(Apologies if this is not right written, english is not my first language)i love how Craig always thinks less of himself, but every time that he talks to someone more "intelligent" than him, he dont even try to be at the same level of intelligence, he is always at the same level. he was always right when he used to said "i'm not a talk show host" because he was not, he was better than that.
English IS my first language and you wrote that better than more than half the "native speakers" I've encountered in my life.

@@BenGearig No congrats, for whatever it was worth, was required. I had seen the original broadcast of this videos and of course that broadcast had no Outtro. Us fans became aware of Craig's peabody when he mentioned, being given it, on a later broadcasted show. Therefore, I had no idea, of what you were referring to when you wrote "it was in the video" until I reviewed the y.t. video to the end and saw the Outtro, which actually was not part of the original show. I applaud you on a great joke.

My favourite part of this interview is at 21:50. The silence as they wait for Father Tutu to finish his story is staggering. Completely enthralled by this man. We are so lucky to have him.
EDIT: Father Tutu passed away in December 2021. We are so lucky to have had him.
Sad to say, this is my first time listening to him. I am also one of those people as you described the audience, silent waiting on every word . The way he described how in a way to deal with evil , and how the woman who was in icu for months after that grenade, is actually making me look at my own self . I came here via watching Craig’s interview with Morgan Freeman , like 7 interviews of them, and Craig and Morgan talking about Nelson and how Craig interviewed Father Tutu. I’m glad I came here for this. Just over halfway and loving this.

He's that good.
A Nobel prize-winning bishop with a deliciously evil cackle, and a talkshow host who can quote Thomas Aquinas. And he LISTENED! In a way I don't think I've ever heard any talkshow host listen before, with the possible exception of Michael Parkinson. And they hardly mentioned religion once. They didn't need to. It was humanity.

The best bar none late night show ever...and why you ask? because of the honesty and the lack of cheap laughs that other late shows engage in... I miss Craig Ferguson on late night. Who else could do an interview with the like of Tutu and still have the humor and integrity of the art intact.

What a fantastic human being, and a great guest. The Archbishop has such a wonderful sense of humor. Craig said in a speech that Archbishop Desmond Tutu was the guest that made the biggest impact on his show. He also stated he believes the show got better after his appearance. I am so happy you've shared this wonderful episode.
What an amazing lady and what an amazing man. And the way Craig adapts to each one to give them space and comfort at the same time he brings a smile from them and his audience.
Can anybody doubt, after watching these two interviews, that Craig is the best host ever?

Plus the remarkable Jody Williams who is absolutely spot on regarding sexism and attitudes towards women who are just as capable, if not more so, than men in the fight against injustice in the world. I did learn one very important thing with that interview. If I was a vampire and I walked up to a woman that had kangaroo testicles hanging around her neck, I would definitely run the other way. The accomplishments of Desmond Tutu are too many to list here and i wish late night talk shows would invite people like him on their shows. Also in this interview we get to see a completely different craig. He thoroughly deserved that peabody award. He listened and did not try to control the interview. I cannot imagine other late night talk show hosts responding the way he did. Desmond Tutu was the once in a lifetime guest. Thanks TJLF for this. You have done a valuable service for putting these out there for the whole world to see.
That outro: even when he's not in the room, he gets a laugh. I reckon part of why he made his name in the US is that his comedy has a level of endearing self-deprecation that is quite common in British humor, but is often lacking in American comedy. Makes him stand out more. This is not a criticism of American comedy, merely an observation.
I love this show. Corbin tries, but he's not in Craig's league.

I just watched the first half with the Arch Bishop and I have to say, TJLF, that was probably one of the best interviews he ever had. It was amazing to for the audience to be so quiet and listening so intently as they did that night. Wonderful upload. Thank you very much. =D

The respect afforded to the Archbishop & even the faith, is something seldom seen today. Humour is the key to empathy. Craig Ferguson: Respect Level 100
Tutu was a man who was easy to respect, whether a person was Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Scientologist, atheist or whatever. His humanitarian ideals and basic decency were clear and his place in history is assured.
When this episode aired on CBS, I wasn't in the mood for "serious talk" so, I skipped it entirely. I have since been considering searching for it on TH-cam. I didn't search, but it was suggested to me today. I sort of remember some of the first few words, so I must have watched a little bit (I'm listening as I type this comment). I do intend to actually watch and listen to the entire interview this time.

Brett Herring - Me too also. So many people of certain religions go through life scolding anyone unfortunate enough to get within their reach. Archbishop Tutu quite simply transcends. Like you, I am atheist - that doesn’t stop me respecting someone of his ilk.
People like this aren't good people because they are religious. They're good people who happen to be religious.

What we do here, generally, is work with the mentally ill to enable integration with the help of meds and counselling. When this isn't feasible, we hospitalise. Asylums are a deep dark thing of the past and the term isn't thrown around in polite conversation - and most particularly when recorded for public. D'oh.

May I offer this thought? Ms.Williams was, a sharp, witty and unpretentious lady who could banter with the best of them and negotiate with all types of individuals anywhere on the globe. As this was her first and only visit, I like to believe that Craig accorded this Nobel Prize winner some respect, by not subjecting her the double entendre offer of the "Mouth Organ". I would have loved to seen her return for another visit. Anyway just my humble thoughts.

The interview with Desmond Tutu made me remember my time in the military. All those horror stories he tells are just the norm in so many places throughout the world. People would always throw the negative politic BS questions at me about so-n-so's agenda, we're only there for oil (never saw a single oil well), etc. Let me tell you, when people cry uncontrollably, because they're so happy to be safe now. "You can't imagine what it was like before you came....". Things like that. I tell you, that's something you can never explain to sensationalists, and spin doctors. I never fought for our freedom; I fought so that others could have the same, or at least a slice of the types of freedoms we have.

The British actually used their naval power to go on a crusade against slavery all but wiping it out in Africa by attacking slave galleys and threatening to economically cripple the countries that sold slaves. So we colonized countries, installed infrastructure, an made a horrible civil rights violation a little less horrible. I'm just saying, we were pretty cool some times.
Kyle Whitehead, it's hard to weigh history and our nations actions in the past. As a Canadian I am alternately entirely proud and deeply ashamed of things my country has done in its history, but I can't quantify the actual good or bad brought about by those actions. I don't think anyone can truly say exactly what impact individual actions had on our history, the best we can do is learn from both the good and bad decisions made so none of that bullshit gets repeated ever again.
All that said, I didn't specifically know the detail you spoke of and it is certainly reassuring that not every white dude in that time period was a total scumbag.
The British are good at a few things. We're - I'm a Glaswegian - we are notable in the Arts and communication in general and engineering I believe. And I quite easily stand corrected. Remaining with the topic at hand - we were good at colonizing - or commanding groups of people throughout the world to fulfill our sordid vision of empirical domination, and in doing so we enslaved countless. So kindly refrain Mr Whitehead with your laughable revisionism. It's wildly inaccurate. Our legacy in this regard is sadly a tattered old bed sheet.
