- A scientist and a wildlife photographer embark on a high-stakes expedition into the wilderness to find a super-rare, beautiful (and deadly) bird species.
This short film was made as my senior thesis at Wesleyan University. It was filmed in the Fall 2022 semester and edited throughout the Spring 2023 semester. The project marks my first time working with color 16mm film - per the university's rules, it was shot, edited and originally projected on film - and also my first time working with a full crew, which consisted of 16 fellow students and four student actors. It was a major learning experience at every step of the process, and I hope you enjoy the result!
I am profoundly grateful to everyone that made this film possible: to the cast and crew, who brought exceptional talent to the set and kept me steady and sane throughout production; to Wesleyan's College of Film and the Moving Image, for their helpful guidance and support during the entire process, and for providing the opportunity to work with 16mm film; and to everyone who donated to the film's fundraising effort, allowing me to complete post-production and bring the film to festivals. Thank you all!
Please note: this is not the version of the film originally submitted as my thesis in April 2023, but a longer "director's cut" that was completed in September 2023, which includes scenes I couldn't fit into Wesleyan's 12-minute thesis time limit. This version has also been digitally color-corrected, and in some places the editing and sound have been tweaked slightly. If you would like to see the original "thesis cut" of the film, it can be found in this playlist, along with a deleted scene: • Snap Away
