I'm not close to the world of politics, but in a country like Australia you're never the full six degrees away from the people who run the place. So you don't have to do a great deal to find out what our leaders are like. In the case of Tony Abbott, you'd likely hear that in more private, relaxed settings, he's great company. Can tell a joke, take a joke, he basically passes the 'superficial stuff' test. But if you ask the electorate the great leveller, "Who would you rather have a beer with?", Tony would score very poorly. For some reason, all the affability and bonhomie he supposedly displays behind closed doors abandons him in public. He comes across as an unctuous, disingenuous schemer, a reptile, a conspiracy nut's wet dream. It makes me think his talents would be better served elsewhere. Now they have to be.

@Big Al yeah I did think about this before the election. Labor do have a habit of taking over the reigns just before the world and Australia's economy goes south. Tony should have fronted up as the candidate for the Australian Conservative Party. Hopefully, in time, this result will nudge the Liberal Party to embrace policies that deal with the reality of climate change.
The reason he lost, was because he was doing, and had done, such a brilliant job of keeping Australia a successful and amazing country to live in. Like Europe, what is now required of a leader is someone who will import thousands upon thousands of immigrants, get the country into debt, bring in swinjeing taxes, force more people into living in their cars and with the ability to lie their way out of any any situation where they might be held accountable for the take-down of said country. Once they have served their tenure, their handlers will reward them mightily, and they will be offered a position on the world stage with big, fat, speaking engagements. Tony Abbot will go down in history as a man who was a true patriot and never, ever, sold out, and moreover as a great great Prime Minister.
Divide and conquer TONY ABBOTT the architect and proud holder of the title of the best opposition leader ever.... leaving behind him a trail of six prime ministers in twelve years, the final victim of his own brutal and efficient machiavellian methods.... .So the chickens have finally come home to roost for this man, and it took the public only seven years to work out this man was a destructive self-indulgent dud. The question is how long will it take for the Australian public to figure out that these methods are still at work and even more finely tuned by the corporate media and their mouth piece the liberal party. These people are determined to never again have a government that will put the interest and welfare of the people over the interests of the corporatocracy.

@@tkawenga6588 I think that's just the sea breeze, lol.
Is it just me a Brit but does Tony Abbott look like a machine washed tony Blair ?
And now the people of Warringah have an independent who has no political experience and no power in the parliament.
...and no solar panels on her roof, either!
The good people of Warringah returned their Independent MP with an increased majority. Apologies to all those bitter and twisted Tony Abbott supporters and the Murdoch media that keep their heads spinning.
Abbott’s lack of self awareness is breathtaking!
Very interesting
Let it be a lesson that a community will not support someone on issues that they don't care for.
So many Abbott parties on his leaving politics.
Well done to all those protesters.
Australian's have got there wish & are enjoying a better Liberal party & politics in general.
There should be a ban on misogynistic men like Abbott being allowed in politics, so that it doesn't happen again.
The best thing is he lost to a woman.
Wonder if he learned from his issues with powerful woman?
Doubt it, probably thinks he's still ahead.

Will give ScoMo the clear air he needs to get on with the job.
TheFleetz Peter Dutton though.
Ahahaha. Oh yeah. What a bang-up job ScuntMo's doing. No plan for drought. No plan for bushfires. No plan for floods. No plan for a pandemic. Just twaddle and pantshitting at Engadine Maccas. Really inspirational.
The stench is still rising from the job that SloMo the smirking shyster did.
Mr Rabbit is mad as a hatter!
this one just gets better with the passage of time
Worst prime minister.
He was a great right wing warrior.
waxed link love to see him shirt front Vlad . The north shore boy would be on his arse in seconds lol warrior ????
@Big Al yes and he loved Muslims dearly.
@Big Al I don't like Abbot or the right wing. I was being sarcastic but it back fired on me. It seems many people are happy to be called right wing these days! It's an indication of what we Australians have become. As a country we have moved so that the right is now the new centre.
@Big Al no worries mate. Stay strong.
@Big Al yeah I did think about this before the election. Labor do have a habit of taking over the reigns just before the world and Australia's economy goes south. Then they get a reputation for increasing national debt. What about personal debt? It's off the charts but the conservatives don't mention it because their whole economic recovery depends on it.

