  • As GTA Online shifts more into solo oriented content, it worries me that the multiplayer experience of the online game is being left behind. In this video I discuss what I feel are the reasons behind the drive for solo content in the game and a few suggestions to remedy the multiplayer experience.

Another thing is that many players are lonely (like me :c ) and as a result, have to rely on randoms to do, for example, the original heists, or a large sale mission, which is simply an unfun task. Thus having the option to play and do things without requiring other players (players who will intentionally crash the prison break plane or leave randomly or dump your cargo sale vehicle into the ocean) does make doing those missions both easier and more fun for those people.

I think they should have lobbiea that are non PVP, so everyone is in a godmode state, allowing players to shoot at NPCs and do the normal activities in a normal lobby.
You can still die to normal NPCs, but you can not kill other players, only NPCs.
This would be a huge undertaking, but i think it'll be positive for the social aspect to gta online, car meets, or just meetinf new people to team up with, kinda like the GTA RP stuff.
Just have an option for players who want a more chill experience, while not being left out in invite only lobbies.

*Antisocial* ,is the only word that comes to mind when I happen to land in a public lobby on accident. Legitimately takes minutes before you're being harassed, killed by someone abusing exploits, or straight up taken out of what you're doing to be teleported to a hacker or some dumb shit. It's not an online game anymore, Rockstar have given the keys to anyone who wants to exploit the game for their *mindless* "entertainment"

    • @JedForge

Yep and the griefer mentality is such that no penalty is going to dissuade them. As long as there is a chance of being griefed, I will stick to solo play. Griefers are "people" I don't want to interact with in my R&R time either in game or IRL. I personally think that one nice thing about making so much solo-able is that it does save them dev costs from making single player story DLC's (though to be clear, I'd rather have the DLC's like in GTA IV).

I haven’t wanted to play in public sessions for years, I remember doing the test nat glitch back in 2016 and before that mission glitches just to play solo or with friends so I wouldn’t be bothered. It’s definitely an issue that’s only gotten worse with time. Clearly R* themselves know as the last 2 major updates have included solo play or anti griefing features
Which is a big 180 after they patched those above glitches to get ppl to play with others
I think they’ve conceded with balancing the game at this point and are just trying to make playing less annoying. Hopefully in the next installment they’ll take lessons learned and won’t gradually ruin the experience with bs weapons and vehicles, hopefully

The way I've seen things, having certain features being public only was such a roadblock for money making as someone who doesn't have many friends online all the time. On the rare occasion, I'll have enough people in a group to do a classic heist. Lots of the people defending this public session only activities usually have a group with them to prevent them from getting ganged up on.

I like the idea of a shared world but i do not want to interact with them, so personally i like when the option is there to do things on my own. My pace, my terms, my rules. Most other players you see can barely press buttons without failing anything spectacularily and that is obviously before mentionning the griefers doing it on purpose.

  • @MrEmoRaccoon
    @MrEmoRaccoon ปีที่แล้ว +45

Hopefully, keyword hopefully, there is a good balance between solo and group play in the next GTA game. Minus the money benefits, there is unfortunately very little to motivate players to play together unless there is a forced player limit, eX the original heists. I don’t know what Rockstar would do for the next GTA Online experience but hopefully they’ve learned after almost 10 years of this games life cycle.

  • @DonVecta
    @DonVecta ปีที่แล้ว +9

I avoid public lobbies like the AIDS. Besides all the regular griefing, the dangerous exploits and bugs that rendered the game too risky (like when they altered your account) was a shitfest. So, yeah, I do my grinding solo. Luckily have a few friends who we get to play together sometimes for some heists or other jobs, but not so often.

  • @CreamMonarch

Public freemode sucks because griefers are given way to much power through unfixed bugs, exploits, cheats or straight up broken tools and vehicles.

  • @BornInOz
    @BornInOz ปีที่แล้ว +5

100% agree with pretty much everything in this video. 100%. I'd add that another reason why the sell missions are so unbalanced is that the attackers have no skin in the game, meaning they are risking literally nothing when they attack someone else's product. The seller, on the other hand, is risking hours of production. Furthermore, the attackers can try again and again - it doesn't matter how many times they fail, all they have to do is succeed once, whereas if the sellers fail once, they lose. Attackers should have to put up some collateral equal to the value of the product being sold. If the attackers are killed, the seller gets the collateral as a bonus, and the attackers don't get to try again.

