I guess I am a sour old man but I am a little bit galled by a lot of the comments that start happening around 16:50 in the tape. These Japanese Wake Island comrades were probably the ones that actually carried out the murder of the 96 people and others. I guess it's some sort of special bond when you murder people and get away with it. Maybe even hiding your guilt behind the idea that you honorably served the emperor.... there is no honor in lining up 96 people and chopping their head off or shooting them or however they killed them. During the Battle of the Bulge apparently there was a small group of US soldiers that stood up to the beginning of the onslaught and weren't recognized till years later. Similar to what happened to the people that fought back at Wake Island. So it appears to be a flaw in our military looks at the battles we fight. We all recognize the Alamo for rhe Valor that happen there. When we lose a battle you would think our military would at some point in time try to reconstruct what happened to recognize those that exhibited the Valor in the loosing fight. They're just as much Heroes as those that fought hard and won a battle. Thank you for all the people that struggled in this horrible War during the whole War. The only difference is that when you lose the battle the evidence of your Valor is lost or destroyed by the victor.
Thank you Idaho
I never had the full story of Wake all these decades
