This was a real eye opener. Thanks for revealing a part of Abu Dhabi that is rarely marketed for travellers. And, as others have noted, I too have used university and hospital cafs around the world as reliable (as in good quality, inexpensive and varied choices) eateries. Safe travels guys!
Hello Mac Cat. It's great to hear from you, and thank you for your lovely comment 🙏😊 We really enjoyed exploring Masdar City, which is why we wanted to share it as a Frugal Travel destination... and also our amazing value meal at the canteen! It's excellent to discover that other people have made similar great value discoveries! ~ Mandy 😁😀
WOW! Masdar city is beautiful and impressive. The temperature is hot in the winter in Abu Dhabi. The robot taxi is cute and I agree it is a futuristic transport. The lunch looks good and affordable. As always, thank you for the tips and sharing your experience. This is the best frugal travel channel!
Thank you Sue. Lovely to hear you enjoyed this one. Masdar was really interesting to visit and a bit out of the ordinary of the usual tourist sites there. Emirates was really a nice winter destination and it will be interesting for us to see when we return mid summer to house sit there again how tough it will be in the heat of summer. 😳 👍 ~ Lee
Hi Leslee. I'm so glad we've been an influence for the good. ☺️. Tbh it was never high on my list either but house sitting took us there and we were pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed the experience. The whole region is really fascinating. 😊 ~ Lee
Hello Cindy! It's always so lovely to hear from you. We're happy that you enjoyed this video, and our excellent value meal at the university canteen! ~ Mandy 😁😀
Really enjoying your vlogs, found you as from July, Wizz Air are flying to Abu Dhabi from Cyprus (where I live) for 80 euros return. So planning our summer break. You have shown me loads I never though of.
Hello Alison. Thank you so much for your lovely comment - it's always wonderful to hear such great feedback from new viewers, and we're so happy that our videos are proving helpful. We're actually looking at flying the other way in August, from Abu Dhabi to Cyprus, but it's going to cost around €60 one way, so you found a great bargain! The UAE will be pretty hot in summer! 1 I think it's a great winter destination as the temperatures are still good, so it will be interesting to see just how hot it gets when in summer. We hope you have a great time! ~ Mandy 😀😁
Hi Mandy and Lee. I have booked accommodation in Masdar city for 3 weeks in November 2024. But seeing it so empty makes me worried. Are there many people living there, going to the coffee shops etc? What about grocery shops? Any other info you have would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Linda. We were in Abu Dhabi in December/January, when the university was closed, which is why it might have been so quiet. There is a good bus connection to go to other places, if you check out the Abu Dhabi videos on our UAE playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLCmNbKU5iMrldLG5hm-8BxeVJMOgUO6-M.html&si=hv6HxSIumbTjTwk4 We were staying a short walk from Masdar City, and took the free bus to there back from Yas Island. I hope our other vlogs will prove helpful.
Hi Mandy and Lee Loved this video! Terry and I have visited Masdar city but unfortunately I don’t think the driverless cars are available on weekends or at least the day we were there. Will now have to go back to check them out and check out the university canteen. We ate at a pizza place where your food was delivered by a robot resembling a cat. 😂
Wow! A robot resembling a cat! I think I've heard it all now. 😆😆. It certainly was a fascinating place. I'm not sure I'm quite ready for the future yet. 🤣 ~ Lee
Thanks for sharing your experience in Masdar City. It will be on my bucket list. Is the university free to visit or did you guys need permission to enter?
We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed this video. The university is part of Masdar City, and we wandered around the areas that were open to the public.
Just went there with my wife. I guess we came at the wrong time. It was so hot until my wife almost got heat stroke. Their PRT was also under maintenance. As per the security, maintenance will be done in October only 😅 So I guess I will come back in November-December
This was so interesting. The ingenious ways to make life more comfortable. I know that I am jumping ahead but I am in discussion with friends about whether areas of Saudi can be explored on a budget. Do you think it's possible?
Hello Julie. It's always so lovely to hear from you. Re: budget travel in Saudi Arabia, accommodation will be the biggest expense as it's not yet set up with hostels etc. We'll have quite a few videos coming of our travels there, which will hopefully prove informative & interesting to you 😀😁 ~ Mandy
@@FrugalTravellers Just deliberating booking a trip there. Would be amazing. If you can do it, I may well go for it! What was the average accommodation price please?
@@julieeggleton9743 We had an amazing time there, but as you'll see it isn't as well developed for tourism as other places. It's best to check one of the accommodation booking websites for prices as they can vary greatly. ~ Mandy
It must be a sponsored video! To put it mildly, there were no other people in the video besides the two "tenants", and according to official sources, the city has failed, leaving less than 300 people behind. Shame on you two. Where is your integrity?
I hope that this city eventually becomes filled with residents and really thrives.
We agree, moosefactory133 😃😁

The full city is depends on Solar Energy what do they do when winter come?
That's a great question! I think solar power is only one part of the energy supply.

Can anyone eat at the canteen? Or they check something?
We ate there 3 times and were never asked to show any form of ID, and there weren't any signs up indicating it was only for the university.
Hey, I liked the video. If you come to Abu Dhabi, you must tell me so that I can offer you Arabic hospitality❤❤❤❤

What's a 'bane marie'?
It's one of those commercial food warmer thingies that keeps the food hot for hours in buffets and cafés.

Actually very unecologic place. With nobody and no history. I would Never waste my time visiting this cringe place...
We found it fascinating. 😂😂