Your points are the most valid I’ve ever met for a gta TH-camr. The amount of god mode glitches and exploits make the game unplayable. Just last night I ran into 5 players in different sessions in god mode or in god mode vehicles. Then there was someone doing an off radar glitch that’s even worse. I enjoy playing a multiplayer game and taking on players in pvp combat, but not when they have to use an exploit because they wanted to win. I’ve never resorted to glitches until the Cab Co. glitch was popular and first started. But that was only because EVERYONE was doing it and it was impossible to play or do anything. Rockstar really is going down hill with their support and updates.

  • @skunclep1938
    @skunclep1938 ปีที่แล้ว +17

Although I like your ideas for events & sell missions, the sad truth is that the community is toxic, and will always find a way to grief in a freemode session. Sending them to bad sport lobbies doesn’t work; it’s easy to set up multiple accounts.
We need a stronger deterrent. For example, if you blow up someone’s cargo then you instantly get a $100k bounty (which comes from your account, plus 10k tax for Rockstar), are set in a PvP mode which means you cannot attack any other players or leave the session for 5 minutes, and you’re blip is highlighted to the entire lobby by using a flashing red troll icon. The bounty is rewarded to every player that kills the griefer during that 5 minute period. If you don’t have enough money for the bounty, your bank account will remain at $0 and you will be set in passive mode (after completing probation) until you’ve earned it back. This would have to be done in missions that don’t need you to be in a Crew or Organisation, as you’re still in passive mode probation. If you dashboard, then the rest of your 5 minutes on probation will recommence as soon as you join another session.
Also during the 5 minute probation, the griefer will not have access to any properties, so no more hiding from the fight or heist warping to the facility to use the Orb. Cannon.
Sure, they can still set up alternative accounts, but at least they’ll always run the risk of getting shat on by the entire lobby and potentially lose $2.5m in the process.
That said, Rockstar would need to make the sell missions much harder to compensate for the deterred griefers.

I posted this in the Gtamen video you mentioned, and I thought it was appropriate for your video as well.
It has to be a single player game now basically due to modders (PC)
As I am getting bored with GTA due to only being able to actually play the game in invite only sessions, I went online in a public lobby last night for the first time in over 1 year, wanting to meet some low level randoms and do some hesits with them.
In approx. 2 hours of game time
    - 3 times had to restart game as my screen froze (modder simply locked my game)
    - 3 times put into a cage so that they could kill all players
    - 2 times blown up continuously for over 1 minute (where the screen actually said that it was me causing it)
    - 4 different vehicles sent to Mors Mutual
    - many other instances e.g., getting killed by randoms.
This is why I play invite only sessions, as you have absolutely no control over this if in public lobby, and in this 2-hour period I had approx. 30 minutes of actual online gametime.
It's not Timmy on his flying bike that stops me playing 'onine' as you do have some control over Timmy's efforts...it's the modding that makes 'online' unplayable.
The game is dying, but it is due to modders not Rockstar.
Rockstar has not killed the 'online' game, it is all the vermin that are selling kids mod packs....some of those vermin being TH-camrs (they even advertise the Modder sites in the videos)
This is not a good thing as the game losses its addictiveness if you can't play with other players.
Basically, I think many players now log on for 2-3 weeks after a new DLC release and then leave the game until the next DLC is released, as you simply cannot play "ONLINE"
A challenge for you GhillieMaster (if you are PC based) - go online as a player that is not recognizable as you, don't take any of your crew or friends into the session....................record it and see what happens.....I am sure that it will explain why GTA Online is no longer a Multiplayer game.

More than once I get multiple delivery vehicles, I go back, and I see someone trying to get in one, they wanted to help but were unable to.

  • @vLethality

I agree with the fact thet the design is because of Rockstar's choice of these unbalanced missions and the way GTA Online Freemode works. However, I do feel like many of the players who do go after cargo are partially to blame, as they're not doing it for the reward obviously. But as we know, the design fosters this kind of playstyle for those players.
As for the rework, I would love to see that, but I can almost guarantee that it will not happen unless we can blow this issue up to the point where it can't be ingored, which is probably not gonna happen.