Pretty rich of Tony to get upset about offensive posters of him with swear words when he stood in front of insulting posters directed at Julia Gillard. Always different when the shoes on the other foot. Glad he's gone.
ah , that old chestnut @ he never sponsored those posters they were made by private individuals. Im sure the media were intent on getting that footage because it was going to make a juicy news story .So You're Gillard apologist? Feel comfortable with the way she brought down K .Rudd?

Sad that the end of this well researched item ends with more mendacity from little johnny.
Like abbot, and with hubris, he dug his own political grave.
Together, two skidmarks in the underpants of Australian political history, bereft of meaningful achievements(gun laws aside) after their, combined decades in politics.
Mr. Abbott, Rabbit.
The Labour party needs to be thrown on the scrap heap.
How does the Northern Beaches and the Sutherland Shire keep all the non-whites out? 4 Corners should do an investigation into that great Australian mystery.
Eastern Suburbs too
ScoMo with a wide smile you know
I suss him for funneling funds to Zali.
45 mins which could be better summed up as, Abbott was canned because he lost her prime minstership and people got sick of him. If he was not PM he would be in his seat today.
Great ABC work for once
Oh.. the ABC found a target to pick on after chewing on razor blades all Saturday night. How many ABC staffers took a day off for PDE. Post Election depression
Warringah Shire has now become irrelevant and has no real voice in parliament ! Well done !
yes I thought the same. haven't heard a peep from her since she's gotten in. She made more noise competing for warringah than representing them. Has she even put solar panels on her roof yet?
Zali can't just exist because she defeated Tony. Zali actually has to represent. Remember Zali we are still a conservative electorate.
Good luck with that. She couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery, let alone represent the constituents of the seat of Warringah properly.
she made more noise contesting the seat than representing it. Has she even put solar panels on her roof yet?
@Michael Steers I’m not questioning what he does, he’s gone, he’s out of the picture. Zali steggal came in preaching doing stuff for the environment, whilst owning a thirsty Nissan Patrol and not having solar panels on her roof. You may not subscribe to this notion, but I’m a firm believer of Practicing what you preach, before the fact (you get into Politics). I certainly won’t be taking any advice from her. Nothing more than an opportunist. I know someone who lived in her electorate, and the can’t name a single thing she has achieved for her electorate.
@Michael Steers How is telling me what the former member has or has not done, go to do with what she promised?? You sound like a Steggal sympathiser? Why not talk about Morrison’s or Turnbulls failures next time someone shines the light on Steggal again? 🤔
Why not write an Op-Ed for the Gaurdian about it ? That will be entertaining on your behalf! 🤣
@Michael Steers LoL, you are very entertaining! You clearly don’t know how to do research, do you? You just rely on what the Gaurdian feeds you ( like a chicken!) ? Peta credlin actual Went to Melbourne University, ANU, and studied law. What was it again that you studied?? 🤔 How many degrees did you get from Sequoia University?? 🤣🤣 I’m sure you proudly display those on your wall!
Sometimes it’s best to stay quiet and let people suspect you’re a fool, rather than open your mouth and remove all doubt....😎
I don't need to watch this. I'm just glad he's gone. His own party is too probably.
...too bad they won
They won though...
lol "his own party" won the election
Best outcome for the Libs. Win election, get rid of this wrecking Kent.
Careful ABC...he could be you boss
Abbott's end? He will likely become the ambassador to the US after this. Likely even more political sway than he had🤣🤣
Are you still waiting for the fulfilment of your prediction?
Divide and conquer TONY ABBOTT the architect and proud holder of the title of the best opposition leader ever.... leaving behind him a trail of six prime
ministers in twelve years, the final victim of his own brutal and efficient machiavellian methods....
.So the chickens have finally come home to roost for this man, and it took the public only seven years to work out this man was a destructive self-indulgent dud.
The question is how long will it take for the Australian public to figure out that these methods are still at work and even more finely tuned by the corporate media and their mouth piece the liberal party.
These people are determined to never again have a government that will put the interest and welfare of the people over the interests of the corporatocracy.

Don't despair, hope is on the horizon, my mate's sister's boyfriend says that someone told him that Tony Abbott is about to be appointed as the ABC Editor-In-Chief.
And yet again someone put their own needs ahead of the people of the electorate whowere entitled to a candidate that could maintain the seat for Liberal but out of self interest it was probably handed to Labour shame on you Tony this stinks of John Howard not committing to going full term or not and losing his last election
