      @@azamkhan1526 Well i'm gonna teach you some history : Spain and Portugal ( the whole stuff of iberian peninsula) were part of Morocco since the rising of AL-Andalus at 755 to its falling at 1492 ( Fall of Emirate of Granada ), Morocco was called at the time the Almohad dinasty.. Morocco was also rulled by a dynasty called the Almoravid its capital was Marrakesh, this empire came after the Almohad and they added spain, portugal and the south of France to its territory ..! it still a lot of things to say about the history of Morocco it's just matter of time and energy to write the whole stuff but i recommand to you to do some instructive searching about the history of Morocco just a question of being more carefull the next time after you pronounce something about my country :D

    King Sebastian was a virgin lunatic that disgraced his dinasty and Portugal. Still, the love the people had for him, calling him the "wanted one", makes him a crucial point in portuguese history and culture. Sebastianism was born out of his defeat at this battle, a belief the king was not dead, rather was to come back and rescue the kingdom on a dawn of fog...whant to understand the Portuguese soul? In fairness to Sebastian he was just one of many, many young kings who set out thirsting for glory and conquest against much larger foes, risking everything in the process. Henry V of England comes to mind, as does Alexander the Great, and they are remembered positively in spite of the fact that had they failed it would have been just as bad for their realms as it was for Sebastian's Portugal.
      The difference being of course that their gambles paid off whereas Sebastian's didn't, though as HistoryMarche makes clear, the battle that claimed his life almost went very differently.

    • @mariano98ify
      @mariano98ify 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Plo Koon Not luckily for you I am not a nationalist, rarely a patriot, but you are telling lies and it shows that you are partial, the union of crowns worked, but it was when the "Count of Olivares" wanted to take away the privileges of the Portuguese bourgeoisie and nobility that they rebelled, when Spain already respected the institutions and Portuguese language.
      You said: "Portugal suffered a lot under Spanish rule, the Portuguese people hated the Union of the Crowns that simply brought death and misery to Portugal". Just show how biased you are and how little you know about history, you just want to lie and justify the decline.

    • @mariano98ify
      @mariano98ify 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Plo Koon you gave me some reason when you affirmed that until the nobility rebelled, the Portuguese were not "free", the count of Olivares wanted to end the disparity and tax difference to revitalize the Treasury and end the privileges, sadly that affected mostly to the citizens because the King was not going to take risks with the nobles because he needed his support, but the count insisted on ending the privileges of the nobility and that enraged both the Spanish and Portuguese nobility, hence the independence. One thing you and I agree, the Austrias (Habsburgos) were bad rulers when using the manpower of the Iberian Peninsula and the raw materials of their Empire to finance wars against Protestants and maintain Austrian hegemony in the Holy Roman Empire. I have no intention of whitewash the history of Spain, but to say that Spain was the worst for Portugal seems to me bad and very biased. Especially since if Spain had won the war against the Netherlands and Great Britain, Portugal would never have had to worry about losing any colony to its future competitors. I dont know all the history of Portugal but i know the history of my country with Portugal and because of that i know some of your statement are wrong or biased.

I knew many spanish people, most of the time they treat you better than your muslim/arab fellow country men. So, you want me to hold a grudge against an entire nation because of events who happened decades ago? Did the Japanese forbid relations with the USA, because of Nag and Hiro? The relatives of the prophet who were murdered by omeyyads you said! Ali Ibn abi Taleb was murdered by poisoned knife when he was struggling against Muawiya (the first omeyyad calife). Hussain the grandson of the Prophet killed by the army of Yazid (the second omeyyad calife) and his brother Hassan who was (also?) poisoned, and guess when and why. The sahabas killed by omeyyads, Ammar ibn Yasser and Ubaid allah Ibn zubair...... The holy city of Medine was sacked for three days by the omeyyads, so rape, plunder murder and enslavement....
      I was thinking that you were just delusional, now I'm guessing that you're ignorant too.

    The death of Sebastian created the union of Portugal and Spain, not the loss of the independence of Portugal. People forget that Philip I of Portugal / Philip II of Spain was half Portuguese. So, Spain also had a Portuguese as their king, and not just a spanish as the king of Portugal. Anyway this union was a disaster because the best war ships of Portugal were damaged in the infamous Invencible Armada campaign. Portugal was the sea power at the time, and never recover their prime after that.

      King Felipe II of Spain who later became also King Filipe I of Portugal wasn't the rightful heir to the portuguese throne anyway but instead it was Infanta D.Catarina de Bragança and she was the one who should have been crowned after the DEATH of Cardinal-King D. Henrique I.
      King Felipe of Spain took the portuguese crown by military force and economic bribes gaining ONLY a limited political support among a few portuguese nobles from the remainder of the nobility after the moroccan disaster but the vast majority of the portuguese people was never in favour of the Union of the 2 Iberian Kingdoms (read about D.Antonio, Prior do Crato and the Battle of Alcântara)

      There is a Portuguese movie that shows this battle (and other battles)
      "No, or the Vain Glory of Command"
      The movie message is very beautiful, but it is old and doesn't have a large budget, so no huge battle scenes or nothing spetacular.

    (Sebastian, King of Portugal was preparing for the Fez [Morrocco] campaign 3 years ago, he also asked for Spain’s help, Philip II promised the Portuguese king to help provided that he marry his daughter. Sebastan agreed despite his hatred for women..and thus he received 50 ships and 6,500 infantry from Spain, Philip also paid a third of the campaign’s expenses in exchange for a third of the spoils and a third of the coast of Fez)

    This battle was very consequential for Brazil. For portugal it was a great tragedy, and lead to their annexation by Spain (iberic union 1580-1640). The union with spain, dragged portugal (and all its possessions) to all wars spain was involved.. this lead to the sacking of my homecity (Recife) by James Lancaster in 1595 and the invasion of Northeastern Brazil by the Netherlands, as a consequence of the war between spain and the lower countries. King Sebastian also became some kind of religious legend, and his cult (Sebastianism) sparked a rebellion here in Brazil in 1896. The cultists waited for his return (The body of the king was never found, and because of that he became a religious martir) with his knights to reclaim the Brazilian empire from the newly founded republic. His prophet was called Antonio Conselheiro (Conselheiro means adviser).

    • @elbpc
      @elbpc ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Portugal was NOT anexed by Spain.
      Portugal entered a Personal Union with Spain (2 countries sharing the same King).
      The difference is important. In a Personal union both countries share the same king but they keep being independent countries, each with their own laws.

    Very Nice video it summarizes alot of events with amazing graphics and animations,
    May i suggest that you make more content about morocco (an empire 1200 years old is every history lover wet dream ).
    There's alot of dynasties and big conflicts in different centuries,
    Examples :
    - almoravids / almohads compaigns in iberia / europe
    - the moroccan - ottoman conflict
    - the conquest of songhai empire
    - the resistance against imperial powers ( pretty much modern time ).
    Thanks for the great content, keep it up.
