Great and very helpful video. Since we don’t have junkyards here in Honolulu, it was easier to order all three types of fasteners and $23 for the new actuator plus I replaced both rear window actuators at the same time, having extra fasteners worked out perfectly. Now I have a whole Jeep again. SWEET!!
Thanks a lot for your video Now I fixed Mine I Changed Mine yesterday, and yes ,That worked to lock the flip window too Now this can´t be opened from outside as before without unlock with remote
One tip it´s if you see that the activator don´t enter easily to the channel (the plastic part that makes the function of unlock and lock) you can adjust the lid latch with the metal part that had the green clip just remove the green clip carefully and turn it and that will regulate the distance between the Gold color metal parts doing easily to open the latch and the activador can pass without any issues
Would you be able to take off the latch cover/handle from the inside? The paint on mine is chipping and I want to vinyl wrap it but I don’t want to take the whole back hatch apart.
Rockauto.com sells it too. One of these days I'll get around to fixing mine. As a side note that lever you remove can be accessed through a small removable cover as a manual over ride.
Perfect - Back in action now! But be sure not to 'tighten' all the cables that go out to the latches like all the other videos say. This will also cause it not to 'open' becuase the latch is now out of alignment and the mechanism arm is not able to slide properly. Litlle enginuity ;)

So I'm having an odd issue, there being two latches, one on each side of the tailgate, the driver side latch secures the tailgate, but the pass. side latch won't latch/close. The remote still locks it, and the driver-side latch still keeps it secure. But hitting bumps the tailgate ajar alarm goes off constantly. Lol.. If the actuator is working on one side, would I just have to adjust the passenger side? Trying to get ideas before I rip the trunk cover off.
@@digitaldreamer5481 All I hear is road noise now because the roads here in Detroit are Real crappy. Now I really need one for the drivers side door because I had to change the window regulator. So now when it just rained for 2 days, the pocket on the bottom of the door filled 1/3 of the way up with water. Everytime I tried to remove one from a door at the junkyard it would break no matter how cautious I was when trying to remove it😡😡😡😡😡
@@crazyj4282 Hey Joe, I’m from Kalamazoo and we use to buy Nurf Foam spray out of Detroit, I don’t know if they still have that there, I could use some of that for my Ham shack too, lol. Nurf foam and some new green body clips for the door and spray just a line of that stuff just on the inside along the top of the door. Now if your door has any body cancer, then you only have no choice. That is breaking out the surf wax and filling those cancer areas with surfing wax, stuff works great. I see the local surfers do that to their cars all the time. I mentioned that nurf foam, I know that Gorilla Glue expands into a foam also, its gotta be worth a try…
@@digitaldreamer5481 the body clips can be ordered on amazon. I did that when i did the window regulator. They also have the ones for the lift gate too. A lot cheaper than the dealership and parts stores. I have never heard of nerf foam. Im gonna have to look that up.
You could easily add a interior switch. But I am always outside, at camp or on a trail when I need to access something in the side hatch. Thanks watching.

excellent.
Spot on Video. A new replacement I got from Amazon had a T-10 screw on the lever (T-15 on the mount).

So one actuator controls both the tailgate and the rear glass?? Nice! Easy fix
Excellent video!! Thank you very much.
Glad you liked it!
This is insightful. My jeep locks but the sensor thinks the door is still open. So I can’t get the remote start to work. Any ideas?
Sounds like a newer Jeep and probably more sensors. They should be able to do a scan to see if something is throwing a code.
What year is the jeep

How did get the tailgate open if it were closed to replace the part the person didnt driver the car in with it opened
climb in from the back seat?
What about moisture protection seal? Did you apply anything?

Does that actuator that you swapped also lock the flip up window above or is that a separate actuator?

You'll have to dig into it and see what is up. Might need a junk yard replacement.
Where can i find the black covering? It fell apart upon removal.
Junk yard
I wouldn’t even worry about it, same thing happen to me tonight when I replaced the rear hatch actuator too.

@Spiral Design Works
subbed! :)
have you by any chance modified a WJ hatch to open the hatch and/or window from the inside?
You could easily add a interior switch. But I am always outside, at camp or on a trail when I need to access something in the side hatch. Thanks watching.
Quick question, I’m having a similar issue. The rear hatch will lock, but won’t unlock? Might you have any insight?
Actuator is probably shot. Junk yard $10
Amazon $20
Hey, great video! Would you say this would work for a 2007 Jeep Commander?
probably very similar. Not to many of those in a junk yard if you were going to try and find a used part.
it was a great video, is this 04' or a 05' grand cherokee? i have the same issue with a 05'
It is a 2001 WJ. I imagine the problem covers many years.
You no how to fix the hatch window. It wont open?
Actuator probably went bad. Junk yards are full of them. easy replacement. Very similar to this job.
@@SpiralDesignWorks thank you for the answer. You every get the front fenders up for sale and the tire career
I bought a bunch of fiberglass and resins to make molds...does that count? The tire carrier is up for order on my website www.echelondesignworks.com

Yeah probably. Good thing a big kit of them is cheap on amazon.
