They're right there with Robin WIlliams in terms of people I have to remind myself aren't with us anymore because "Of course they can't die!". And it bums me out everytime. The world is just a lesser place without them here.
Melissa can't handle tornados, but she can handle vampires. Which is an entirely different suck zone.😁
I don't see many people putting that connection together 😂
I had to look Jami Gertz up off of this film's page to remind myself that she was in Lost Boys...damn, I'm losing it!
@henryvandeventer2457 actually we never seen her being bit or drinking the blood!
@@bjgandalf69 Don't forget Seinfeld.
Not to mention she's a billionaire
I grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma. The one thing this film actually gets right is that it can go from a clear, sunny day with blue skies to almost pitch black and chaotic within just a few minutes. Tornadoes sound like freight trains, and when you're sitting in a storm shelter waiting for the storm to pass, those minutes you spend worrying if your house will still be there are very tense.
Yeah, I used to live in Springfield, MO and I remember when the sky would turn green too.
The cow landed at Aunt May's, that's how she got all that beef lol
LOL, plot twist(er)! 😁
This and Dante's Peak are my two favorite 'natural disaster ' movies.
30+ year storm chaser here; terrain doesn't stop tornadoes; have seen damage paths climb a 3K ft hill, drop to the valley floor on the other side, and back up the next hill.
Have seen multiple EF4's and two EF5 tornadoes. Depending on where you're at, they sound differently - from the sides, they can sound like waterfalls, they can have a hail roar just in front of it with softball and baseball sized stones. Others can have such a low frequency infrasound that you feel it in the ground and in your lungs more than your ears.
Thank you. I heard her say that, and immediately came here to make sure somebody told them.
Mountains will
exactly, why would something from the sky be affected by something on the ground? lol
The fact that you watched this and the Twisters trailer released yesterday is impeccable.
Still have my VHS in a display case along with an original DVD. Twister never gets old. Now a sequel... "it's already here." I could watch this classic anytime & not get bored being a trained storm chaser for the National Weather service in Texas.
Rip Bill Paxton, Philip Seymour, & music artist Van Halen.
23:06 Hell yeah, that song is Humans Being by Van Halen! RIP Eddie
After the credits, there is a song from Eddy and Alex Van Halen name " Respect The Wind." Awesome Song!!!
Between the truck and the song my son made me take him to see this 3 times within 2 days!!
@@jasonzimmerman4103 That one never gets old.
Some tornado facts:
The Teton-Yellowstone tornado, rated F4, is the strongest tornado to occur in Wyoming, and it crossed the continental divide. Ic happened on July 21, 1987.
The weirdest (and maybe most localized) tornado outbreak occurred on June 3, 1980, when 7 tornadoes touched down in the city of Grand Island, Nebraska, out of the same storm in around 3 hours.
An unusual electrical event accompanied the tornado that struck Blackwell, Oklahoma May 25, 1955. Many people reported the funnel glowing an electrical shade of blue, and was accompanied by intense lightning activity. Several weather offices in the area also noted the storm of unusual electrical intensity. It is unknown what caused the blue glow, and it has not been observed in a tornado since then to my knowledge. The glow of the tornado is credited with warning many citizens of Blackwell of the oncoming storm. The same tornado, or a different tornado of the same intensity born from the same storm, later struck the community of Udall, Kansas.
Over 25 years old and I remember my dad had it on VHS and watching it with him all the time. Such good times
Great Father, great movie. I remember watching it for the first time with my uncle on an old ass TV with a VCR, wow. I feel OLD AF right now.
Were you kind by rewinding the video cassette? Kids these days will never know the shear terror of the VHS rental getting eaten by the VHS player
Fun fact: first movie to be released on DVD.
Same here.
The cow lived but gave curdled milk the rest of it's life.
My thoughts:
As someone that grew up and still lives in Oklahoma this movie is amazing. This is still one of the scariest films i’ve seen. 2 scenes in particular still scare me the most:
1. The opening scene because that kind of stuff actually happens to people today even with advanced warning.
2. The drive-in scene because night tornadoes are probably the scariest kind of tornado you would encounter.
Fun Facts about Tornadoes:
1. 18 wheelers and animals do get thrown around like toys
2. Tornado winds do in fact sound like freight trains or jets depending on who you ask
3. You can in fact hear the tornado “roar” if you listen hard enough
4. To correct @MrsMovies, tornadoes can form on hills they do not protect you fully from tornadoes (yes parts of Oklahoma have hills)
5. Most tornadoes are very “weak” and don’t last for very long
6. Oklahoma holds the record for the fastest tornado wind speed ever recorded (302 mph)
7. Oklahoma holds the record for the widest tornado ever seen (2.6 miles wide)
Fun Facts about Twister (1996):
1. In Wakita, Oklahoma (a tiny town in far Northern Oklahoma) there is a museum with memorabilia from this movie since part of the movie was filmed. I think @MrsMovies would enjoy the museum since this one of her favorite films
2. In the opening scene when the TV pops on that is Gary England an actual meteorologist that worked in the Oklahoma City area for over 40 years and got to be part of the production of the film.
