Slow TV - Weymouth Harbour

- Join me for a few scenic stops around Weymouth Harbour in Dorset, taking in the view from various spots along the east side, then a lovely tranquil ride on the Penny Ferry and back up the west side, just in time to see Town Bridge open up to let the boats through.
Slow TV isn't for everyone, and that's OK - nothing is scripted here - no narration or music - nothing much happens, except by chance. Most of the sound in this video is just the various noises of human activity, gulls, boats, water and ocasionally, passing road traffic. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
As a landlocked hillbilly, I appreciate this content.
These must take such effort to collate and edit - and to such a peaceful, gentle effect! Felt like being on the ferry, and present for a thorough wander. "A Winter Day at Bowleaze Cove" will retain the bedtime slot, but this will be lovely for a future afternoon when a quieter mind is of wont. Thank you again for taking the time and effort to make this, and share it with all of us!
These are some of the most enjoyable videos to make. The short boat ride across the harbour was wonderfully serene and healing
@@AtomicShrimpRe: Boat ride - it looked like it would be :) We also just (belatedly) commented on the Bowleaze Cove video, as it certainly deserved a thank-you! Won't take more of your time, just wanted to share the positivity back with you :)
I love Weymouth.
This video reminds me of Southern Television starting up for the evening, showing footage from around the region as music plays before displaying their logo.
Thanks Atomic
Beautiful! Calming! Serene! Thank You ❤❤
Thank you for sharing this beautiful day. ❤
Love it, I sit at the Harbour on my lunch breaks and on sunny days like this Im so happy this town is my home. So Beautiful. Thankyou for the content over so many years. You've helped me a lot without even realising it
Beautiful! Weymouth was virtually my second home when my sister lived there many moons ago.. Been a long time. Possibly going back for a visit next year🙏🏼 Thank you🤗
Just what I needed before I start my busy day.
I remember having picnics on the beach with my family 😊🏖️ and loved the Harbour Bridge being lifted 😊Thanks Atomic shrimp 🦐🤗
Ahoy there, me shivering matey, heave-ho!
I live up on Portland. Always nice to see this beautiful area of the world getting a spotlight
I'm sure I've done the jigsaw puzzle of all these views! Lovely relaxing compilation.
I rember going to Weymouth camping with family as a teenager. One day the wind was so strong we couldnt open the car doors....
Good grief, it is a very long time since I last saw Weymouth. Probably around 60 years ago.
Wow ! What a beautiful day! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for these sorts of videos, your content is so varied yet great
Love that you’ve moved to my part of the world and you can show it off to a large audience. Hope to bump into you and the family on one of these walks one day to shake your hand for all the good work you do spreading knowledge, kindness, and positivity.
"Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing -absolutely nothing-half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. "
So fun to see my home county have such a big audience. I’m based just outside of Bridport.
Brings back memory's of childhood holidays back in the early 70's.Can still remember the shock/excitement of seeing a train driving down the road for the first time.
Wait. What??
@@OGKenG That would be the Weymouth tramway th-cam.com/video/x6XEVvVRB_4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-UdEs5KvCHJcKnzQ
@@OGKenG yea a train used to run from weymouth station to the ferry, along the road mr shrimp started his journey , search on utube for " weymouth harbour train " for a step back in time before elf n stasi ruined everything
@@OGKenG oh yes, Google it, plenty of photos 👍
@@OGKenGWeymouth Harbour Tramway (actually a normal railway rather than a tramway) was a branch from the main line that ran down to the harbour running on tracks along the streets and harbour side, serving harbour side businesses with freight and passengers for the Channel Islands ferries. The last train ran on it in 1999 and I believe it no longer exists.
Nice relaxing day by the looks of it , so peaceful
I grew up in a coastal town, later moved to another town on the same coast. Harbours are very much alike, even in different countries - I'd happily rent a boat for a couple of hours and row... how did you know what I was going to write and film what I had in mind? Another of your time-travelling shenanigans no doubt.
Now i have that song running thru my head
( the mate was a mighty sailing man, the skipper brave and sure)
a three hour tour, a three hour tour
my heart my home 😍 such a beautiful place
Beautiful!
In my home town, recognised the morrisons and Lidl in some of your previous uploads! If you fancy a pint one day pop in the park and I'll buy you a beer. Cheers for the content
what a lovely day!!
