    I think some people missed the joke. Penelope and the other girls didn't run away from Pepe because they find him abusive, they ran away from him because he was a skunk and he smell bad and they were running away because they didn't want to get sprayed with his scent.

    • @mrreyes5004
      @mrreyes5004 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Exactly. This is proven by the fact that whenever Pepe _DOESN'T_ stink, then Penelope immediately thinks that he's hot again. Like in "For Scent-imental Reasons". Penelope spent that whole episode running from Pepe's stench... but when Pepe falls in paint that stops the stink, she's instantly smitten with him.

    Pepe never intends any harm. For the most part he's a lovable little guy, but he's just not that self aware. It never occurs to him that his advances are mostly unwanted. I always thought the joke was on him. I do not think he should be cancelled, no.

      I always thought Pepe didn’t even understand that, as a skunk- he stinks. Each time he actually learns the reason she runs from him, it kind of rattles every bit of his being. My favorite bit he faced off against a rival cat who was holding his breath, and he did this whole dramatic duel act where he actually LOST and didnt know nobody was paying attention (the cat finally couldn’t hold his breath anymore)
      He never actually considered his stink as a weapon, cause he doesn’t really know about it.

    I mean, he's a stalker at worst, but I wouldn't say rapist.

    • @theterrorofdimensions1326
      @theterrorofdimensions1326 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Exactly! Plus, even if that wasn't the case, if any of her reactions while running away are of any indication, I'm fairly certain that rape wasn't what was being promoted - Penelope was very clearly uncomfortable with a lot of Pepe's advances, usually bc of smell, but even if that wasn't the case, it still would have been obvious that she not having it.

    • @mrreyes5004
      @mrreyes5004 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@theterrorofdimensions1326 There's also the fact that Pepe is surprisingly loyal to Penelope. Like, the cartoon "For Scent-imental Reasons" when Penelope fell into a barrel of water that made Pepe mistake her for another cat while Pepe fell into a vat of blue paint that masked his smell is a good example.
      Even though Penelope was now acting super into Pepe, Pepe actually ran away from her advances because Penelope's waterlogged appearance made Pepe mistake Penelope as a different woman than the girl who he had been chasing after. In Pepe's mind, he had already fallen for another lady (Penelope) and was therefore "taken" even if a second woman tried to throw herself at him. Meaning that he was already too loyal to Penelope to even consider cheating on her with anyone else, even if they acted more attracted to him than the Penelope he recognized.

    Have to admit... he did not deserve to be cancelled.. Heck Bugs was far worse when you think about it, making people hold notes for longer than they should "no time to breath", attempted murders, etc.
    Compared to most of the characters.. Pepe was very tame. Just a guy who wants to be loved, who's story is basically a person who is nose blind to their own scent, whose never showered.
    Penelope saw him as a dreamboat, but the SMELL was what attacked her. He never did, instead he wanted to treat her with respect.
    He was the perfect material for a romantic relationship.
    If anything, they could have just changed his character like others before..
    Like.. Hmm... Make him different from other skunks... An outcast, possibly being the ONLY skunk without a bad smell.
    Which results in his own SPECIES to shun him, no skunks love him, etc.
    Then they could turn him into a new character, maybe as a WB symbol against discrimination for example.

    I hate cancel culture, just because you don't get it 😒 doesn't mean it's bad. Don't confuse a overly confident character who simps hardly for someone else, he is just looking for love and unaware of why she keeps running away.And most of the times he would succeed if he didn't smell so bad and he would love anyone as long as they are willing to love him back they just run from his smell and constantly random pop-goes the weasel cartoony behavior that frightens them at first. If anything the show is giving relationship advice: keep good hygiene, be attentive and loving and maybe you'll get the girl. Because he really only has 2 character flaws :his smell and he likes to make the first move.

    *@Anonboy* A hundred Thank You's for sharing this upload across TH-cam! The more people buy his DVDs & upload & share their videos the more we, the general public, are keeping Pepé Le Pew & Penelope Pussycat alive & well across America. That improved publicity & coverage also extends internationally, too, of course
    Youre absolutely right about characters that keep us laughing & having fun. _Pepe Le Pew_ is a *_family_* show, afterall, made for children *_AND_* adults. There are a number of things that really stand out about Pepé & Penelope, though, that make them unlike any other cartoon series of Chuck Jones' making. In a word, that is *_emotion._* Notice you never see Bugs Bunny, Yosemite Sam, & Foghorn Leghorn ever cry. They hardly ever act disappointed; never once have I seen them blue. And I mean _profoundly_ sad. But just take a little time to look more closely at Pepé & Penelope... the whole gamut of human emotions are well represented by those two. At one point she's so heartbroken for loving him but, being unable to remove the only obstacle between them (his stink) she nearly commits suicide. So, humorous, yes, but this show is also very true to life in it's own artful way
    Pepé & Penelope are the very best of Chuck Jones' key animation. They are also the embodiment of the love lives of his writers: Being out of love; loneliness; despair; the exquisite joy & thrill of finding someone who loves you & needs you just as much; etc. I've been watching Looney Tunes for 40 years now. And that's no detraction at all, to any other series in the LT archive. This is simply their finest work
    Yes, it is a love story that gradually unfolds across these _Pepe Le Pew_ episodes. And it's heartwarming to see how, after her initial shock of 'A *skunk* is in love with me?!?! But I'm a *CAT! !'* because of Pepé's persistance Penelope's resistance wears down to having receptiveness toward him. Until his odor catches up with her nose, of course. Then it's back to running away! Pepé never seems to realize he stinks & that's why his girl keeps running away. However, she knows through the entire series that he's a skunk, & she eventually begins to love & to accept him, despite this. But what to do about his odor?
    Pepé is annoying at times. But what a super sweet love story! *I'm* in love with Penelope, too. Pepé's not the only one! May Pepé & Penelope remain with us always 💜💙💚❤

    this is exactly my point, Pepe was never ever sexual harrassment nor the R word, he was more of a silly symbol of what not to do to get love, he was just comedy, now of course there were times where he went iffy like with the gun scene but it was never overboard or inappropriate, it was old comedy and comedy has changed of course but still, Pepe shouldn't have been cancelled and there have been times where Penelope Pussycat loved him even knowing he's a skunk, like that episode that ended with the 2 swapping scents for eachother, Pepe deodorized and Penelope went to a stinky cheese factory and got stinky, so there, he's not evil, he's just misunderstood
