Actually I’m wondering why Disney can’t just make a completely new story involving black characters. The Little Mermaid was based on a Scandinavian folktale.

By the way, there can be adaptations of Moses's story in anime and manga, but the characters would simply be dubbed in Japanese for the local market, as it was with many meisaku (Sherlock Holmes, Heidi, Ie Naki Ko ~ Rémi Sans Famille, Belle And Sebastian, Versailles no Bara, and many other adaptations from famous novels in the 1970s-1980s). Everyone saying that her being played by a black woman is fine/empowering (which dont get me wrong, it is) but just imagine the outrage if a white woman portrayed a black princess in a movie.
That is a very different thing though, isn’t it? There’s hundreds of stories about white princesses and definitely not enough about pincesses of colour (or heroines of colour in general). It’s the same with a lot of other minorities, though I’m actually not sure if BIPOC are a minority, I don’t know what other word to use, though, sorry.

Miles morales is a great example of a well written original black character that black creators can take some inspiration from.