I remember the bridge breaking down halfway open in the 80's
Every frame could turn into a beautiful watercolor painting. Very nice!
Truly relaxing, thank you.
Lovely video, Thank you. I have been to Weymouth several times, though not recently - I'm not big on nostalgia, but I do prefer the harbour with fewer yachts (preferably half a dozen or so), and with railway engines on the quayside. It's a lovely place, but due to modern 'bigger and faster' commerce, it's going to get to a point where every 'short sea' port is going to be bereft of any real maritime purpose, and will just be full of pleasure craft, some of which will never leave their moorings. Another downside, is that owners of vessels can, and often do, get public access to adjacent quayside areas blocked, because of fears of crime, so sightseeing people have to either make detours, or even abandon their walk entirely. I worked on port security for nearly 30 years, and can attest to this.
Sad but true.
I loved being based in Weymouth and Portland with the Royal Navy.
11.33 sit there every day on my lunch, I will one day soon confront him and ask him about how his (Jenny’s) green tomato pickle did! Mine (8 jars) did not make it to Xmas
Very nice, pleasant.
Thank you for this video. Really enjoyed it.
There is or was a fisherman's pub used to open at 4am just by the bridge, had plenty of locking there. I remember nothing was open on a Sunday.
Great video! I was in Weymouth a few months ago and the bridge was being repaired, I think. Looks like it's fixed now.
what a lovely place!
Aw it's been many a year since I visited here. Of course I've got another harbour ten minutes from my house I could go visit but I'm watching this instead 😂
Was there in 2000 to compete in the EFSA for Sea Anglers 😅 found memories i was 13
Reminds me of my birth town of Port Angeles, Washington, USA (a ferry ride away to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada) on the Straight of Juan de Fuca as there is a marina. Of course I only lived there until I was eight years old, but do visit once in a while when occasion permits. Very stunning British seaside scene here, Mike.
I don’t know about “we’re gonna need a bigger boat”. But you definitely could’ve used some bigger oars! 😂
Slimmer oars require less effort per stroke, and on the lift/backstroke. The ferryman is there all day, every day, going back and forth - I defer to his choice of equipment
@@AtomicShrimp I'll be honest, it wasn't meant to be anywhere that deep of a comment. Just a little joke about small oars
@@GIBBO4182 fair do's. I did wonder a bit about the oars when I was on the boat
Big or small, the oar was mesmerising. Oarsome?
Correction, the Jaws quote is "You're gonna need a bigger boat"
Hey mr Shrimp. If you ever feel the need to tag this you could use relaxing sleep asmr for this for sure 😂
I wonder how many people think it's the same boat going under the raised bridge, in the shots from two different angles.
Miss this
I wish weymouth Massachusetts looked this beautiful. 😅
Beautiful start to the weekend, I'm off to Cambridge to visit strawberry fair and chill on midsummer's common with some hippies and great music and food and quite possibly a glass of beer.
That sounds amazing, hope you have a good time! :)
No footage of the defunct tracks of the Weymouth Harbor Tramway?
The council ripped them all up and resurfaced the lot a couple of years ago.
More pedestrian friendly now.
❤😊❤
Okay!!!
Watching this from Israel. Help, I want to go home!
Yikes, my condolences that you're in such an awful country
@@DrBagPhD lol. Been here?
first
Slow TV is great, I watched at 2x speed to get faster relaxation. 😜
Very picturesque but too slow for me! I put it at twice the speed but it made the sea to choppy to enjoy the tranquility. Rowing sequence became far too uncool. Thanks for trying.
'Slow TV' is meant to be slow. No dialogue, only ambient sound. It's designed to be relaxing, and indeed, some viewers find these videos enable them to get to sleep.
Some people are far too impatient nowadays - everything is a terrible rush. A fact everyone on this planet seems to conveniently forget, is that all of us, with no exception, is tumbling headlong towards death. Why speed that up? Slow down occasionally, and look around you, and take in every detail. It will take time, and it will be worth it - watch some 'Slow TV' for example.
And relax.
It's not to everyone's tastes, and that's perfectly OK!
This video would be so cool with that movement filter. Where you can see all the small vibrations and it shimmers
