For those who do not like the darker element presented in this trailer, remember the original film was based on the first book. And the book is dark, creepy and has many elements of horror. (At that time it would have been much, compared to today.) However, it was the film’s adaptation that made the story into a light, musical fantasy. Because the film is many people’s first introduction to the story is why they would think the story was a wholesome family oriented type fantasy. It was not. The original books are a 13 book series. Growing up I read them all. So much was changed in the movie. (For example: The Great and Powerful Oz was a shapeshifter who appeared to Dorothy as a head with no body, to Tin Man as a horrific beast, to Lion as a ball of fire and to Scarecrow as a beautiful lady. And in the books, the shoes were silver, not ruby. There is a lot of dark wizardry in the books. The books caused a lot of controversy at the time and in fact, some groups managed to get the books banned and pulled from libraries in some cities. Anyway, it’s been a while, but from the way I remember the stories, this movie would fall right in line with the original stories of the book series. I am looking forward to seeing it. Check out the movie, “Return to Oz” based on the second book that is more true to Frank L. Baum’s original stories. But I still love the musical with Judy Garland. It is one of my all time favorite movies.

I really like this take. The original Oz could be absolutely creepy and sometimes plain horrifying. It was a faerie land, ruled by faeries. The Fair Folk in traditional tales could be extremely hostile, and their lands alien, even eldritch. Nobody in Oz died - even when they were torn to pieces - but they could be destroyed by being eaten or through magic. And traditionally, those humans unfortunate enough to be lured into the fey lands either never were seen again, or came back *wrong.* As long as Dorothy stayed in Oz, she never aged, never grew up and was effectively frozen in time, and that's how it was in the original series. But if she returned to our world to stay, after an extended time in Oz? It would have... changed her. And not in good ways. This is even a darker take than Return to Oz - it posits that her stay in Oz *corrupted* Dorothy and drove her to insanity, as any eldritch land would. There were a lot of good people and heroic beings in Oz. There also were abominations out of your worst nightmares, hidden in areas one could quite easily stumble into.
Two years ago I decided to binge watch every episode of Supernatural. Among my very favorite story arcs was the one featuring Dorothy and her determination to return to Oz to find her dog. And I STILL keep my eyes peeled for one of those Men of Letters coffee cups when I go to thrift stores...

Yeah, This trailer was great. I wish every film could have enough interesting visuals and story hooks in the first thirty minutes that we never had to see clips from the climax that would give the whole thing away. Like in The Matrix, anyone who saw the commercial knew Neo would stop bullets by the end, and when he supposedly died, the commercial gave away that he wasn't really--or was only temporarily--dead, because he still hadn't done that.

In 1982 Phillip Jose Farmer wrote A Barnstormer In Oz. Its a wild sequel to the original story that re-imagines that Dorothy only went to Oz once, then spent a little time in a hospital recovering from injuries she got in a tornado. Not wanting to spend her life in a sanitarium, she went along with the doctors' explanation that the wild tales she told of Oz were a temporary delusion caused by shock and injury. Later she collobrated with Frank L. Baum as a silent partner on the Oz series and went on to live a normal, happy life, aided by quiet royalties. She did share the true story with her son who, in 1923 flies into Oz through a magical green storm. There, he recalls his mom's adventure was really NSFW and UnFamily Friendly. Example: the Tin Woodsman was more like the Tin Headsman who cuts a bloody swathe through the Flying Monkey Horde.
This trailer was posted 1 month ago & I’m just now finding out about it. I love Wizard of Oz sequels & spinoffs like the mini series titled “Tin Man”. Somebody managed to turn Wizard of Oz into a horror movie, even though the Oz novels already had elements of horror in them. This looks good❗️🔥🔥🔥🔥
When I studied politics I learned that all the characters are representing an element of societal paradigm and the younger generation now is horrified by the older model.
Really hoping the characters come back as horror style villians like in the danielle Paige Dorothy must die series where the characters are all terrifying and twisted to be terrifying
Well if Oz 2 didn't scare you as a child this feels like the appropriate upgrade to do the job as an adult. Anyone else want to see there terrifying abomination that monkey birds are in this movie or is it just me?
