Love that you've been showcasing South African plants! I always tell plant lovers that if they can visit southern Africa they should. You will learn a very valuable lesson as a grower observing plants in the wild there. I quickly learned how little our plants actually need us to survive and thrive. It was a humbling lesson for my ego 😆 but it made me such a better caretaker and plant parent!

It's such a cute delicate looking plant, I love geraniums they are so pretty, but this one almost looks like parsely. Thanks again Summer.

You really can make ANY plant lovable!! 😃 the first thing I do in the morning is to jump on youtube to see if you’ve uploaded anything new, watching your videos is the most relaxing thing. Kudos!
PS: can you talk about ferns more? Like different types and care, I can’t seem to figure them out :(

Great video! I've just got gifted a healthy / mature-ish geranium that needed a winter home. This really answered a lot of the questions that I had about how to care for it.
But I just have to ask did anybody else notice that Summer said she waters 1X/ week during the growing season and 2X/week during winter. I'm assuming that was a slip and that she meant every other week ... biweekly !?

I'll have to smell some geraniums the next time I am at my local nursery, thanks Summer.

My mum had these scented geraniums when i was growing up. I remember a rose geranium, an orange...and one called earl grey, maybe?...
I've been searching for plants today for my deep skylights which have a south west aspect, other plants have not been quite coping with it. These would be PERFECT! THANK YOU for your amazing videos but especially this one as it reminded me of my mum and her plants ♥️🌱

Hi Summer! What a cute little plant! I didn't realize they had this variety. I have a geranium that is a perennial in Idaho and flowers early. In fact, I just deadheaded it. Are these winter hardy, and do they bloom? Thank you for sharing!

If you have any information on the Natal Mahogany plant could you maybe throw that in a video some time? Love your videos, thanks for all the knowledge!!

@1:58 so you’re watering this twice as much in the winter? Is that correct?

AsteroidKillerMusic I think she meant once every two weeks

@@AsteroidKiller This is a winter grower and goes dormant in summer. You will rot it if you water it during summer. Most Pelargoniums are winter growers. Summer growing Pelargoniums are very few. I'm talking about true species here like P. alternans. Those Pelargoniums you normally see in garden centers, supermarkets, etc. aren't really Pelargoniums. I'd say they're fake as they're heavily hybridized and man-made.

That plant looks nearly dead. Is it suppose to look like that? Or is it that this plant doesnt get much sun.

Hi ! I thought it looked sad too, then I checked some images, and it appears to be perfectly healthy. It's a strange plant, it looks quite like a succulent when it's bigger.

Nope, up close the leaves are kind of frilly. They can get huge and have babies profically when they get going

It's pretty much how they all look like when you're dealing with many wildies. But it looked like it was sitting pretty loose in the "soil" so that's something I would worry over if it were my plant.

Geranium and pelargonium are two totally diffrent genuses ...

    • @rhiallbee5775
      @rhiallbee5775 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Pelargonium is a genus of flowering plants which includes about 200 species of perennials, succulents, and shrubs, commonly known as geraniums, pelargoniums, or storksbills. Confusingly, Geranium is the botanical name of a separate genus of related plants. Both genera belong to the family Geraniaceae. Wikipedia

i did not mean to offend any one ... i wanted to accentuate that pelargonium and geranium are two plants that are offten confused and pelargonium is a diffrent category of plants native mostly to the South African continent on the other side geraniums are winter hardy and specific to the reperate climate

@@rhiallbee5775 I don't think mihai thought Summer were wrong, "Geranium" *is* the common name in some countries for Pelargoniums. I personally, as a Pelargonium nerd think it's just fine to react when people tries to bundle them up with geraniums (which Summer didn't do here, just included the name for the ones that do). As they for most part looks very different from each other, it's for the best to keep them seperated when speaking about them imo.
