I have made this bag twice according to Jess's tutorial, and it gave me the confidence to re draw all the pattern pieces and make a larger bag to accomodate a laptop computer. Also added fleece for softness and it's turned out! Thank you for such wonderful teaching.

Whenever Jess says “No sharpies in the sewing room” I always say “But I have to have em!” 😂 I know I know but it’s just SO much easier marking out things with a sharpie then anything else 😂😆 (always within the seam allowance and ALWAYS on the wrong side).

I made this over the weekend and definitely made some modifications, such as turning thru the pocket. Snaps too instead of Velcro. Also made a main zipper closure without the zipper ends and added a zipper tail. Added a rivet to the top middle of the back slip pocket. For the pleated pocket, I stitched Vs at the top center like Bagstock patterns do and stitched the folds. I’m going to make this again and this time I’m going to do a pocket where this zipper is more finished and wider. I’d also make the internal mesh pocket deeper. Want to add a small key ring holder inside.

The only thing I would suggest is that sometimes snaps aren’t strong enough to hold it by the top small handle how about something like a buckle swivel hooks which would be very cute for a guys bag or even for a girls bag.

In regards to the lining: if you want to sew a deeper seam which = more gather… what if you baste each piece, trim excess and then just sew at the 3/8”/ it would be a few more minutes, but cleaner lines? Just a thought. 😊

Wow! This is so cute! I could see this for my husband - minus the feminine fabric (so hard not to buy all of the girly things though!!)... I wonder if you could do a zip pocket on the back instead of a slip pocket? I am thinking cell phone pocket on the side (not flap side) since it's close to the body. I'd then switch the zip pocket on the insided to the other side so it wouldn't be in the way. I love the "accordian" style pockets - I want to try that on my next bag. Thank you for the great tutorial and inspiration!!

I LOVE this bag, but I want to make a bag to fit my laptop. How hard do you think it would be to resize it to about 2.5 inches wider? I plan on making the Eli Laptop Case for protection, so I just need this bag big enough to hold that. I'm thinking the accordion pocket will be the toughest part, but if I use the same lines, it would just make bigger pockets that would work. Am I missing anything?