The only one of your suggestions I don't 100 percent agree with is players being able to steal other players products if they could hold on to it for a set amount of time. To an extent. Yes, if someone has a few friends to help them it's not a problem. But say a solo player gets their product stolen by a group of really skilled players then there's no chance that player is getting their stuff back. And I can certainly appreciate competition to make someone better at the game. But there's competition and then there's fighting impossible odds. But that's why I said to an extent. If you play solo and you know there's a chance of that happening then you have to make the decision to risk it or still just play in an invite only. There's so many things they could've done differently but all we can hope for is that they make the next game with some of this stuff in mind because I don't see them putting much more effort into making this one better.

I never understood why some individuals enjoy sabotaging other's heist by doing nothing, leaving, going AFK, and running you over with their vehicle (all playing card habbits of weak-minded individuals with no social skills). But yeah- I completely aggree with the option of playing the game solo. Hopefully we'll have this option in GTA6 UNLESS, like you said, RS improve the player interaction by repelling the toxic behavior in some ways (another resson why I abandoned RDO as well aside from the lack of updates even before their grim announcement last year).
    Thanks Ghillie. ✌🕶

The problem was the public lobbies were so toxic and sweaty to do ANY new content activity that was in free roam, how did rockstar fix this? did they fix the bad sport system? the non existence balance between cargo sellers and cargo destroyers? making public lobbies overral better? nope, they tackled it on another direction, make players be able to use inv only lobbies or solo lobbies to sell/organize/play the things they so much anounce in their game, and now that most nice and cool players are in inv only lobbies the cesspool of toxicity and sweat only got bigger in public lobbies

I feel things are heavily stacked against MC players:
    - Your vehicles have no armor (CEO sell vehicles even if in game are like wet tissue paper are usually given some ridiculous armor)
    - Your vehicles can be locked onto with homing missiles (CEO vehicles can not)
    - You have no way to hide your blip on the map (Off the radar does not hide your MC and CEO goods, only ghost organization does that)

Good video with very well made points. I think the issue is that the community is roughly made up of 60% grinders, 15% casual players with no affiliation, 10% PvPers and 15% car guys / racers. Griefers are around a 40% subset of the PvPers and casual players. So a small % of the community makes public sales a real problem. One solution would be to let people choose the type of lobby they want to go into - grinder lobby, car lobby, casual (anything goes) and PvP lobby. Let those people who want to fight other people have their own lobby. Let people who want to sell in peace with other players do the same thing. The people who want to destroy cargo are such an insignificant part of the player base but causing so many of the problems, who cares if they stop playing because they can no longer blow up cargo? In this Utopia, you can't join a grinder lobby and destroy product. I don't think grinders buy Shark Cards so it's not like they'd be losing money. Since the vast majority of players are peaceful in the worst case scenario Rock* would lose maybe 10% of the player base, the toxic part, so who really cares? The players they'd pick up along the way as a result of cleaning up the lobbies and sorting them by type would most likely offset the loss. I've got 5,500+ hours in the game, close to level 1000 and $1bn in cash made entirely in legitimate solo sales, heists and non Freemode missions. There's no incentive for me to go into Freemode and help a fellow grinder only to be blown up by a God-mode permanently off the radar jet. It's all $ and cents at the end of the day. They have a financial model that works and Take 2 is probably not that interested in player experience over the bottom line.

I Wanted to add something to hour free roam instead of pay ir alongside it you could get a pau bonus for your Next sell mission or heist finally (after you do either it reset), for example in the Deathmatch 1st place gets a 1.2x 2nd 1.15 3rd 1.1 , but they stack for everytime you do a free roam even up to 1.5x and to make it more atractive to do things like Cayo with a buddy or a random , the bonus combines for the total heist play up to a max of 2x.
I know this would need some tuning and stuff but i think it would be cool

the playerbase is too trigger happy and when the game has so many options to just ruin your day just because some asshole decides that he wants to kill you for no reason then it's pretty much pointless trying to even play in a public lobby no matter how many bonuses rockstar will offer to the sell missions.
i'd like to play in public lobbies more often but when it comes to doing businesses in them it's almost impossible without someone going after you and just like you said the game really puts the seller in a disadvantage with the types of missions that you're presented with.
i also like your solution and i'm pretty shocked that rockstar didnt think about this option themselves about prioritizing stealing rather than destroying the product from other people.
in vehicle I/E you can do that ,stealing someone's car and stashing it in your own vehicle warehouse.
why didn't they continue with that same idea I don't understand.
also unfortunately another aspect that you didn't mention is the fact that PC is pretty much unplayable with the dozen of toxic modders

