- Principal Walker's incentive for our students during our district iRead (Read-a-thon) competition was that he would dress up as Bruno Mars and dance and lip sync to Uptown Funk if our students met their goal of reading at least 250,000 minutes as a school. Our students exceeded that goal. Here is Mr. Walker's amazing performance dancing through the hallways of Sherwood Elementary School in Highland Park, IL.

The kids were so clearly delighted. It may have been the only smile that some of those kids had reason to give that day. May we remember that we all can give that gift in SOME way. 🙌

What a way to get to your children. We can sit all day & say "when I was in school.." this Mr. Walker took the time to learn the dance moves & song. These children thoroughly enjoyed that. This is a "when I was in school" story they will tell to their children & grandchildren etc. He should receive Principal of the year. Thank you Mr. Walker for teaching your children that school can be fun & give you long lasting memories. I had a teacher like that. R.I.P. Mrs Garelick.

@@janetmcabee I went to Elementary School in Highland Park, IL 60 years ago.!!! Go Braeside!!!. But I can honestly say my Principal Mr. Beam, never even showed his face in a classroom. Sad. We would have freaked out at something like this. LOL

This is one of the greatest things I have ever seen these kids will remember this forever and will have proof if no one believes them but he made learning fun for all of them this kind of thing should be going on everywhere you can learn more if you make it fun. I'm just now watching this video. I love the atmosphere Mr. Walker is giving. He's a great principal and deserves a medal for making school feel safe and fun for his students. I LOVE THIS, this principal is special. Not only did he enjoy himself but the children really enjoyed. They were happy, excited; and yet still well behaved. These guys must be doing something right. And the school itself looked immaculately clean. I am very and highly impressed.. Good on you!!!!!

I remember when my elementary teacher started a drill team and performed with us on roller skates at a school assembly to the theme song Rocky. Mrs. Wilson really was an awesome teacher and was never forgotten. Years later, I attended her retirement party and roller skated out to speak with several other classmates about her impact on us.
I wish all schools where like that.