3. Another meteorologist was also on screen a couple of times that worked in the Oklahoma City area for over 20 years. His name is Rick Mitchell and he nows works in the DFW Metroplex currently.
4. The drive-in scene (not the parts in Melissa’s hotel room) were actually filmed at a real drive-in theater in Guthrie, Oklahoma
Lastly, i want to thank @YouMeTheMovies for a great reaction you guys are on point. Mrs. Movies still has great reactions even when she knows what happens.
And yes Mrs. Movies i love this movie almost as much as you do!
I think i mentioned this during the lost boys reaction but its bananas that Jami Gertz is now a multi-billionaire. She is part owner of the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bewers. 🤯
net worth of $3 Billion. must be nice
I remember watching this in theaters because the roof was leaky and it dripped on a woman around the time when the outdoor theater gets destroyed. Her scream scared a lot of people in the theater. But it did make them fix the roof!
Haha 😂😂😂
We had a e f 4 come through my city in Georgia last week. Scary
Loved this movie growing up. It wasn't until about a year ago that I realized that the actress that plays Melissa is the same actress that played Star in the Lost Boys.
Shut the front door. I had to look that up. Wow. That's wild
The Dustman is a great character, he was the first one to try to comfort Melissa after the truck lands in front of her.
"its just a hurricane"
Waterspout-"Am i a joke to you?"
I rememebr when this movie came out. I was ten years old and my mom and I had literally just moved to Tulsa the summer Twister released. It was such a huge hit here and despite the actual threat of tornadoes here, I loved the movie.
I credit this movie for teaching me how to set up my first 5.1 surround sound system.
And I was a complete Helen Hunt fanboy around the time this movie came out, so ..
Yeah, from this year, movies really started to get that awesome surround sound, the movie theaters really turned into a real movie experience!
Yeah, my mad used this film to test out his Surround setup. He used to build his own subwoofer cabinets.
I was a Helen Hunt fanboy too. I love this movie.
it sucks she is not going to be in the sequel
watching this as a 5 year old made me afraid of tornadoes for years.
Not to mention I live where tornadoes are about as common as a blue moon.
Love you RAW IS WAR shirt! WWF Attitude!
Saw this movie twice in the theater. I still have the VHS tape of this movie.
RIP Bill Paxton and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Actually, during the Joplin tornado, a store manager was lost while trying to protect people that were with him in the store as he was trying to keep a door closed, similar to her father.
A vampire's worst nightmare. That was brilliant 👏👏😂😂😂
The suck zone banter had me cracking up, nice reaction.
Saw it in the movie theater with the largest screen in my hometown. Late 1996, I think. I went with my students (first class I was the head teacher of). Not only the wow effect, but also sentimental value.
I seen it in theaters. As we were on the drive home, they announced a tornado watch over the radio
I remember the preview trailer for this on the television when I was seven years old and I was blown away. 🤣
Just in time for the sequel.
Or reboot. Whichever. Still gonna watch it.
BTW... the Twisters trailer premiered last night during the super bowl.
And it totally missed what made the original fantastic.
I have no interest in seeing some bullshit reboot
First DVD in the US.
I had such an absolutely incredible crush on Helen Hunt because of this movie ;D Her face, her voice, her mannerisms. Goodness gracious.
The cow survived, but had PTSD (Post Tornado Stress Disorder) and gave sour milk after that. The movie also had a great Shania Twain video..
3:10 That little exchange between you two was the sort of thing I'd expect to hear when your little one wanders into your Justified reactions.
Once again, Mrs. Movies has great taste. This is one of the best "Disaster" Movies ever, with great writing and an absolutely stacked cast (some cast members being more "stacked" than others...lookin' at you, Jami Gertz). 😍
My wife was born in Kansas and she was big on stockpiling. One bedroom just for food and supplies. Aways a wood pile in the back yard. Never had a tornado but you never know...
Keeping in mind what year this movie was made.. The ACCURACY with which they predicted what the actual inside of a tornado looks like still astounds me.. Few years ago, storm chasers managed to put a camera into a tornado and the view from inside is so strikingly close it's scary...
Love your RAW IS WAR shirt. Big wrestling fan myself. Love this movie too.
