We've solved our gift wrapping problems. I started wrapping all gifts with fabric, Furoshiki style. It's reusable and doesn't take up a lot of space. Haven't bought gift wrap in 4 years.

One time my mom wrapped up a dictionary from our house and gave it to me... apparently there was supposed to be a gift card inside but the gift card accidentally got thrown away or something 😂
Last year my grandparents got me and my husband a book promoting the cult we grew up in (and left 6 years ago) and then cried and begged us to read it 😬 it was uncomfy to say the least!
