  • 2 weeks before Merrie Monarch, the ladies of HNMOP started making their 'uli'uli for their kahiko mele, A Kona Hema. 1 week later the men started on theirs! I captured some of the process in making our 'Uli'uli in my latest vlog. Mahalo to Aunty Mele and Aunty Lynn for all your guidance on this project!

This video is PERFECT! I’m too cheap to buy them and I love crafts. Mahalo nui loa for sharing, not all of us have access to a Kumu to learn in person so thanks again!

I made my own uli uli black with a coconut shell and aliipoe seeds and glued feathers ups ! I also used kapa as decoration and now I want to learn how to make a piniu in true Hawaiian way.
