I suppose as time goes on you will no doubt come across quite a few bikes that need a lot of time and innovative ideas to get them back on the road. That must be so frustrating for you. Regarding the original head - was there a manufacturing fault that was subjected to a workaround or did someone butcher it many years later? Either way you spent time and money on something that was never going to be "right". Is it possible to fix the alignment of the valve guide or is the scrap bin it's last resting place.

£60 for an ali bronze valve guide? Shocking. I had 49 years on the lathe and could have done you one for a fiver.