I live in the Midwest and severe weather can happen at the drop of a hat. There’s been a few close calls in my city the past few summers but thankfully nothing awful happened. On a side note the breakfast scene in this movie lives in my head rent free. The food looks so good.
As a fan of the first film, I am looking forward to this, and I am looking forward to seeing the second film as well ☺️
I've gotta go, we've got cows.
Second film? There's a Twister 2?
@nicholasholloway8743 yes it's called Twisters they aired the trailer during the superbowl.
@@nicholasholloway8743Twisters. Trailer dropped last night during some sports thing.
We saw this movie as a family just before our Clark Griswold road trip across the country to the midwest.
Funny enough, while we were there, the sky turned green and we had legitimate tornado warnings with air raid sirens going.
My sisters were scared to death.
one of those movies that is still good no matter how many times you watch it. even the cgi still holds up today.
Still one of my personal all-time favorites!! I'm so old, I saw it in theaters when it first came out. I wanted to be a storm chaser after I watched it. LOL
About maps: I've never had a map fail to function because of interference from lightning, suffering a power outage, or the failure of a battery.
Me neither, but once I had map failure due gust of wind though. Learned a thing then.
@@thejamppa Fair point, but wherever it ended up it was still completely functional (unless it went into a body of water, which would be even worse for a phone).
one of the combines in the film, im not sure which one exactly, but it was bought and sold and moved to Saskatchewan Canada, actually not far from where I live, its used as a prop on a huge steel support for selling combines, ive passed by it many times
Something you learned to live with growing up in central Oklahoma, and gave the state some of the best weather technology years ahead of the rest of the country. Chased them, been through them, cleaned up after even more.
Btw, the combines are just as expensive cause the state isn’t as “flat” as folks think, and there is a lot of irrigation used in the farmlands.
Drive ins are awesome you have to go at least once in your life.
My best drive in experience was watching Star Wars in the 70's. The Tie fighters were 20 ft tall.
My wife and I live in Wisconsin and last week Thursday we had our very first tornado ever recorded for February
In the opening flashback = both of Little Helen Hunt's parents are from _Friday the 13th_ movies = the mother is the co-owner of the Diner that serves Jason burgers in _Jason Goes to Hell_ and the father is one of the cops from _Part V: A New Beginning._
This movie also stars Sean Whalen from Wes Craven's _The People Under the Stairs_ and Jake Busey from _The Frighteners._
Plus the GOAT of weathermen, Gary England.
Our tiny town still has a drive in. Gotta go watch the double feature at least once every summer! Good times!
I’m not a prepper type but my family had a chimney fire when I was real young and the firefighters thought it funny cause I was standing outside with a lockbox with my “valuables” in it while they climbed all over the house.
In 1996, when this movie came out and I was about 11, an F3 hit our village. Thankfully we were not home. We had gone into town for dinner and passed it on the drive. Saw it going through a field and ripping down a barn. When he got home the house was fine, but the garage was damaged and most of the trees on the property were down. Scariest part was we were playing in the garage just before we left. There were actually 3 tornadoes that day in the greater area.
Love this flick. This and Independence Day made the summer of ‘96 an awesome one. Love the end credits song and imagery. Beauty of nature after a scary view of it.
I saw this three times in theatres back when it first came out. It's always been one of my favorites. It's also the reason I got into severe weather, especially tornadoes. Haven't seen one in person yet, but I'd still like to go chase some one day.
I always forget how insanely hungry I get when I watch this flick. 😂😂😂
Food!
@@zachmaster426 Some site a while back wrote an article about the top ten or twenty food scenes in a movie... and yeah, this was on the list. 😂
There is no place on the planet with food that's as good as that food looks! I'm convinced it's CGI. Science fiction.
FOOOD !!!
I need to live in your area. You don't have tornadoes and you have cold weather. I am where the weather is either sunny, or severe storms, and hot all year.
When I saw Twister, it was a drive-in and it was raining. Saw it and Waterworld.
I love the evil stormchaser, it's so absurd. "Jonah got himself some corporate sponsership!" Audience: "Booooooooooo!" Corporate Sponsers: "... all we want to do is help our friends in the Mid West we grew up there *cries*..."
It was such a 90’s choice to not only make a monster movie where tornados are vengeful, but also make them literally growl and roar lmao
Also had one of those ‘you may not have noticed, but your brain did’ moments picking up on how they use the background sound effects of thunder to dramatically punctuate dialogue, which is obviously amazing.
Jonas Miller aka The Dred Pirate Roberts.

