That opening scene was such a great parody of the real, frightening, voice-over anti-piracy bits that were on every VHS tape or DVD... at least in UK, Ireland anyhow. And on the DVD you couldn't even fast forward past it.

There was a real German guy called Armin Meiwes who advertised for someone to come and be eaten. A guy answered the add, and was duly killed. Armin was (oddly enough_) a computer repair technician. The German Metal band Rammstein did a song about it, and on stage one band member (the keyboard player ) gets in a giant couldron while the singer blasts it with a flame thrower. Great stuff to watch.

Richard Ayoade is such a funny guy, anything with him is worth seeing. His "real" personality is probably as socially awkward as Moss, but more knowing and dryly witty.
He presented a travel show called Travel Man, where he went on city breaks with other comedians and actors, which is great. The chemistry with some of them is fantastic - my favourite was the amazing Bob Mortimer, who he visited Hamburg with.

Context for 'there's somebody at the door!'
    th-cam.com/video/I4xJvxSZ9aI/w-d-xo.html
Rod Hull and his hyperaggressive emu puppet (Rod and Emu), big in the UK in the 70s and 80s! Children's entertainer but also popular when he went on chat shows and manhandled the hosts via the bit of blue and orange cloth on his arm. Here's one of the more famous moments, when he had a go at veteran interviewer Michael Parkinson.

Andrew Brooke (the cop) is indeed in After life. He's also in the Inbeteeners as the barman in the first episode. He has a small role in the Tom Cruise movie The Mummy amongst other things.
He's best known for his role in PhoneShop, where he is one of the main characters. It's made by the same company as the IT Crowd and Father Ted and is equally bonkers.
It is set and recorded in the corner of London I lived in for ten years. It captures perfectly, the multi ethnic, "street" culture which pervades that part of town. It's hilarious, I love it.

@@stingersplash I think having lived there, I could get beyond the first episode. Like so many of these shows, as it went on and the 2d charicatures fleshed out, it became more relatable and funny.
      It's all subjective. One man's Dad's Army is another man's Q.
