I used to skydive in the 90s - general stuff 4-ways, 8-ways and a bit of free-fly and tiny bit of CRW. We never had swoop ponds - lots of accidents with hook turns before people figured out front risers. Anyway question - in these swoop comps what is the criteria for winning, is it who swoops the furthest? Definitely safer then the turf surfing I used to do on my old stiletto.

The conditions for winning vary based on the event:
Some events are based on distance. Others on speed achieved through the gates. Some events are just based on how sexy the competitors are. It's an amazing sport. ^^

Nice skills, but (without criticising the sport) why the heck would you do this super dangerous sport ? If you like swooping, why not go speed flying ? The wings are a lot more stable

How do these canopies open without pilot chutes?

Detachable pilot chutes. Look at their pants, those are specific swoop pants with large pockets to store detachable items such as pilot chute and slider. Standard practice when first opening is to detach slider, detach pc, open chest belt, fly in brakes (depends) to first coordinates.