@@codyevans6454 It was the only disturbing movie that I adored as a child (and still do now at 38). It took me until adulthood to process the trauma of Secret of Nimh and The Neverending Story, but now I think those are both great (although I'll never really forgive the latter for Artax and the dude being brutally zapped to death).
Why did this spawn so many ideas about the look of all the other characters and the fact that Glenda could be revealed to be the villain in this movie would make it hugely good

I’m so excited to see this movie. I like this re imagining/re telling or unofficial type of continuation of the Wizard of Oz . I hope and assume that Oz does indeed exist and Emily will unfortunately NOT listen to her grandmother Dorothy and go to Oz or find herself there somehow and see all of the horrors that Dorothy did, but be able to overcome and defeat them and help cure her grandmother’s trauma in the end. I hope Oz is dark, demented, twisted, evil and hopeless and I hope the inhabitants remember Dorothy and what happened there with her and hopefully we get some back story
@@rodian_skypyratz6181 It's certainly a fantasy with very strong horror elements, I wouldn't say it's strictly one or the other. In Praise of Shadows video on the history and making of it highlights both genres with in the film

This is what I wanted....I was always more fascinated by Return to Oz because the darker content. I had such empathy for Dorothy, being judged as a schizophrenic. We leave Wizard of Oz saddened that Dorothy left her friends. Yet, it is bittersweet: a union either means psychosis or Oz is real. We are left to question, "What if it were me?" Dorothy became real in my eyes because of her mental struggles. I still held hope that she had access to this beautiful world to escape the tornado and it's path of destruction. She deserved that reprieve after not only her physical trauma but the mental imagery she gathered from the aftermath. I am so excited about seeing this! 🤗💜
Oh my goodness...as someone who has always thought Oz was a very different place than what was shown in the famous movie after reading all the books when I was young, this looks AWESOME! I hope to see it when it comes out. Thank You...
I'd watched wizard of Oz as a kid, the wicked witch of the west scared me, 20 years later I watched return of Oz dark sequel. Finally there's darker sequel of Dorothy's grandchild to find answer about her life of Oz and her dog toto, I'm looking forward this movie next year.
It says her mind’s entanglement with the paranormal. “And the dreams that you dare to dream REALLY DO COME TRUE” Oh. That would have been good to be said here
I'll reserve judgement till I see it. I feel like their really was a deeper psychological horror aspect to Dorothy's experience, and what it all meant to her moving forward - how she interprets it, the whole "was it all in my head" nature of what I am sure the "real world" would have forced down her throat, along with more medications than you can shake a broomstick at. In all honesty, other than the Oz connection being referenced, I didn't see much that separates this from any other jump-scare paranormal-type thriller that has been made a million times before. But that is just based on the trailer, and could mean nothing, so...only way to know is to watch it, give it a fair shake, which every film deserves. People put so much hard work into getting these films made - someone's dream may be behind this - and we should always at least watch the film before passing any judgement. Everyone hated Peter's organic web-shooters at one time, and for those of us old enough, the outcry over - gasp - MICHAEL KEATON playing Batman - without even a whiff of the internet to be found - was overwhelming. Now we loved getting Tobey and his organic webs back, and the excitement for Keaton returning to the Batman role in THE FLASH is palpable. So we shall see.
Never heard of this movie but have always been intrigued by the creepiness of the original. I saw someone post about this on Facebook and looked up trailer. Can't wait to see it

This looks good❗️🔥🔥🔥🔥
Tin man was absolutely awesome
When I studied politics I learned that all the characters are representing an element of societal paradigm and the younger generation now is horrified by the older model.
Where can I watch this movie!!!!!
I'm just finding out about it.
😱 That trailer definitely freaked the crap out of me! I think I'll stay on the yellow brick road from now on!!! hahahaha 😂😂
I've always wanted a scary follow up to the original. I've always wanted to see more of the haunted forest. I really hope they spend some time there.
I hope this comes out for real. Looks great.
