i know it's an easy joke but i'll never get tired of seeing twitch chatters saying "just like me" after Maya describes animal behavior like covering yourself in mucus and only leaving your dirt pile to poop in the water

He seems like he's extremely fake, and he is quickly transitioning from just being fake and talking to talking too much and being annoying.

I'm actually very impressed right now, this episode is top tier quality! The amount of information, some unsure chips of knowledge here and there, but still it makes you think which what really matters. This should have a series, I hope chat people suggest more animal topics. I live for this shit. This is how normal smart friends talk about animals, if this is a party and there's a bunch of crowds, I'll still be sitting next to you guys. I just smoked a little bit of bud, this is amazing.

Never heard of Trihex before but wow he exudes genuine kindness and respect for the people, animals, and space around him. So refreshing.
I have a medium dog in a 1 bed 1 bath but she is not a super active breed, and she is a rescue who was going to be put down. I walk her where my neighbors can’t see during the day and walk her to the neighborhood dog park once or twice a day at 3 AM, 10 AM, 3 PM, 10 PM unless she personally signals that she wants to go outside those times usually lol. She has severe anxiety so I rarely leave the apartment to take care of her. Just wanted to say that being in an apartment or neighbors not seeing me walk the dog doesn’t necessarily mean anything in regards to dog welfare.

Turtles actually do shed, typically it’s much easier to notice when turtles shed the scutes on their shell, but they do shed skin too. All keratinized segments of reptiles and amphibians do shed. Most amphibians eat their shed, but even if you did see it it looks so thin, that it looks more like dried mucus than shredded skin you might associate with a snake/lizard. Reptile and amphibian skins are typically keratinized, which is very protective, and helps regulate water uptake, but does not lend well to adding skin cells into the matrix, hence the shedding. Frogs, toads, salamanders, and even amphiumas shed their skin!

The talk about climate change is very important and letting people know the effects of it all is how people get more informed and more change can happen, however I think it’s also important to clarify that it isn’t too late to make change because when people only hear the bad news it can be disheartening and people are like “well nothing I do can make a change so I won’t change anything”. There have been leaps and strides happening! It’s good to tell people the warnings and the bad but then to soften it with the good and hope. I say this as an environmental scientist with a focus on wetlands and coastal environments
As somone that has 2 huskies, siberian huskies(those are the purebred ones), I promise you, walks are not enough.
Alaskan Huskies are a bit different as they are mixed with other dogs. So their fundamental needs and inner workings will depend on what kinda breed they have mixed in.
But huskies need to work. You can walk them for hours and it will not be enough. They will act all crazy because they need so much activity. Mine goes sledding, heavy chains or backpacks on to add weight in the summer. And long travels in the winter. If they are stuck inside with shorter walks for more than 3 days you can see them slowly get more and more antsy before straight up crazy.
Also, loved the talk about all the serious stuff going on with our planet and its inhabitants. This is my favorite episode/guest 100%
Once trained a dog for a client who got it from a rescue apparently told he needs 1 hr walk a day.
Happy to report this guy is a legend and took on the job, he cycles with him daily now and does cart pulls etc. Even got a mini sled to have him pull during the winter.
So many stories like this of people who got dogs from rescues and they don't tell them the full story/proper care of the dog.
Quite side tracked, but yah I honestly barely consider a husky a pet. A proper relationship with a husky is a employee relation more than anything. They should be working all day and without a job they are just going to work to ruin your life.
@@littlewigglemonster7691 Huskies can be a wonderful companion as long as you do right by them and you connect with them. They are so smart with a lot of personality, so getting close to one might not be as easy as with more family friendly dogs. I am very close with my oldest dog, and even as the oldest he is the baby of the house lol
The second one is not actually mine, but he lives with me because the owner dose not really have the time and effort for a husky, and previous dog sitters had no idea how to deal with him.
But having a "work relation" with a husky is not uncommon and not a bad thing. Many with Huskies often have a pack of them, so they do just fine with each other until you take them out for work and they get to use that extra energy.
Also good on your client for adapting to his dogs needs. Im always so impressed with people that meet up to the challenge when they are new or a bit ignorant to what they actually brought home.
@@littlewigglemonster7691yeah, people don't really consider this when they hear that a dog is a "working breed". some have a little less activity requirement than others but generally the gap between dogs that were trained and domesticated to work alongside humans accomplishing physical tasks, and dog breeds who don't have as much history with that, is a pretty big gap.

1:20:30 the point abt chickens being feathered alive is true, I'm not sure if they still are, but they used to feather them extremely young and give them hormone blockers that stopped them from growing feathers!, because it took less time/effort to feather a bunch of baby chickens than adult chickens!, I was just clarifying why they used to do this because maya looked a but confused

my problem with bugs and spiders specifically is that they make me feel this intense panic and the closer they get to me the more I want to run and scream. I do feel bad when someone kills them but I can't even get close enough to contain it and free it.
Im in the same boat, since watching these Alveus streams i dont kill bugs anymore but im too scared to catch and release them so they just get to chill in my house i guess

Fear of bugs and spiders is learned behavior, so you can actually unlearn it. Watching or reading educational content about bugs, or just looking at pictures of bugs online can actually help reduce that panic response so much. If you want to see an insect I think is super cute look up the acorn weevil (:

I live on the top floor of my apartment complex with no elevator and I take my dog out every 2-3 hours so that he can run around. My legs hurt but it's worth it to keep him happy.

Your talk about bad zoos reminded me of a case of a zoo here in Finland named "Suurpetokeskus", big predator centre, getting closed last year because of very bad neglect situations, partly because a lack of funding, but also the owners attitude towards the bears was somewhat weird.
The owner wanted to portray the bears as very human-like from what I remember. And then there was two cases of the bears getting out, once attacking the owner. (both bears got killed afterwards) One of the escaped bears were also born in the zoo between two sibling bears also born in there.
The old owner stepped down I think, in recent article someone else is getting interviewed as the leader of the operation.
They'll probably get to keep going eventually, but there's legal battles and criminal invedtigations they'll need to weave through first, and don't know how easily they'll convince public to go in there.
Im new to this. I like this a lot. Thank you. I will leave my old life and start an animal sanctuary. Fuck the ugly society. Return to Monke.
