    I played this game when I was 10. I grew so emotionally attached to these characters. What an amazing story it is.
    Edit: I'm amazed at the recent comments lol.
    I had older brothers. They helped me understand the game.

      Similar here. I remember being incredibly young, honestly probably too young to play, like 3 or 4 when I first tried the game. And even though I never progressed far I remember becoming super attached to the characters. Watching the first couple cutscenes hit me with a ton of nostalgia.

    I have so many fond memories of this. It was one of the first games I saved up for and bought on my own as a teenager back in the late 90's. Still there's something that's always chafed me on later playthroughs. I understand Dyne and Althena's motives in trying to let humanity stand on its own 2 feet, but Ghaleon's not wrong for calling them both to task about throwing aside their obligations to the people on a romantic whim. Althena abdicated her power to go and play among the natives as it were. The problem being, whether she likes it or not, she's a goddess. What's good enough for human beings isn't good enough for a god. Not to mention she KNEW Zophar was out there still slithering about just waiting for her to buckle and step down. And yes, though it's dangerous for her to deal with him directly, that's EXACTLY why the Dragonmaster exists. He's not Althena's bodyguard, he's the guardian of her PEOPLE. Althena shouldn't even NEED protection from her own creations. Yet this game insists that when Althena decides to go, EVERYTHING goes- her, the dragons and the Dragonmaster. Having a legit Dragonmaster around is not a hindrance to mankind's spirit blah blah blah. Someone willing to step up and defend others and prove themselves worthy of that honor should be able to carry on that legacy, especially with the return of the 4 dragons in the sequel. Althena may have tired of trying to play mother, but cutting her creation off from her so completely just reeks of parental abandonment.

    • @Vastin
      @Vastin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      True, but you also have to imagine being a parent is one thing - that's a hard commitment that lasts for several decades, tops, before you're off the hook and relegated to the history books. Althena is immortal, and while its one thing to casually say 'forever', dealing with the reality of that would be almost unfathomable from an emotional standpoint.
      At some point I think it would be fair to allow her to reclaim her own identity whether or not her creation is comfortable with that idea - whether she chose the best time or reason for that is of course open to debate. :D

    • @justingensel157
      @justingensel157 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Vastin And again, it's not so bad that she leaves, but she also leaves no protection for her creation. The dragons just seem to go into hiding after she's gone. That's what the Dragonmaster is for. The Dragonmaster and the 4 Dragons are Althena's eternal legacy that she should have left to the world after her abdication. I understand that being a parent is a hard task, but it's one that never truly ends, even when your children grow up, to some extent, you'll always look out for them. The Dragonmaster line continuing even beyond Althena's time as the supreme god of Lunar would have made for a touching memento. If Ghaleon were to ask: "What about the people? What about the children you're leaving behind?" The perfect response would be "They'll still have the Dragonmaster and they'll still have each other"

    • @tylersoto7465
      @tylersoto7465 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very true. It wasn't the right decision for Althena to just leave because humans beings need a higher being to be a light in their world and nurture them . Not only that but if Phacia and her 2 sisters wanted to have a living place for her people why didn't they use their powers to enhance the wasteland to produce life etc

    Back then, you played through an rpg, and if you were lucky you'd be rewarded with the next movie like scene. Now, you watch an rpg through tons of movie like scenes, and if you're lucky you might have a chance to play part of the game.

    I just finished the GBA remake the other week. Great game, if a little bit light on difficulty level. As well, the story wasn't as complex or multilayered as I'd liked. Ghaleon's betrayal seemed a little puzzling and unconvincing in the GBA version. Either way. I really feel like playing the PSX version again now. I remember I used to pop the discs in just to watch these gorgeous cutscenes. Good game, either way

    What about the cut scene before the game begins? You know, the song that starts "When all the land is peaceful and there is no further threat to us... There comes a time for love, two hearts colliding into one great hymn... But there are winds foreboding and... ". Anyone remember that? I loved that song!!

    The song that Luna sings on the dock... I didn’t own this version, only the one for Sega CD, so the first time I heard it was in a video on the internet of a cat trying to be adopted, and then it became an angel after the “for my star to come” line. I swore to my friends that that meant the cat died, but they said no. I still think they were wrong.

    So Ghaleon went nuts because he saw well, what he viewed as Dyne committing an abominable act. This made him embittered in self-admitted despair. It planted the seeds for the transformation from an ex-hero of Althena, into Magic Emperor, leader of the outcasted vile tribe.

    Omg the power of the human spirit? Like whaaaat? Spare me of an over-used trope, (Blindi dealism). in an otherwise masterpiece game. I mean , why is the opposing viewpoint so typically villainized in most RPG tales? I like Alex as an epic hero figure still, but somewhat comprehend why Ghaleon had a problem with his somewhat misplaced\overly optimistic faith in human goodness\and Dynes', to begin with.. Stillll, Ghaleon let pessimistic spite get best of him making him rather sadistic and manipulative 2 a level of extreme derangement.. Alex had noble traits countering this duplicitous antagonist , though naive in some ways. I would rather be naive, than a control freak megalomaniac , yeah. Hiro was equally naive, yet was 10000x better than that nihilistic Zophar from Eternal Blue .
