I passed by a monument dedicated to 2LT Perez today with my 1 year old son and found this video after searching for her name. One of the most difficult assignments I’ve had in the Army was as a casualty assistance officer-“selfless service” often means painful service. I hope her family has found some peace. Rest easy Soldier.
Only thing I didnt agree with was when the her friend said if her daughter was half the lady as Emily was she'd be proud....thats her child...she's supposed to be proud regardless...Rest In Power LT. Emily Perez...
She was not unconscious. I did not know LT Perez but I know the guys that were part of the recovery. Of course the truck was destroyed and burned but from what they described to me she was most certainly KIA. I will never repeat what I was told so don't ask. I retired in 2012, CW4, 920A.
Thank you to the parents for raising a fine outstanding women who everyone should be proud to have come across. She made the world a better place. Her parents are outstanding strong people. God Bless Emily, her parents and family and telling her story. Thank you for her story.
This was so wonderful for me to see. My father attended West Point and I remember the day they allowed women. It was published in the paper. My father was outraged because, “Women will ruin the academy!” I just walked away because I was used to that from white men from the 60’s on. He was just too scary to argue with. But seeing a black woman at West Point and the references to all different colors and nationalities reminds me that despite the steps back, if I’m still alive it was all white men when I was in my 20’s and now there are black women, then some progress has been made in our country and that is more important than anything else that is going backwards. She was a shining star and I can only hope God called her home for a much higher calling.
God Bless Her For Her Faith! It would be nice to see Black Woman of Rank represented in large numbers of rank in Black Africa! AFRICA/ NIGERIA, ETC WILL NOT RISE TILL THIS IS ACHIEVED!!!! Till then the West seems to be the on;y way to go!
Why is it when there's a talented person or the only color person to be doing certain skills they always get killed. Like the stunt woman in deadpool movie on motorbike, she was apparently the only black woman stunt person. How can this be when we delicate our time studying at uni to achieve so much and at the end we don't get what we pay for. . She was a minority. God bless her soul and I hope you all continue to achieve your goals and dreams. I think we shouldn't go to university because is a trick from the system to take our money and still our freedoms and ideas at university. I studied products design and environment but my passion was research design in ergonomic user centre design. I tried to get a job in London but the company I wanted to work always gave me an excuse. I did manage to get the job as a research designer with my a product design I was working for on a 1 year work experience which I completed based at a university but it was 2 hours journey. But yes so much silly excuse such as your too experienced or talented.

@@yootoob2 I was skimming through it because wasn't nobody saying anything, except ahhh she was such a good person and whoop whoop ,but not saying too much about what happened, but I take it she was shot ,by friendly fire ,rolling around in a tank,but what I was saying is that the story got a lot of holes in it, like a made up story,that made me mad ,because ppl was just as confused as me,her dad just took the story and left it at that,maybe you can let me know, what you think happened
Perez was deployed to Iraq in December as a Medical Service Corps officer. She was killed when a makeshift bomb exploded near her Humvee during combat operations in Al Kifl, near Najaf.