Fighting to regain your cargo back is an interesting idea. Was thinking if the enemy succeeded, they only get 50% worth (since it’s stolen and the vehicle is probably not intact).
If the vehicle is destroyed, the enemy gets nothing (except 25% worth of the vehicle to pay).
If an ally “decides” to destroy on purpose or by accident, they pay 25% worth of the vehicle and the portion of the sale ( up to half, even if it is only one vehicle).
Good Roleplay. Great responsibility. Greater consequences. Greatest experience.

You bring up a point that I had when hey first started the solo lobby selling and started allowing more Solo play. I had not played the game much, I actually started only a year ago playing GTA. I noticed that the lobbies were just frustrating. (that is why I waited to play GTA - My first GTA Online experience years ago just made me not like the game at all). My goal at first was to make money to survive more than 5 minutes online, then I met my crew. My crew would be really good at cleaning out public sessions from griefers. The days would be, Crew finds a public server or start a public server with our crew, there were so many of us that we could vote to kick or just kill the griefers. Once we had a session, we would sell.. Sell and Sell... Public sessions would work like this, The first couple of sells would be quick and easy, no one would notice, then a Barcode would get in the lobby, blow up some product and then we would spend hours fighting the griefer. That whole experience is now gone. I feel that is why I started playing more and more but now, I hardly play at all. Reasons for this though are my Crew is on PS4 and my p24 broke, now I have a ps5. So I don't get to play much with my Crew anymore, so now I play with TH-camrs and actually, I am fine with that.

Good insight Ghille. I feel that selling in public lobbies should render a 2x payout plain and simple because as we all know it's a complete shit show 💩
Slow asf vehicles like the trash trucks and Boxvilles should either have at the very least Imani Tech vehicle armor or better yet Imani Tech itself 😁
Maybe we could choose from either one via the computer we use to sell product with. Or maybe hav either Imani Tech or Nightshark like armor but not both because then there would be literally no threat whatsoever from opponents which I think would take away from the thrill of selling in public lobbies. There has to be some element of danger to keep it exciting I feel. If you're more worried about missile related vehicles go with Imani Tech. If Lazers and Hydras make you shake in your boots (I think we all feel that way at least sometimes)
    then go with the armor.
Or another option would be let us sell with out own damn vehicles we pay a fortune for. Excluding some options like the Oppressors or jets because that would just be way too easy.
There is lots of directions we could go with this...🤔
But yeah in conclusion that's why I've been selling in Invite Only lobbies for over a year now since the option has became available because that extra little payout they offer for taking the chance of selling in public lobbies is not enough incentive to risk it in my eyes. Takes forever to grind in this game and that's even without getting griefed so it's all the more longer and more painful when you are getting griefed.
    Anyways Good video 👍

The only unbalanced thing is the MC business not having an option to put your MC fully ghost aswell as your cargos.
I constantly sell in public lobbies with NightClub supplies or Acid lab and hide the products by going Ghost ORG as CEO. I have never found troubles by doing so.
This should be applied to the MC aswell so you can find ways to counter griefers and sell in public lobbies aswell.