Really hoping the characters come back as horror style villians like in the danielle Paige Dorothy must die series where the characters are all terrifying and twisted to be terrifying
I loved that series
That would be sweet
Well, we did see the scarecrow! Can't wait to see what it looks like.
That series was definitely good, but have you read Shadow of Oz by Nick Damon? IMHO it was even better!
I've tried to start reading "Dorothy must Die" so many times and haven't gotten past the first chapter.
I was like "meh" until that last "STAY AWAY FROM OZ" and that legitimately freaked the hell outta me. Bravo
I love the premise of this movie. It looks extremely interesting.
Not a movie but a mini series. I want to see the world you’d create & I want to take my time!!!
Well if Oz 2 didn't scare you as a child this feels like the appropriate upgrade to do the job as an adult. Anyone else want to see there terrifying abomination that monkey birds are in this movie or is it just me?
Monkey birds....nightmares since I was little!
return to OZ was so creepy
@@codyevans6454 It was the only disturbing movie that I adored as a child (and still do now at 38). It took me until adulthood to process the trauma of Secret of Nimh and The Neverending Story, but now I think those are both great (although I'll never really forgive the latter for Artax and the dude being brutally zapped to death).
@@andrewkohler3707 oh Artax 😥
Why did this spawn so many ideas about the look of all the other characters and the fact that Glenda could be revealed to be the villain in this movie would make it hugely good
*possibly because the story is now in the public domain so is open to any number of interpretations*
Elphaba is not the title character of Wicked. The blonde chick is. Most people don’t understand that.
It’ll probably still be the wicked witch of the west as the main villain
O-M-G … how am I just hearing about this?! My favorite movie is Wizard of Oz, and my favorite genre is horror … YES, PLEASE!! 👏😄
Hi, just an add to my last text. I was a little confused. My Mom and l enjoyed the "Great and Powerful Oz", with James Franco. We obviously cherish all the movies and books. Looking forward too seeing, "Stay Away from Oz". Thanks again everyone for the great written information. I won't forget.
This isn’t an actual movie. It’s a trailer for a film concept. I believe they’re trying to get funding together to make it.
I was looking hard! I couldn’t find anything about it lol
I was looking to see if this was real or not also
This is disappointing.
They should get Liza to play Dorothy!
@SL It's real. The movie will be released on this app called Chilling. Sometime this year.
They already made a horror movie version of Wizard of Oz. It's called Return to Oz.
I have trauma from that movie 🤣
But it wasn't intended as a horror movie. But yeah, I do see your point. The freaky imagry in it is definitly horror movie material.
Not only is Return to Oz a horror, it's truest to the source material out of any Oz movie
@@katieo1787 I think it’s more of a straight fantasy movie like the original.
@@rodian_skypyratz6181 It's certainly a fantasy with very strong horror elements, I wouldn't say it's strictly one or the other. In Praise of Shadows video on the history and making of it highlights both genres with in the film
I love this trailer, turning the classic movie into something nightmare, I'll be looking forward to watch whole horrifying film
*the books were in fact pretty dark in more than a few places*
@@scottmantooth8785 if you know about What happened behind the scenes o ‘ th’ original “Wizard Of OZ” ya could very well claim that this “franchise” was horror from its very essence
this looks SOOOOOO GOOD! if she ends up going to Oz, i can't imagine how creepy that will be!
She's simply stunning, always leaving me in awe. Anyone else feeling the same?
Are they ever going to release this please please please say yes
Glad it’s the dark story without Disney in way screwing it up
Exactly! I wanted American Mcgees Alice...not that bs we ended up with.
Honestly, I don’t hate this, usually movies that try to make a classic non horror story a horror movie just plain suck but this looks like it has legitimate effort in it
"I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!". Apparently that witch wasn't all hot air and brimstone.
Where can I find this film now please? It doesn't come up when I search for it on Chiller, though I may be doing it wrong. Thanks in advance.
I really need to see this. I hope this isn't fake. When does this come out?
Its a startup trailer. He needs funding to make it into a movie from my understanding
@@Oregonman2011 Can't wait.
Looks rather dark.
