  • We are experiencing a dangerous decline in nature: One million species are threatened with extinction, soils are turning infertile and water sources are drying up.
But there are glimmers of hope: The Ganga river basin is not only home to twenty-five thousand animal and plant species, such as the Ganga River Dolphin, it also forms the spiritual and economic lifeline for almost half of India’s population. With increased pollution, the country’s greatest natural asset is at risk. Watch how farmers, wildlife advocates and government experts are teaming up to bring a river back to life.
Namami Gange has been recognized as a World Restoration Flagship under the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
These initiatives represent Earth’s frontiers of hope, as countries agreed to a new Global Biodiversity Framework. Under the agreement, countries promise to protect 30% of the planet’s lands and seas, and bringing back 20% from degradation.

@@shikshapandey8196 there is no such thing as not polluting. You and I both pollute. Just because you dump your garbage in a dustbin doesn't mean it vanishes into thin air. Your garbage and my garbage ends up either in a landfield somewhere, floats through a river where it's dumped or at best is burned down so that the smoke rises up in the air and depletes the ozone layer slowly. So to advise someone not to pollute is to ask them to do the impossible. We as citizens of India have not yet fully gone plastic free...let alone stop polluting as a whole.

One of the most important aspects of improving water quality is stopping industry runoff or at least treating the water before it is discharged into the river. No matter how many sacrifices the people make, if the industries aren't pressured to take steps to prevent pollution, the change will seem minimal. From this video, it seems that not much has changed in that regard.

I'm sure it's even the case in India between the many different languages, that many towns or natural places are called differently. You should see how we butcher english towns in France... though this tendency is disappearing. Winchester as Bicêtre stays funny :>.

Ganga was the river around which the second wave of the Indian civilization was made. It is where a lot of our culture and beliefs come from. It is holy not because of religious reasons but because of its selfless gift of life for one of the oldest civilizations still alive today. We need to save it and all the life within it not because of its holy nature but because we will die without it.
