  • Follow me along for a day in the life on the retina rotation as an ophthalmology resident. Hi my name is Zac, I'm an ophthalmology resident on the retina rotation as a 3rd year resident. Follow me along to watch a day in the life on the retina rotation- one of my favorite subspecialties in ophthalmology. If you're interested in ophthalmology or retina then check this video out. Today I do lasers for the eye including PRP and assisting with some retinal surgeries. Also working on developing a surgical instrument.

    Great video Zac, looking forward to the podcast! Should be really interesting!
    Can you make a video about your first surgery (with attending supervision and/or completely by yourself) - the case, nerves and emotions etc, and whatever else you'd like to share? I think that would super interesting for med students who are nervous about picking a surgical specialty and anyone else interested! Thanks so much man, awesome content as always!

      It's a great idea. I do have one of my first surgical videos and it is actually posted on cataract coaches youtube page where he reveiws it. But yes I think i'll likely make a video going over that. Cheers.

    I have a question, Dr. Eyeball, about blob and interblob cells. Since the blobs process color and color discrimination, I can tell a yellow banana from a red apple?
    Since some interblobs have a preference for movement in a certain direction, and since some have a preference for location, while other interblobs don’t, it would mean seeing someone jump up and down, or wave to a friend, or point to a dog across the street -all these movements are detected by different interblob cells in V1.
    Thank you

    Do you think its socially acceptable for an opthalmic surgeon to wear glasses yet perfom eye surgeries on patients or will they be questioned every single day at work as to why they wear glasses and avoid any kind of surgery to cure their own sight defect? I wear glasses but I'm considering specializing in this field. I have some underlying fears

    That happens with diabetics in the UK too. They just miss appointment after appointment and then turn up blind, one day, in one eye to their optician or doctor and behave like it’s our fault.

    Hi Dr Zach! What precautions are you guys taking for conducting surgeries during the covid pandemic! Some tips would really help with running our ophthal practice more safely! From India!

    Hi Dr.Eyeball! Can you give us some tips on studying for OKAPs? How much time should we put aside for it? Do you know of any ophthalmology video lectures or online courses?
    Thanks a lot, your videos are very very interesting and helpful :)

    • @doctoreyeballmd7493
      @doctoreyeballmd7493  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not the best person to ask about studying for OKAPs. My personal take is that they are great at preparing you for boards but their usefulness to clinical practice is lacking. I think it's a somewhat poor test of clinical reasoning skills and a poor measure of knowledge of useful / usable information. That said they are important for preparing you for boards- most people I know start preparing around November for them, but it's never too early to just do the q banks from the beginning of the year.

    Hello Dr.eyeball , as you are an ophthalmologist why don't you undergone LASIK instead of spectacles , as I am a junior resident in ophthal with glasses too ,jst need to know what made you to stick with glasses ? That may help us

    • @doctoreyeballmd7493
      @doctoreyeballmd7493  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's a fair question. i've worn them my whole life so am used to them. and although lasik is exceedingly safe and successful the infinitely small chance of something going wrong could jeopardize my career and so I haven't done it. also i'm a high myope and would potentially need touch up or still need CTLs, plus i don't mind wearing glasses.

    Doctor I want to ask about how many publications do an img needs to match into ophthalmology

    • @doctoreyeballmd7493
      @doctoreyeballmd7493  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there's no set number of publications that will get you into ophthalmology for IMG or US grads. That said it is more competitive for IMGs to match and so the more research and publications you have the more competitive you'll be. I personally had one publication in JAMA ophtho prior to applying, for what that's worth. Hope that helps :)
