    It's fun to see the progress of Jos' setup. This handle I think is one that jan-willem was making for these groups before Jord released his. I've been a smith for about 10 years, and I often look back as Jos' videos to see that he's so consistent, it's a pleasure to watch. (But not compete against! >:( )

    Great video. It would be nice if I see a dimple key impressioning... Not only the foil impression but also an actual dimple key made by hand

    what diopter magnifier do i need for this? I think the one I have isn't strong enough and I think i'm misreading the marks because I keep cutting keys below the depth they need to be when I compare to original key to see if i'm getting it right so I'm still seeing marks when I shouldn't, any advice on what i may be doing wrong?

    You can get the micrometer and file in that vid, as well as key grips, Oliver Diederichsen' s book on Impressioning and a hand-held illuminated magnifier at UK Bump keys

    In the 1980 S I could impression a BMW in five minutes and I could do the same thing with sabb and VW and I have had the same file for over 30 years and it has never let me down and the only thing I need is a file with a small pair of vice grips and the proper key blank I’m very good at impressions.
    The most important thing to remember never oil the lock while doing this because it will make it hard to to get to see the marks.

    "consistency is key"... hah

    It looked like the big portion of the lens was ~2-3 diopter, and the small section was around 5-6 diopter.. The higher diopter, the better magnification a person gets.

    The process looks easy enough but what type and grit of file should one use for this method?

    • @RubberBanned
      @RubberBanned 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A #4 swiss cut, full round file, preferably 6 inch

    like other impressioning books and videos no information on identifying blades.. I can impression brass keys with a lighter and #4 file in the dark with a head lamp but still can't profile a key blade..

    I was successful at making a key that works on a master lock #3 but I can't get the key out of the lock. What do I do? Thanks

      Most likely you've cut one of your valleys too steep, so the pin is colliding with a surface instead of being dragged upward. If you smack the lock onto a hard surface, spring-side down, and try to pull the key out at just about the same moment, you may have luck removing the key.

    Can someone help me out. I am hoping to be a locksmith and learning skills etc. Wouldnt a more efficient way to deal with no key be to pick the lock then re key it? Could someone explain why you would impression rather than do this. Thank you

    • @RubberBanned
      @RubberBanned 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the field, it can be a devil to pick a lock, like if it's a lever, or an odd orientation. There's also the chance that the lock is not rekeyable, and needs to be impresssioned to get a key. And once you have a key, it never needs to be picked again. Source: I am a locksmith and competitive impressioner.

    A file is made of harder material than anything it would come in contact with, the tubing sleeve is pretentious and ridiculous

    @impressioningking Are you seriously trying to teach an actual impressioning king how to impression a key?
    You're delusional.
