Something that is really helping me is, what fingers to use, I still can not do the fast part of Seek and destroy rhythm part, it just seems that I worked so hard on alternate picking and now I am doing all down strokes, drives me nuts, but I am starting to feel the freedom here. it is really helping me to watch your videos, I like your style, everything I need to know and not a bunch of stuff I could give a you know what about, I just want to play I don't care so much what the name of the note is, I just want to ROCK!! Like you say it is in the tab I don't need to beat it to death, ok you don't say that lol.
I'm struggling with the upstrums in the verse, where it's down down then up and then dead chuck. I've been practicing guitar for a year now so still very much new to it all. But the upstrum part in this song is driving me crazy. The pick seems to keep coming loose in my hands, but if I grip tighter, it feels like I'm slamming the pick into the strings on the upstrums and it sounds awful. What's the secret to being better at the upstrums?
This is not an uncommon problem. I would suggest A) practice the part slowly to a metronome and build speed as it gets comfortable. B) create an exercise that focuses on the problem area that is even more challenging then the part and again build speed with a metronome or drum machine. Bottom line though, just keep playing. It will become smoother over time. I know it's hard not to get frustrated but a couple of months from now you'll be laughing. 🤘🍻🎸
the chorus shawn does kind of a F chord not power chords maybe its different to accomodate a electric guitar but he just put out a acoustic version and he clearly has his index finger barring a whole fret where he transitions between that then to a power chord and then a simple E, either way pretty cool stuff
Yes I agree. Shawn plays it differently live then I show it. I believe he's simplified the parts for himself. Not as much jumping around the way he plays it. Acoustically he plays bigger chords such as a full D to fill up the sound since without distortion it can handle it and sounds good. I tried to stick to what's on the album but I should have talked about how they play it live. Less confusion that way. Thanks for watching man!
@@TimHolman yeah actually i just came from that video and i was learning the 2nd guitar portion of it cause i was playing it wrong your doing it correct so i did learn that part. there isnt that many videos i think that show the 2nd guitar part and this one transitions to shawn too fast to see his hands but i noticed his hand isnt doing what i was doing it was doing what your doing. thanks