I've been treating GTA Online as more of "extra Single Player content from Rockstar to play occasionally until GTA VI comes out" ever since the Cayo Perico Heist update, playing it mostly by myself. Ironically, for being a multiplayer game, I've been enjoying the game A LOT MORE after I started doing this. I've played GTA Online for over 3000 hours both solo and with other players, hell I've dedicated my entire channel to mixing music for GTA. I simply love GTA V and GTA Online (despite it's big flaws). However, Rockstar isn't that good when it comes to designing a multiplayer game, also shown by the points presented in this video. Public lobbies were a joy to play on back in PS3. Yes, they were primitive and buggy but that simplicity was also part of the charm. Now public lobbies are a mess, cluttered with unbalanced aspects with a very toxic playerbase, with content that we've frankly played over and over and over and over, it's just dull now. GTA Online is almost 10 years old now, there's only so many times you can play it before you're just burned out of it. A new GTA game is long overdue by now.
The balancing is all over the place, making any PvP against other players just not fun anymore. Playing missions with random players is just a gamble whether you'll complete it or have a terrible time because your teammates just plain suck at the game. Rockstar's malicious greedy practices that started with the Executives update until the After Hours update-ish ruined most of the aspects of Freemode because they stacked the favors against you with terrible and dull mission design when it comes to sale missions. They've since kind of gone back on their greedy practices and most of the recent updates have been pretty good (minus Drug Wars which was Rockstar just having a laugh), but the damage is already done. You can't play Contact Missions anymore for some simple old school fun without some dingus on an Oppressor MK2 rushing to the objective (and blowing it up half the time).
Even without considering Freemode, joining jobs is a mess. GTA Online's matchmaking is one of the worst matchmaking systems I have ever seen, making it nearly impossible to join something worthwhile playing. Half the time you get stuck either in long loading or completely softlocked in stuck loading screens. The other half, you're just randomly disconnected. Compare it to something that's equally popular like CSGO. You hit "Join" and within about 15 seconds, you're in a match having a good time (mostly). GTA Online's strong point is that the gameplay is still "GTA", which is extremely addicting, but the multiplayer aspects are bottom of the barrel.
When I come home from work, I like to play something which'll help me relax a little, after all videogames are escapism from the real world. Why waste my time with all these multiplayer issues when I can play by myself and generally have a good time while doing so? It's that simple, I just want to have fun, not be frustrated.

WE as GTA community gotta accept some blame that we ruin the playing experience as well, not just point all ten finger to Rockstar. It's easier now and less playing time needed to get rich (out of game GTA $$ services) Then once players are comfortable with money, those players then just go around killing, not worrying about grinding. Yeah. Rockstar really did not think things through with the sell missions.
Like Ghille said, they should have made it where you can’t destroy cargo/products for a 2K bonus. Instead, if you can steal the vehicle with goods and bring it back to your business, you get some money immediately plus those goods are added to your stock to sell when you are ready. (This is exactly like the Vehicle Warehouse.) If you don’t own the business related to the product being stolen (or the business is full), you can then bring it to a third party that will give you a large sum of cash for the trouble.

Every time I have gone into a public lobby, I have been killed even though I am not doing anything remotely PvP related. I'm happy to stay in invite only lobbies. For me, the thoughts of having to go into a public lobby switches off aspects of the game. To me I see it like this, I enjoy online gaming and meeting others online that enjoy the same game I am at that time and maybe make friends. When it comes to GTA 5 I honestly hate doing online stuff, most players seem to be idiots or think they're Rambo and go in guns blazing and mess up missions that frustrate you because now when you need randoms to help you have a very little chance they'll know what they're doing and when you keep failing due to stupidity of others you just get annoyed. Sell missions just don't seem scaled to who's in the group like 1 person needs to run 3-4 vehicles most of the time and have a very limited time to do it and when you're doing one vehicle the others are free game to be destroyed and it feels like, "Welp that was a waste of my time." At the same time the player base is just SOOOO dang toxic as hell you so much as spawn in and your on someone's crap list. At the same time the content just doesn't feel worth it because here cones a jet, helicopter, MK2 or tank or anything else or even boom orbital cannon. What is the point then? I understand PvP is in the game and offered but not all of us wanna participate in it we just wanna make cash and have fun. But over all I'll stick to solo whenever I return to GTA seems better than dealing with toxic individuals who feel they're part of the top percent of the game they're playing but wanna cry when the tables are turned on them.

