know the average IQ of a state? 95% of all people never do a reliable and supervised IQ-test, most of the people who do are not recorded. Additionally, there's often a reason why they got to do a supervised one in the first place, thus, the tested fraction is not a representative part of the whole population.
For certain states on this list, namely California and New Mexico, you need to take into consideration the outlying individuals that will bring down average scores, namely those with developmental disabilities. The reason is that both states have really good programs for people with them, and those programs help bring families to them. For example, here in New Mexico, we have the DD Waiver (Developmental Disabilities Waiver) that helps pay family living providers to care for individuals on the waiver, respite providers, ancillary services, etc. Up until about a year or two ago, the waiting list to get on the DD Waiver was 14 years, because it is so popular. So before running stories like this, you might want to look at reasons *why* the numbers are the way they are. We also have the county with the highest percentage of people with doctoral degrees; Los Alamos County, at 16.9% of the county population over age 25 having a doctoral degree. The next closest is Tompkins County, NY, at 9.2%.

Back in 2020-2021, we learned just how "essential" many of those workers are. Not that it increased their pay any. All that said, there are some very intelligent people working in what many would consider "menial" jobs and their reasons for doing so are varied
Some people do in fact enjoy working with their hands and doing manual labor. Many of those same jobs pay better than those requiring degrees. My sister was pissed to find out how much I make as an auto work compared to hers with a Masters in Psychology, especially with how much she owes to WMU. The slight here is weak at best and plain ignorant at most. The pay including benefits of union job exceed many of those in nonunion jobs sectors. I have a pension, I doubt this TH-camr does….

Though I was always first to finish written tests with math/trigonometry, definitions, etc., I felt like the dumbest person there for everything else.
Absolutely there's different measures of intelligence. Being book smart isnt everything if you have no common sense. It's good to learn about a wide variety of subjects. And pay attention to everyday life, it can teach you a lot.
Its called situational awareness and critical thinking. The latter is rarely taught in schools nowdays
1:35 repeating a task is much different than figuring it out without instructions
If we can create just one generation of critical thinkers, the world will change in such wonderful and incredible ways. ☮

Conclusion: The differences between Averages of IQ in America are very subtle. All states fall around average.
Because someone is not good at standardized tests, like the IQ tests, does not necessarily mean their IQ test score reflects their true intelligence.
IQ test is not a standardized test. For children it is commonly draw a man. Education is fundemental.
This is really not an education test. IQ is not = to education... or even access to it.
@@bukboefidun9096 If you don’t think IQ is heavily influenced by your access to education and socioeconomic status, then what on Earth does influence IQ other than genetic factors??
@@dirtydinner6463 ever listened to Shiela Jackson-Lee? No? I thought not. Nevermind.
Most of those people would score low in their own language.
New Mexico too for non-English speakers
Having gone through school all over the country, California has fantastic schools. But only a handful of Californian kids take the advance placement classes. Most take the average to less than average classes and do the same in college. They're more interested in socializing & material things. Completely different reason for being below average than Texas.
Texas schools were very, very different. Sports, especially football, were what everyone was excited about. The school district may not have a single computer lab, but they will have a multimillion dollar football stadium.
Some of the sub test's in a IQ test requires no reading or language skills. However, some of them do.
@@markt4297 Honest question: how does an IQ test require no language skill? It has be based on a response to writing or speaking, no?

I'm not correcting just stating why I don't give a whole lot of credit to the IQ scale.... that and my mother absolutely drove me nuts over how high her IQ was versus everyone else!
Nuance.

Oklahoma has the highest illiteracy rate in the U.S. at 40% of the state's population is functionally illiterate -- they beat out Arkansas, which has a rate of 38%.
The intro clearly makes the case that IQ numbers are a totally arbitrary way of measuring intelligence.
When it comes to the jobs I'm amazed dish washer was not on there for the last 5 states !! 🤣😂🤣😂
New Mexico, also known as the Meth State.
You mean New Methico?
The driveway doesn’t go all the way to the garage 😂
The garage is for storing junk. Park on the driveway.
Some guy tried to rob a place (Bank? Don't recall) thinking they weren't identifiable bc...they'd rubbed lemon juice on their face.
"But...I used the juice!"
The only thing I could come up with is they'd heard about doing invisible writing with it & somehow twisted that information.
Quite a list, Briggs!
ATW!
82ABN - the good ol' days, wasn't it?
@@paratrooper1Hard, but good. I returned from Baghdad 20 years ago to the day with the 2/504.
@@1chumley1 Happy anniversary, and welcome home!
Thank you. Same to you! The Eighty Deuce is a life changing organization.
Is Delaware one? I'm putting that out there in advance
Admit it - you're asking for a friend.
West Virginia. That is the “you will never be lonely as long as your sister is home state.”
Whatever that means… clearly you are a moron. An ignorant moron.
”Nothin’ says lovin’ like marryin’ your cousin.”
California is the state where people think that a man wearing a dress can get pregnant.
New Mexico surprised me @ #1.
I have a smart friend who lives there and she says there's a lot of dumb people there. She lives way off the beaten path, on her own, off grid. Away from those people. 😂
Aka New Methico
Probably southern states since the federal government doesn't support the communities.
I don't know about that Billy Bob is pretty dang smart.
- I'm a southerner. Don't come at me 😂
Dude awesome screen name. 😅 🍻
Hey billabong, try voting for the other party because the one you've voted for for 50 years is why these states suck
More like the RepubliCons don't support academics in their own states!
True ,and Midwest states like Oklahoma or Indiana , they really dont give af about supporting education and wonder why their state sucks
Remember Half of the people are below average ,in Texas that would be about 13 million people
This is the first list I've watched you do where you personally feel right at home with your true peers😊
OMG! REALLY? You are going to get in trouble one day. 😂 Is Florida on this list?🤣
I tested at 136, but , ive been to South Carolina and was born in Alabama.
Born and raised in AL here, tested 134.
And you left at what age?
😂ja ok?? 🤣👌
@lesliemoore1lol. Sure you did🤣👌656
@@geofjones9 I Graduated from the University of Auburn in 1978, age 22, I retired in 2021 from Publix.
9/10 would be blue states who keep on voting Democrats 😂
its a mixed bag
But the Republican states dominate the low IQ states. That is sad. What has your congress person done for you lately. Make them do their work for you or vote them out. That includes Democrats and Republicans.
Here in Texas, our schools score fairly high, but the honest teachers admit that Texas education scores are falsified, which is really sad because Texas still scores so low.
How is Indiana not on this list?
Need to be able to do fractions for drywall
Which is a skill people learn in fifth grade.
@@kerrynight3271 the only fraction I learned in grade school was pedo/me. What kind of skill is that?
When the major language is Ebonics or Spanish, there is just no upside.
Bingo.
I’m utterly shocked that VT, NH, and MA wasn’t on this list! 😮
Nah I believe MA is the state with highest average IQ
@@thomasgrabkowski8283 I know MA is considered the most educated state so it wouldn't surprise if it also had the highest IQ.
@@thomasgrabkowski8283 I was just being sarcastic. No doubt these three states would be on the list of states with the highest IQs.
We have Tufts University, Harvard, and MIT. The state has among the best educational institutions in the country.
I love it where I live in PA and my friends in neighboring states, but we have some people who are intellectually challenged 😂 Like WV, and i mean no offense to them, it's a beautiful state to live in and mostly very peaceful. There's plenty of good people there too.
Imho, Ohio isn't somewhere I'd want to live, but WV I would for the sheer beauty of it. 😊
