- In this video we take you along one of Colombia's greatest locations, Palomino. This backpackers paradise is tucked away in the northern region, away from any major city.

After seeing this video, I booked a trip from California to Playa Mandala for July 2024. The hotel cancelled w/out reason shortly after. Did not find a $40 taxi from Santa Marta to Palomino, did find $130 private car but ended up renting car for $175. Then booked Casa Cordje. There is no Uber in Palomino. The road off highway 90 into Palomino is barely drivable by car, mainly only motorcycles. If you took a bus you would end up walking a great distance with your luggage or maybe finding a tut tut. Prices are not cheap in Palomino. Cocktails $8-10, lunch $15-20, dinner $25-30 or more. The beach is no longer walkable as it has literally been totally washed away and the waves are brutal. All that is left is a 4ft drop of rocks. You can't even walk a path from beachfront to beachfront. All the adjacent resorts/hostels have no thoroughfare for you to cross between them to shortcut into town(Street 6) You must walk all the way back down Street 10 toward 90 to find one path to Street 6 where most of the stores, restaurants and bars are. Almost everything they said in this video is a lie, except I didn't need bug spray. The entire 3 days was overcast with gray skies so not really able to lay in sun. Palomino shown in this youtube video doesn't exist. Palomino is basically a very expensive hippie or backpacker location. Nothing like the video. Would not suggest even if you like roughing it is because it is expensive. Don't understand all these positive reviews. So sorry I wasted so much time and money to come here. Wish I was warned.

Hiw about the coastal erosion everyone is talking about?
thank you! and yes the erosion is evident. They have multiple sea walls along the coast to help. But it really doesnt seem to be doing much. When its low tide, you'll have a bit of beach to hang around in but not much at all really
Ah, the first person to mention it. Wish there were more detailed comments as I wouldn't have come. The erosion is severe. No beach to even walk on and the waves are very rough. Palomino is not like this video portrays

Does Santa Marta have salsa classes (how much) martial arts etc. Essentially does it have a wide rand of sports and actives.
I’m not entirely sure to be honest. We didn’t spend much time in Santa Marta and honestly wouldn’t recommend going there

@@volitionmartialartsandfitn2701 it was very crowded, the smell was horrible, very dirty, and it just did not feel as safe as other places when we were in Colombia. We were told by locals the same thing, so we would just go to Palomino & Tayrona National Park which is just beautiful! Maybe we caught Santa Marta at a bad time, but we would not go back.
