    Hey! Lane! Great idea! Lane I live in a town that you can only have 6 hens, that 160 lbs. will last all year. I 'll need to find something smaller, like a 5 gal bucket. Great idea, i'll start work on that. Thanks Again!

      Hi. A 5 g bucket would work as well. Just smaller PVC fittings. Peace to you and yours

    Great Idea might need to raise off ground at chicken height so easier for them to get into or make another with holes higher. Looks like your going to need more than one. Might also want to weigh down some way so wind doesn't knock it over. Glad you've mastered the Clutch. Great Truck. God Bless and Peace Be With You All

    For sure about weighing the cans down as the feed empties, we have ex large cans I can barely handle but manages to blow over in any wind bursts. Great idea and execution.

    Thanks for sharing lane. Your’s idea seem to be easier than most other youtubers. What I like best is that you did not use any kind of silicone glue. I don’t have any yools can cut that pvc, hopefully lowes can help me cut it upon purchasing. Thanks again!!!

    I did this when I had chickens it worked great I could put 50lbs in at a time it would last 2 weeks at a time. I would suggest making more of them for the amount of chicken you have. Great job Lane.

    I made something similar years ago, but I believe I used a 4" elbow. I didn't even know they made an elbow with a male and female end! I like how you used it! Just an FYI, I found that I had to raise mine up about 2" because the chickens seemed to have some difficulty. Not to mention, raising it up helped to prevent much splash up when it rained. Good job!

With your windy area, you'll just have to check on it for blow over issues when the bucket gets half full. Be careful when lifting lid to refill, you might find a critter surprise. I agree with the others about the height of the feeders, and weighing it down against the wind. You also might think about a bungie cord or latch system for the lid, to keep it from blowing off. Great idea, though you may need a couple more, for the number of chickens you have.

    Is one feeder enough for all those chickens?
    Why is the elbow down? I don't know anything about making feeders. I'd think upward they'd fill with the seed. Can you explain how the down facing ones work please?

    • @VWFamilyFarm
      @VWFamilyFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They face down because since they are raised off of the bottom, feed can get under them. The chickens are just reaching down in there and eating feed off the bottom of the can.