What’s really weird, is that . . . THEY DON’T EVEN HAVE A DOG!!! 😱😱😱
Ironically, this is my go to movie on rainy days. I think the nostalgia of the movie, makes it very comforting. Also excited for the new movie, love good storm movies
“The suck zone“is my favorite, watching you guys thus far. As a married man, this had me cackling!
I remember in Oklahoma, this was a big deal back then. And now we got the sequel in el Reno. Gotta a buddy who worked on set.
Sadly, it's more of a remake than a sequel.
Twister and independence day made in 1996 the best summer blockbuster movies of all time. Rip Bill paxton , and you mention the soundtrack, check the song at the end credits. Made me be on a trance watching the clouds with that song of Eddie van Halen
No matter how old i get those steak and eggs always looks amazing
I didn't get lunch today, I definitely hear ya.
This movie actually made me extremely afraid of storms for a while when I was little. But it's still one of my favorites.
It's a myth that tornadoes don't form in mountainous areas so you can still be scared lol.
We used to have Twister watching parties having steak and eggs for the dinner. Awesome times!! AND.... The cow does live and it's the story behind Twisters!!!!!!!! LOL!!! JK JK JK JK!!!!!
I clicked because of your Raw Is War shirt..😎
I watched this when I was like 6. Our basement door was outside and the opening scene scarred me for a few years. Lmao glad I can laugh about it now instead of paying for therapy 😂
One of my favorite movies. I remember seeing it at the drive in when I was 7, Thunderstorm happened when viewing and I was terrified and loved it ever since.
love watching movies with you guys! Have been following multiple commentators since 2020 and love you the most!
This movie came out about the time people were getting surround sound in their homes and the tornadoes circling around you the viewer/listener was a great way to test out the new tech.
One of my favorite guilty pleasures this film :-) Makes me want to just hit the road in an rv.
I actually saw clouds (one/first time) swirling standing on a hill in the suburbs, it was coolest thing
I'm glad I saved this for tonight I get crazy lonely when I can't sleep, thanks for the amazing content much appreciated!!!!
That cow is more iconic than the movie itself. 😊
"we got cows" is still my favorite linr. I used to own this on VHS.
I remember watching Twister all the time when I was in high school. It was one of my favorites. I thought the graphics and special effects were amazing for that time. It was especially creepy watching it on a big screen TV with the tornado noises
R.I.P. Phillip and Bill. Both very good actors..
I think this is the only Hoffman performance I enjoyed...
This movie never gets old. Plus Eddie vanhalen guitar playing during the end credits is phenomenal
Well done on the sometimes Mr 😂😂, love yous two. This film is great, just seen the trailer for the 2nd one or was it the 1st one 😂😂
I was watching Twister in a movie theater and we were told to leave because a tornado was coming.
The way this movie shows the calm before a storm and all the wind and rain is so cool! I love storms and rain, so this movie is great for me.
„The extreme!!!!“
Have a drink!
LOL, I thought Mrs Movies had the shoe in her hand for protection from the twisters for a second there! 😆
18:58 There was an idea to make the cow a zebra instead to tie it to Jumanji, which came out the year before, but they decided against it, lol
I love this movie. I remember watching it in theaters and having a great time. I can’t wait to watch Twisters on the big screen.
"IF you can feel it......Chase IT"!
I saw this in the theater 3 times when it came out. Great special effects for its time.
Preppers are awesome. As strange as they may seem, they're ready for what catches you by surprise - almost regardless of what it is.
A couple facts about this movie first it broke a lotta speakers in theaters because of how loud the movie was and second when bill paxton died 200 storm chasers used gps tracker blips to carve bp into corn fields as a thank you for being in the movie
This was the first film i saw in imax and MAN was it intense. still one of my favorite films of all time and I can’t wait for the sequel!!!
I had that same umbrella in my family for many years lol it’s always weird to see it in the movie
I was living in Tornado Alley when 🌪️ Premiered_Lubbock,TX.😬
We had two tornado warnings last week here in San Diego
Had one in San Luis Obispo county too
I can't tell if Mr. movies made a reference to Pc gaming and F5 being quicksave in so many games. He seems nerdy enough to know that.
"it's a wonder of nature, baby!"
Proceeds to blast epic music**
"Melissa" plays in the original "Jersey Girl" with Dermot Mulroney. Great romantic comedy.
One of those great movies that I really should have watched more. I saw it in the cinema when it came out and then I think I saw it on TV. I ought to buy it! There's always tomorrow.....
Mr Movies, back in 2013 a tornado struck DFW, and several 18-wheelers were picked up and tossed to and from. A news chopper recorded much of the incident. It's available online. Same storm threw a lightning bolt through my garage roof.
