Last May I started following your advice about turning into a pumpkin every evening, and I've read more books this year than any year before, and I'd like to thank you for that, Steve. It's the first time in my life I've felt that my desire to read more and my actual reading have matched up, and I'm totally happy with how many books I've read this year. Also, I have been afraid to tell people how many books I've read because I feel like most people won't believe me
I’ve been doing the same since I moved back to the country from a large city during the early days of the pandemic. I treasure my reading time, but will gladly throw my book in the fireplace if someone contacts me before dinner and wants to get together that evening. 😂 After all, I’m too young to be a hermit! 😺✌️
@@ShepherdoftheForest3018 Almost every night around 8:30 I go into a room without any tv or computer, I put my phone on silent, and I read until bedtime. Steve calls it "turning into a pumpkin". I get in about two hours of reading a night. It was hard at first because I had to give up other things, but it's been worth it. I used to try to read with too many distractions and never managed to read as much as I wanted to
I'm a slow reader and do wish I could read and comprehend better and faster. However, I don't dislike the fact that others can do better than I. I really do envy you Steve but certainly hold no ill will. Thankfully, I haven't come across any of these naysayers that you have mentioned.
Steve, you cut through the BS so clearly that I am often amazed. You have adjusted my thinking so many times. This wasnt a personal struggle i was facing but anyone battling with this should heave a sigh of relief.
Hola Steve! Thank you for this video. I feel some consolation after your wise words. I read fewer books this years, but I read some! I give myself credit. The quality of one of them was transcendental. In the name of the Wind by Patrick Ruthfuss. Mind blowing fantasy. My family loved it and I am finally caught up! I started to love more my reading time after I started to watch your videos. Thanks again ❤
The day I stopped doing Goodreads goals/stats and putting so much pressure on myself, I felt free to enjoy my reading again, nobody to impress, including myself, as it should be.
According to Pew and the WaPo, the average number of books read by Americans in a year is 12, but the median is just four, and more than 40% of people read no books.
Thanks for the video Steve. I just did a little googling and it looks like about half of American adults report reading at least one book for pleasure in the past year. So, very much more than 1 million people!
I'm thrilled with my reading year. Over the past 4 years I have steadily increased my Goodreads goal as I find it easier and easier to hit. Reading is a muscle, as you've stated over the years. My only goal is to improve slightly year over year. The number itself doesn't motivate me. There is so much out there that I want to read with limited time on this planet, and the number will naturally follow suite. I am on 114 this year, which surpassed my goal of 100, so I am moving along at a great pace. Looking forward to 2025!
I might not read in triple digit amount of books but I'm fine with that. Everyone needs to realize that the numbers doesn't matter as long as you reading and that you shouldn't beat yourself up for that which I've learned in the past few years even though I've been reading for 10 years and have only read in the double digits but not more than 50 a year and once again I'm fine with that in the end. Love the video Steve.
Hi Steve, could I ask you for a recommendation on books about winter? I’m listening 😅 to Winter World by Bernd Heinrich to deal with my S.A.D. I’m also a painter and have been reading books on colour and how winter changes the quality of light, to help me see the season with more amicable eyes… Can you think of any other books I could delve into? I really enjoy nature writers like Rachel Carson, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Nan Shepherd.. ❤ Kind regards from England.
I only read about 75 books this year-- significantly fewer books than the average booktuber, and I'm fine with that. My yearly goal is always 36 books. Nothing wrong with only reading 3 books a month.
Been doing this for five years and still haven’t received my reading requirements for how many books I’m assigned to read in a year. Must have got lost in the mail
This whole reading competition nonsense is a first world problem. Most people don’t have time to read. It started out as a past time for the wealthy, and has largely remained so. 😺✌️

Elaborate, if you can.

I've never saw my reading as a competition. I just read for the enjoyment of a story. I'm in no rush to reach a certain reading goal before 2025. 😊
Head injury speed.... thanks Steve LOL
Hee - I kid, of course! I'm sure you're all doing your best!

Well, one of those nights. Excellent comment. Why I watch your videos. Thank you.

I read 3,000 books this year!

// Yes, if you mean by wealthy, those above the poverty line. 🥸

I don’t understand. Please elaborate. Thanks.
