    When faced with hesitant restart/low power when hot and no DTCs it is a useful diagnostic to scope the crank and cam position traces just to check their peak voltage amplitudes. At the low revs, when using the starter motor to turn the engine over, the low amplitude signal output from a failing sensor (heat exacerbates the effect) may have difficulty in reaching ECM detection thresholds sufficient to trigger spark but when up and running the amplitude is enough to allow the engine to run well.

    Ivan it's ironic you looked at wheel speed, had a 2011 enclave here last year with intermittent jerking and slow down , customer would pull over shut it off wait a short time start up and go. might not happen for a few days again. I kept the car for days no problem until I drove it on a very hot afternoon at highway speeds. Right rear wheel speed sensor showed. she would shut the car off and the code would reset, I didn't do that kept it running traction light came on and so did the abs, I went wheel sensor shopping. bingo. No more hesitation. the way she described it to me I thought it was engine related. IF you get this car back you might want to follow your instinct. Good luck and thanks for he post.

    I hate Flat rate, some people love it, but warranty issues kill your pay check. So very few are going to spend the time looking for the intermittent complaint, simply cannot get paid. You can be the hero at times, but you also starve. The owners of the business do not care, heck they sell cars, so the Tech gets shafted for a problem created by the manufacturer.

    I'm like Steve, Ivan. The dealer just had to look up the car for TSB's and could have found issues where calibration files were out of date. And could have updated the PCM without any charge. Good find Ivan on discovering the issue!

    • @wmichaels362
      @wmichaels362 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good point. GMs official Strategy Based Diagnostics/SI has the tech/mechanic check for TSBs and Bulletins before proceeding with diagnostics. Since GM scan tool does not make this automatic, and they do not get paid, it is a step that gets skipped.
      A system where the scan tool polled the vehicles system automatically (and fast), listed needed updates, and any TSTs/Bulletins whould be a real help fixing the cars.

    I'm a dealer tech and the way your customer was dealt with is embarrassing. Poor show on their part. Dealers get bad names as it is without that kind of poor service. I can only speak about myself, but TSBs and latest flash would have been my first port of call on a complaint like that. I do work at Toyota though and as I'm sure your aware they are perfect in every way!!
    .....I am not at all biased!

      +Toyota Tech i work in a gm dealer, and we stay up to date on electrical diagnoses and ALOT and i do mean A LOT of dealers have a bunch of hacks working in them, who don't care and just wanna fill your wallet with flat rate, i've ran into this issue before and a software calibration will fix it.

    Nice 👍- no fix but I do have something that may help. All dealers work the same as you know but the customer should always call the 1-800 number in the back of their owners manual whenever a dealer fluffs them off. GM will tune-up the dealer to deal with the concern. On star keeps a record of a de-rating of engine speed , GM will investigate that as well. The dealer is completely negligent since you have demonstrated TSB's and an on star fault code. It would be nice if the customer called GM and referred your findings to the zone rep. to view your vid. This will be given high priority when brought to GM's attention. Let us know how this one turns out.

    SI is GM's Service Information database. It's what GM techs use to check for TSBs, PI, and all related dealer service information. To bad GM tech don't have it as easy as Chrysler Wi-Tech system. That system has a master screen that shows all module equipped & active plus adds an icon when any module is due for update. It's like an incentive to Chrysler techs to check because you can get time for updating modules. GM techs have to search each module through SPS if they want to check for module update. No incentive and some times just to much a hassle.

    Buick Enclave one of the worst suv's with every kind of problem you can imagine !!
    Timing chains, leaky roofs, rubbing ac line, leaky rack, coroded fuse and wire harness, water filled blower motor, dash display reset,
    Buick should fire the team behind the Enclave !! And the 3.6 motor !!

    Could it be the fuel pump driver module? A friend of mine just called and needed help. A hot, crank no start situation. There's no codes. Possible fuel pump and/or driver. His is a 2015 with 29k miles. What your describing sounds like a fuel delivery problem. As most fuel pumps don't throw codes. A module might if it's completely failed, but an intermittent one may not. Hate to throw parts at it, but sometimes a grenade approach might work. Edit: Looks like there's also a mechanical (OMGoodness) high high pressure fuel pump for the direct fuel injection. That could also be getting weak. Haven't found out yet where it's mounted, but orielly and AutoZone sells one.

    Did you ever figure out the deal with that enclave. I jus got one and no one can seem to figure out the problem. When my vehicle shuts off on the odometer it will say “ Security Theft Deterrent System” i don’t know it that’ll be any useful for your diagnostics on the issue.