And very promising 👌
@@nightstar11801 Take a number and join the queue mate.
The Wizard of Oz is one of my top 3 fav movies.. and i said yeaars ago i hope someone makes a horror version... THANK YOU!!!
This is better than any other trailer I have seen in years without giving away the movie
Oh my goodness...as someone who has always thought Oz was a very different place than what was shown in the famous movie after reading all the books when I was young, this looks AWESOME! I hope to see it when it comes out. Thank You...
Id definitely see this in theaters no question
DAMMIT!! I KN EW that jump scare was coming and I STILL JUMPED!!! 🤣
Yaaay! 😱😆
Welp. I guess Return to Oz is no longer the scariest Oz movie anymore. (Even if that one beautifully captured the style of the original books)
I saw it and I loved it. It's only 28 minutes but waiting on the rest to be released. Any info on when it's going to be finished/released?
This looks incredible, great work, very exciting project! x
i wish all trailers were this vague. my take away is scary version of the wizard of oz, i'm in. thanks for not spoiling the movie
Where to watch??
I'd watched wizard of Oz as a kid, the wicked witch of the west scared me, 20 years later I watched return of Oz dark sequel. Finally there's darker sequel of Dorothy's grandchild to find answer about her life of Oz and her dog toto, I'm looking forward this movie next year.
It says her mind’s entanglement with the paranormal.
“And the dreams that you dare to dream REALLY DO COME TRUE”
Oh. That would have been good to be said here
When I first saw this trailer I was so taken away that I watched the original again and then read the book. Super stoked for this!!
I love when trailers don't give away the whole movie by showing too much this is what I miss about movie trailers so hopefully I hope we get.
Now thats a Trailer 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥
Now this is how a trailer is supposed to be like
Dorothy: STAY AWAY FROM OZ!
Pennsylvania: OK, we get it!
Oh, Oz not us.
Good job. I love how naive ppl are. I hope this gets a major distribution 🧡
"stay away from us!"
Message received grandma!
I can’t find a release date anywhere does someone know when it comes out?
I was trying to find that out to
It’s not real lol well it hasn’t been. Picked up
Return to Oz: Part II. I LOVE IT.
Wow. As good a trailer as any by a major studio. I'd pay to see this.
Its crazy that who ever made this an independent studio ❤
Poor Dorothy, you'd thought she'd live a happy life after she woke up from her 'Yellow Brick Road' dream! Apparently not!
I live in Syracuse New York where the author wrote these Oz stories… Ozfest and a museum in Chittenango NY
Wow, when is this film coming to our shores? Never have I seen so terrifying and engaging,at the same time. I want more, the true story of Oz .
This trailer was actually pretty good
I hit rewind for that stay away from us at the end like six times and was great
I'm a huuuuuge Wizard Of Oz fan! The movie was my childhood. This looks absolutely amazing. Where can it be watched?
Wow !!! I didn't know about this movie ! Fascinating! Maybe I can find the dvd .😮
Rumour has it that if you see a face in the door at 1:44 Gale will visit you in your dreams!
😈
I'm already terrified in anticipation.
I don’t even like scary movies, but I’ll be seeing this!!
Never heard of this movie but have always been intrigued by the creepiness of the original. I saw someone post about this on Facebook and looked up trailer. Can't wait to see it
I knew something evil was going to show up in the mirror behind that man, but I still jumped when it occurred, LOL.
I really hope they release this film soon
Hope the whole film will be as good as this trailer 👍
I remember reading the book for the first time long after seeing the movie. I just remember thinking "this is WAY different than what I saw in the movie."
😰😰😰That is so creepy since my mom made me watch this trailer. I’m gonna end up having nightmares for days😰😰😰
I’m surprised this doesn’t got more likes and views
The noise right at the very beginning startled me with headphones in. This will be good!
All that's missing is a creepy version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" playing in the background
LMAO
I’d be down to see that
spot on!!
Was literally thinking the exact same thing
I was actually waiting for that; I thought it was during the swing scene.
This looks really interesting! I like the tone of this! Will definitely be watching this!
