    I'm down with covid, found your channel and binged on it big time yesterday. I have a fledgling carpentry YT channel, and reflect my faith through my work like you. I have seen the entire Chosen series and it's well done. I built an authentic cross for my church a few years back but used power tools. (I will have to try it again without.) I so admire your work and commitment to faith and family. I will watch many more. God bless you!

    Big fan of The Chosen, they have done such a great job of giving depth and context to the Message of the Gospel. Hopefully it will touch many hearts. Your work on the table is wonderful and I look forward to seeing in the series. I showed my wife your intro so she will know what I'm talking about when I point it out in show. God bless you and yours.

    Congratulations on being commissioned to build this table. It’s hard to get in my head the aspect of 1rst Century Furniture. As a Christian, and retired wood worker I have often thought of Saint Joseph and Jesus working with wood, and here “we” are working with wood. As you say, Jesus is a historical Figure. He lived, worked, Loved, and taught. Now you are doing the same. Thank You.

    Such a amazing build . When you talked about how you used your grandad's brace bits it made me think about how I inherited my great grandad's tools (which are all around 100+ years old from England) and how I wish I could have found the original bits for his brace. But I still count my self lucky for inheriting his tools, Because I ended up with pretty much all the tools I need to get started in hand tool Woodworking. I just have to restore them to working order. Thank you for showing the process of this build I'm thinking about building a smaller version of these for my girlfriend and I's apartment as a dining table

    Forgot to mention that, even though I had heard about the Chosen before, I had never watched it (maybe because I expected it to be cheesy like you mentioned some Christian shows can be), but my wife and I started watching it based on your recommendation. Then I got my family to watch it too. Such a great show. We were laughing one minute, and on the verge of tears the next. It brings the stories of the NT to life in a way that doesn’t happen when you read them. Thanks Andy.

    We had to do most of these techniques at college as apprentice joiners at the time we all thought it was pointless and redundant with power tools and such but as I get older I appreciate it a lot more and glad that my dad kept me focused on hand tool work at that point in my career

    Nice work, I really like the old traditional rough hewn look on furniture.
    I recently made an old fashioned trencher for a friend to put french sticks in for barbecues, I wanted an easier way to get the hewn look as the grain was all over the place and a gouge didn't work well. The solution was to grind out the centre of a 19mn ring spanner (box wrench), cut the open end off and ground the outside to make it sharp after heating and bending the box to about 60°, epoxied a strong olive wood handle to the shank.
    It gave me more control than a gouge and seemed to take less effort.
    After seeing your trestles, I want to have a go at a hewn table.

    14:40 they might have had a router plain back then if you bear in mind that a basic one is a block of wood with a hole drilled through at an angle and a chisel hammered through it to the correct depth. They had all of the ingredients to make one and if he could make a lock and key he could have made a router plane 😊👍

    By hand yes, but probably more card scrapers and cutting stones or stones also cutting chippers or irons used for cutting wood fibers.
    Your right what were the tools used 2k years ago, that would make a good TV show in and of itself how tools progress over time and how its changed the way we do things. For as far back in history we can find not just wood but metal and stone work too. Any kind of tool.

  • @Momoka7
    @Momoka7 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    15:05 To that carving, you need to carve with the woodgrain... and use a really sharp chisel and/or knife. Then work away in tiny steps. The way you do here gives you allot more work then need to be. Without sandpaper they would use sharp knives and scrapers... which DOES leave a very nice texture.
    You did the foot part more like I mean.

    You could have clamped down a straight edge on your lines for the tenons. Maybe that would have made it easier to keep the saw plate from bending.
