    Thank you Les for a beautiful and comprehensive demonstration.
    I have used pan pastels for portrait backgrounds and other auxiliary things, but you have shown me a whole new way of working with them to achieve depth and purity of color that I had not imagined possible!
    I see I have to order your dark madder too... and a generous pinch of your talent , before it flies off the shelf ... Thank you very much for a very enjoyable hour ❤️😇

    Ooops! It‘a not dark madder I need, it’s magenta... oh! my old head!!! My... !!! that is a very interesting shade of magenta ...
    And you are right , I use Uart paper for my portraits, and it really eats up the sponges, especially the delicate ones like the softtools!!
    Well, happy day!!!😇

    Love your work and would love to see a live demo, when we are able to get out again. What colours would you suggest as a starter set of pan pastels?

    • @PanPastel
      @PanPastel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lee - thank you. Les Darlow's favorite colors are in the kit that we created with him. There are two options shown here (along with our starter kits). Please do not hesitate to contact us via info@panpastel.com for more assistance. Here is the link for the sets; panpastel.com/sets-kits.html

    I’ve only tried clairefontaine pastel mat three times (with soft pastel). It’s amazing and it does everything you say but I always feel incredibly guilty because the price is quite painful (I think my A4 pad worked out £1.80 per sheet lol). I have it but I refrain from using it because I feel like I’m not worthy of it yet 😂. I’m not good enough to burn money like that 🤔😂. If I could make gorgeous art like yours, different story!
    I still sometimes feel guilty using the Hahnemüle Lanacolour at 30p a sheet to be honest - definitely not as nice as pastel mat but it’s amazing compared to the basic Canson mi teintes I started with. It has a canvasy linen type texture which makes my art look a bit like a painting on canvas more than a drawing (slightly like Strathmore charcoal paper but not as flimsy). It’s amazing when you’re not quite at PastelMat level yet 😂

      Hi - Thank you very much for your feedback on the different papers. It's a great idea to experiment with different surfaces as you are doing.
      PanPastel works great on so many different surfaces - and each artist will find their own favorite(s) for using with PanPastel. Depending on the tooth/texture of the paper - the color will appear either more transparent or more intense/opaque. On our website we shows images of PanPastel on different surfaces panpastel.com/tips-for-different-surfaces.html

    I’m a realistic painter as well. But I have purchased some of these pastels. Any advice on where to begin?

    • @PanPastel
      @PanPastel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hy Lynn - there are several tutorials on this channel that might be helpful, plus at Les's website LesDarlow.com he has lots of helpful information and is scheduling more demonstrations and tutorial that might help also.

    I was told not to use alcohol on Pastel Mat as it dissolved the paper surface.

      We would recommend checking with Clairefontaine the manufacturers of Pastelmat to check their recommendation regarding that: www.clairefontaine.com/

      Markers. Like Copic, or Sharpie.
