    Very nice stuff. If I had to give you a tip, use your WDT/puck rake tool as minimally as you can while still achieving an even puck density before tamping. The more you move the grounds, the more you tend to create voids/holes in the puck which lead to channeling.

    • @QTHomeCafe
      @QTHomeCafe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow thank you! That makes sense now. I always thought the opposite so I’ve been wondering why I still see channeling no matter how much I prep it.

    I have a quick question. A few seconds after you press the brew button, it looks like the pump stops and then immediately after it resumes, in what looks like some sort of preinfusion... Is that something you are doing manually or part of the PID?

      Thank you so much for your kind words! We didn't realized that you have asked a question. It might not be relevant to you anymore but it was something that we do on our own and it's not part of PID or Gaggia. Doing so by press the brew button and turn the steaming knob slightly for 5-10 seconds, then turn off the knob and continue brewing espresso. DId you end up getting any espresso machine?

    Hello! Thanks for a lovely video. So satisfying to watch. I'm about to get into home espresso and my Gaggia Classic Pro and Sette 270 are on the way. One question - why do you transfer the steamed milk from one jug into another before pouring? I've seen other baristas doing that and always wondered why, given the final jug would be cooler in temp. Thanks!

    • @QTHomeCafe
      @QTHomeCafe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there! Thank you for your kind words :) and excited for you to get your home espresso journey going! I actually prefer to pour latte art in a bigger size pitcher since it allows me to get close to the surface without accidentally starting the pour early. One of the key factors in latte art is to get as close to the surface as possible in order to get a nice pour going🙂
      I also find that transferring helps to incorporate the milk for better texture, instead of having a more foamy layer on top. You’ll also find that the steam wand size for home espresso machine isn’t great for steaming using a large pitcher, quite a difficult angle. So steaming in a smaller size makes it easier to get the right angle, and also not wasting milk.

  • @CoffeeNo0b0514

    I can't get my milk to do that with mine. I think my milk pitcher might be too small? I have a 12 oz pitcher. Normally do 6 ounces of milk that stretched to about 10 ounces. It looks good, but never creates a pattern in the Latte. Just goes below the surface.

    • @QTHomeCafe
      @QTHomeCafe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! Hope your latte art journey is going well, I would definitely try to get a bigger milk pitcher. You need a little more room to steam. Also, if you are looking to do latte art with your milk, that might be a bit too much air in the milk.

    • @Mongiloyd
      @Mongiloyd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Having installed a PID on many Gaggias Id say you can do it. Even bolt it on or use heat resist adhesive. But imo don't do it and still use the filling funnel, you want to strain the wires as little as possible.

      Hi there, PID is a great mod for this machine and good luck on installing it. Just a quick advice, read through the manual one time before you start installing it - makes things a lot easier.
      I also didn't like to have the PID on the side. In the PID kit I purchased, they gave me double sided tape so that's how it's on top of the machine. It sits right on the lid and I can still easily open the lid to fill up water tank. Just be extra careful when opening the lid, but so far so good for me :)

    • @QTHomeCafe
      @QTHomeCafe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have PID installed? If you do not have PID, typically I would turn on the steam button for about 20 seconds then right before I steam milk I would purge for like
      2 seconds to get rid of any water in the steam wand and then I steam my milk. after I’m done steaming, I would purge again for 2 seconds to get rid of any milk residue in the wand and wipe down any surface that has milk on it with a wet towel and turn it off.
      If you do have PID, the only difference is that you want to steam when your steaming temperature is around 295-300F. The rest is the same. I hope that helps!

    • @QTHomeCafe
      @QTHomeCafe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! From my understanding since i'm using a 18-22g basket, I should be dosing on the higher end of the basket around 21-22g instead of 17-18g of dosing. There's just too much room in the basket if you underdose and it will get soupy and hard to control. If you are only aiming to brew at a 17-17.5g dosage, I would recommend getting a 18g VST basket.
