Thank-you for sharing your heinous crime together with your coping tools for facing the abyss - eg tea plus marmalade and cheese untoasted sandwiches... I brought an friend of mine who suffers greatly from Anglophilia who almost lost his Ethiopian coffee watching your explanation of the battery disaster... You kicked his day off to a glorious start, and he did not even see the part about the batteries... So I owe you, and so does he, but such obligations find no home on his oily back, yet run fairly harmlessly off onto whatever avails... So thanks again - geo
I really enjoyed this, inspiring. I'm hoping to get a Mirror on the water for some cruising in the spring. Thank you for posting and bringing us along on your adventures.
Hello Joe. Take a look at videos on my channel. Plenty of sailing there. Download one of the playlists. I built arwen myself in our garage. We have a blog www.arwensmeanderings.blogspot.co.uk which details the build and sailing adventures in arwen
It's worth noting that the bottom has dropped out of the Salcombe yawl market, and good yawls can now be had for a great deal less than £20,000, so go for it. Buy a classic beauty. They are wonderful family daysailors.
@@plymouthwelshboy Indeed you have Arwen and it is clear that you love her! My comment was meant more for your readers looking to purchase a pretty daysailor. Good Salcombe yawls can be had for well under £10,000 at present which is astonishing given their build cost and resale values 5 years ago. I have my Swallow Bayraider so I declined the Salcombe yawl as I currently prefer the lighter boat and the advantage of her ability to sail with water ballast in heavy air and without it light winds. Merry Christmas to you too!
Thanks for the interesting video. I own a Hunter 340, but going on a cruise in an open dinghy sounds and looks very tempting to me! Two remarks: Perhaps it would be a good idea to use a pop filter on your microphone. They are not very expensive devices and they greatly improve the sound quality. And, your sail somehow doesn't look right with all those folds and creases. Is it from a sailmaker?
Hi Nele. The microphone is a lavaliere mic and unfortunately it lost its little foam wind muff during the day and I also placed it inside one of my coats so it caught lots of rustling noise. The sail creases - some are from the way I furl it. the throat to clew crease is due to my poor sail trimming skills. there may also be a slight issue in that the sail maker didn't put in full sized battens when he built the sail, putting in only half sized ones and I suspect that is also an issue - his argument was that it would be easier to manage and furl with half sized ones and being new to sailing I went with his advice at the time as they were very experienced sail makers. since altering the downhaul tackle, the crease, which used to be very prominent has now almost disappeared. believe me it used to be much worse. adjusting the snotter attachment position has also helped .
Hi mirror cruising. Some of the east portlemouth beaches are private and so no you can't. However, there are many places where you can anchor or dry out in creeks. Po toon wise, the pontoons at town centre....only one takes overnight as I remember and there is a hefty price. The pontoons way up the creeks....I have overnighted on them. At kinsbridge u have to book a space. Download the harbour guide from Salcombe harbour office website....it has all the details in there
I had plenty of spare batteries. I just forgot to change them over before setting off again. First time it's ever happened. Must be getting senile in my mid age 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Agree with comment on the sound spoils great footage
Yeah you live and learn. Things have significantly improved since 😄

Would love to hear more about your beautiful Navigator. Did you build it? Any shots of you sailing would be much appreciated. Keep up the good work.

Do you know the legalities of Salcombe beaches - landing and anchoring overnight etc. Is the pontoon you show OK for an overnight stop? Many thanks.

Would someone tell Devon yawl number 74 that his Union Jack is upside down or is he in distress!
Sadly can't help you on that one 🤣
In full view of the yacht club!
@@stevechapman5062 sacrilegious really 🤣
It’s not on a jackstaff, so it’s not a jack; it’s a flag.
And he shouldn’t be flying it anyway.
In that position it should be a red ensign.
No batteries? Ooooh .......... What do you do with a forgetful sailor? What do you do with a forgetful sailor early in the morning?
