Cool song I thought this was inspired by Supper's Ready - Genesis, but I know I would have been wrong.

U should give "The Great Nothing" by Spock's bears a listen. My favorite epic from them right behind On a Perfect Day (which isn't really an epic because of it's length but it's soooo good)

The fact that "The Great Nothing" is only #3 for me on the album and the fact that I love that song is a statement for how much I love V as an album.

My personal favourite spocks epic is from their second album "beware of darkness" and called Time Has Come. Has a really particular atmosphere and tone to it and tells a story just like the water.

I think I said my piece about Spock's Beard and this era of Neal Morse on The Light video, but this track was definitely unusually dark and heavy for them. Hearing Morse say "fuck you" is still quite jarring (bit like hearing Ned Flanders curse!), and it's kinda funny how he goes from that into the "I'm so sorry" section. Musically I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a bit of grunge/alternative rock influence, but it could also just be the Marillion influence. Marillion in general was the first neo-prog band to embrace a lot of the darker tonalities of grunge/alt. rock, and I think of all the prog bands of that era they made the transition the best. This still sounds like 90% classic prog to me with just a few touches of more contemporary (for the time) influences.

All right! My favorite song on this album. As hard and gritty as Spock's Beard ever got.
    Ps, FU.....I’m sorry.

This style of song from SB is by far my favorite and it's a style they consistently tapped into for their albums before Neal left. Any songs that shove Dave Meros (bass) and NIck D'Virgilio (drums) to the forefront amd let the guitars and (fantastic) keys fill in gaps work very well for them.

Spock's Beard would go on to really embrace a heavy, grungy sound in their _Octane_ album, about a decade and a half late. "Surfing Down the Avalanche" especially.

This is definitely an interesting one! Personally, The Light will always be at the top but I'm glad to see so many people still love this track.

Hi, question / remark: If you like Floor (Nightwish) and Simone (Epica) Than I have something for you ! Check Ayreon !!! Begin with: Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down - The Source (2017) song / composition 13min (sort) with 11 main singers also Floor and Simone ! After that Check Ayreon - Everybody Dies (Ayreon Universe) LIVE also with Floor ! I'm very, very, very sure you will like and love it ! And there much form Ayreon. It's Prog/ metal / rock of the highest level. all songs are a story line. So when you dive in not the order of the song ! If you want to see and hear the composer / creator, Arjen Anthony Lucassen then check the song: Ayreon - Garden of Emotions (Electric Castle Live And Other Tales) LIVE ! The first singer is Arjen !
If you want to see Marko (from Nightwish) Check Ayreon River of time (Universe). You Will LOVE it and want to see more and more......and more !

Neal Morse’s vocal delivery on Sola Scriptura channels Axel Rose. And on Lay Down Your Life from Whirlwind he sounds just like Paul McCartney. I think his vocal mimicry is not a parody but a homage. I could be wrong though
Ps, NM is a huge Beatles fan. A lot of his songs remind me of The Abbey Road medley. It’s a songwriting style that I particularly like.. See Suite Charlotte Pike for a Very Beatle-esque Abbey Road song.

Man that bit from "The Conflict" is so great. Pope Leo X as Axl Rose is inspired.

'when it all goes to hell' is about being born. "floating in your own private bed/soft and it's red" is the womb.

I watched 'the light' and then skipped ahead to this. Much like Dream Theatre, I feel the music is incredible and talented, yet only certain songs will resonate with me. I certainly feel there will be several SB songs (ones that I have yet to become familiar with) that I will love, but they aren't these two. That said, ad be happy to listen to their entire catalogue, as I know it will probably be there

HUGE Neal Morse fan here,BUT...this is one of the very few tracks that I don't care a ton for. Some parts are fine, but the 'FU' section is jarring and not much for melody. Most anything by him and his various projects is a thumbs up for me. Keep going,bro--you'll adore his output! T
