Just from watching this one video, I see you're serious and knows whats doing, which is rarity, so you are getting one more subscriber. I would like to ask you few questions, as I would like to do something with my plants. 1. When can I take cuttings from plants? It's spring right now at my place. Is it late for taking some or not? I've never done this before so, you could say I'm a rookie when it comes to that. All the years I've been into pelargoniums, I've been focusing on color, mainly. 2. As I've understand, as long as you have softwood parts of the plants, you can take cuttings from it and make the plant bushy? Do roots emerge better if the plant is cut just below the node? I have a 4 year old plant that goes in high, three stems, all softwood. 3. How to take cuttings from falling or hanging spices? 4. Do you have some video about creating hybrids? I would like to try get the new mixed colors, and nowhere to find. 5. I use the mix of nursery soil, coconut peat and sand for plants and it has shown very well. 2/3 nursery soil 1/3 coconut peat and sand. Is that good mixture for cuttings?
Well thanks for subscribing and there are a lot of questions here so I can only answer briefly. You can take cuttings from now on, although for Regals and Angels the best time is the autumn as they throw separate flowering stems which are no good for cuttings. Yes cuttings should be taken just below a node. Most pelargoniums have cuttings taken this way regardless of the type. Your compost mix seems fine although for cuttings mix you could add more sand for plenty of drainage. I have separate play lists for most aspects of growing including hybridisation so take a look at those for your point 4. The only thing you don’t mention is feed which is key to growing pelargoniums successfully. I hope this helps. D

Hi Lynda. What you need to understand is that pelargoniums are cultivars which means that they do not come true from seed, they can only be propagated from cuttings. There are many videos on cuttings on one of the playlists. The only time I get involved with seed is in producing my own hybrids. I did a video all about plant food here th-cam.com/video/tLN40YqAo_k/w-d-xo.html but basically I use a wholesale chemical feed similar to Chempak and a seaweed extract called maxicrop in the summer. I live in Sydney. My Geranium flowers are being attacked by a tiny caterpillar. I have tried many organic sprays but had not helped. What are your suggestions?
You are not saying whether these are potted or garden planted but if potted you can pull them out the pot, put the rootball in a plastic bag, turn it upside down and submerge the body of the plant into a bucket of water with a weak mix of washing up liquid and swill it around a bit. Other than that if you want to go that route you will just have to pick them off by hand.
I will send a photo. Both type of plants are being destroyed by these tiny caterpillars . It’s the buds that they attack. And when the flower blooms most of the petals are ruined. I tried spraying them with a mixture of neem oil, dish washing's liquid and bicarbonate of Soda. But it has not helped. Photo to follow.
You said in another video that pelargoniums are hungry plants and that you fed them always with each watering, but when they are dry the fertilizer might 'burn' the roots, so, do you give plain water first and then feed them in the second watering? I tendens to not giving feed when they are dry, and that is often the case during winter 😊.
Hi, you will probably be able to find commercial varieties in Garden centres on the outskirts of London, certainly nothing in the centre. In terms of specialist varieties the number of specialist nurseries in the country these days is small and certainly none near London. Sorry.

No, not me, I feed at every water and it never seems to be a problem for those that are on the dry side.

How often do you cut back? And on older plants is a certain time of year better to prune? THANK you.
In general it’s about 2-3 times a year. On older plants it’s usually better to cut back in late summer. I’ll link another video in reply to this. D