    1. Public freemode has become a toxic cesspool that just ruins the fun for a lot of people, i get there are people who love PVP but there should be a choice for people that just wants to play with other people on a PVE level without having to risk losing all of their progress.
    2. Combination of the life system, the fragile health/armor and the rapid fire bug has made any content with a life limit and randoms to be very annoying, its even worse for old heists as their preps are not even doable in freemode like Diamond, Cayo or even the Dr. Dre contract.
    3. A bit of extension to the previous point, the severe punishment when a player gets disconnected is another major reason why playing co-op is just undesirable. Like why is everyone getting booted off and has to do everything from the start again for something that is out of everyone's control

Unless you get the, Del Perro location, you don’t need to fire a single shot. Simply ride over it closely and it auto spawns on your character and boom, you’re out. Even in Del Perro. Just fire a few missiles in to kill the enemies, grab it and go.

i agree 100% with the vid. i used to be cool with doing groups, till i got tired of grinding and filling up CEO, bunker, mc, night club, etc. only to have a random mk 2 flying bike join and blow up my stuff and right after they would laugh and leave the session. it was sooo bad i actually stopped playing the game period. every blue moon one of my friends would say i got a empty session by myself you want to come help me get supplies and sell? so i was kinda at that point playing maybe once every 2 or 3 months. but when they added where we can sell solo... that's when i went back to once or twice a week, and that was up until they started doing business specials every week. after they did that where its helping at least one of my businesses every week, that's when i switched to playing at the very least 3 hours every day. and that was before the street dealers and acid dlc, which i now add to my routine. and yeah I'm open to more heist being added that you can do like the Cayo, where you can do it both solo or with a group. i mean we do the casino 2 man now, give me like a solo fleeca bank heist option, solo casino, something on a bigger scale then the stash houses, with a little bit of First Dose 2 Designated Driver part where you had a bag and stole the bikers weed. give me that and I'm good.

The only times I only ever go in into one is for Event Battles because of limited unlocks, same with heist preps of which I rarely ever do in forcing me into public sessions same with the limited event items. For me I'm a primarily strictly solo player, though that there are rare times I join players in invite only sessions or join mine, but it's only with those that I trust. I'm afraid players that are capable to cheat, exploit, grief, or hack public lobbies have completely ruined it all for me. So I'm glad Rockstar allows solo player experiences.

Current game is simply beyond repair at this point so only hope is the next online installment, that game needs to have dedicated servers and offer different session types like PvP, PvE, RP etc otherwise it will be DOA for me.

I come from work, just want to hop on and play. Solo saved the game for me

I actually prefer to play solo because I don't like people in general. In my work I have to deal with stupid people everyday so I just want to come home and have a chill session by myself. Maybe do a heist or activities with my friends in invite only sessions every now and then. Honestly I have never had the urge to interact with randoms , nor does the high demand bonus interest me in any way. I have enough money to last me 5 DLCs (likely more) I can literally count the number of times I sold in public sessions, with half of that me being griefed and proceeding to sell in solo sessions after the fact.
Plus the game runs like absolute ass on old gen in public sessions.

They made the RIGHT decision. Remember something very important, HUMAN BEHAVIOR. How many trolls, grifers and "bad" players you find every time you try a heist.

I actually like being able to play solo. “Playing” with others in a public lobby means it’s just a Fortnite free-for-all pvp and I hate Fortnite. Not to mention I play on PC and that means every public lobby is cancer filled with modders.

On pc we have been able to use a network monitor program to drop into public lobbies for years, I started about the time 'import export' garage came out...

Freemode events is not really what they need for players to play public more or do mission with others. What they need is some quality of life changes, remove op weapons like orb that players exploit, buff/nerf certain weapons, buff vehicles like helicopters etc, buff majority of the old Heists etc. also I think our characters health needs a buff it's ridiculous how easily they die, some npc's are now on par with players to how easily they can rip our characters to bits.

Remember 2013 when we were switching lobbies to find full lobbies because there was nothing to do? No look what public lobbies have turned into. We just need a "classic" gta online mode

I have paranoia when I play this game.
If I'm in a solo session, I'm chilling.
If I'm in a public session, if I see another player get even remotely near me, I'm on high alert, if they get any closer or if I have a clear like of sight to them, gun is in hand and I'm on defcon 1.
99% of player interactions I have with other players is NEVER good. It's getting blasted if I drive past them, blown up by a weaponized vehicle if I go in their general direction, having products blown up if I try to sell something, I've even been killed by people who were on the complete other side of the map who would come all the way over to me, just to kill me and then leave. Like why? I was in the other side of the map and you came all the way here just to kill me? Like get a life dude.
I think something they should do, and I've been saying it for years, as have others, they should rework the passive mode in gta5 and give us the defensive/offensive mode from red dead 2. That would massively change of the pvp in the game, in a real good way, I think
