Scotland - Part 2 - West Coast NC500 and Home - Still No Motorways (or Midges!)

- This video was sponsored by "My Mum" who fed me the best fried egg sandwich and tea in the UK - even on Mother's Day! A shout out to my Dad who introduced me to motorbikes at an early age and taught me well - not to be afraid of spanners. Also, a shout out to my brother who is also under the influence of two wheels, even if it is a BMW!
The west coast of Scotland following the NC500 out of season in the first week of March 2024. Open roads, clear blue skies, no traffic! What else could I ask for?
The final part of my unplanned journey across Scotland. They are called the highlands for a reason - there are no lows! An absolute stunning part of the world, right on my doorstep (within reason).
If you ever find yourself with time off work, in early march or late September , and kicking your heals for a week or two - go here! Brave the cold because the midges are asleep and so is everyone else. It also supports local businesses who rely on seasonal trade! In hindsight, and retrospective googling, I might have missed a bit of the official NC500....
Oh well, it gives me an excuse to go back and do it again (clockwise this time!)
Ride safe and don't forget to switch your winkers off!

Lovely laconic delivery. Good wee video. Thanks.
Thanks for the compliment. I am glad you enjoyed it.
Great vlog buddy was a pleasure to take the trip with you. Most enjoyable.
I've done these roads with my better half by car, but never on the bike. As yet ..... Awesome part of the planet.
Must say. You're a brave soul doing the trip in winter. But nice and quiet though.... Bonus
Shiny side up brother .... 🫡
Thanks for the generous comments. Yup, winter tests the gear and senses! Glad you enjoyed it and hope you get to bike it also.

It looks great! I’m going to go there too when I get my Himalayan 411 😀
Great bike to do it on and other trips too I would add! Hope you enjoy the 411 it as much as I do. Happy travels!
@@BackRoadBimbles Thank you!
Hi I've done these routes many many times and it never gets old 👍👍....fairly close to scotland i live north Cumbria....if you ever get chance these are some of my fave destinations isle mull.. hebrides...and shetland they are amazing...didnt do them on my himalayan 😉😊 suzuki vstroms 1050 /650 ....sold my first himalayan total regret so I've got another 👌👌atb
Totally agree, went to mull on my fazer in 2006 (i think). Lovely place, especially Iona. Loads of hidden gems in Scotland so intend to explore more in the future on the Himalayan. Thanks for watching.
You can tell that you are riding out of season.... because the viewing points and lay by's are not full of camper vans. Wherever there is an amazing vista or a view that deserves a photograph, you can be sure there will be a camper van parked right in the middle of it with someone enjoying a leisurely cup of tea / lunch and in no hurry to leave... I mean, look at that view! Brilliant trip, thanks for taking us along. P.s. there is more of a chance of finding petrol in the Highlands than there is in North Wales!
I dread to think whats it’s like on a bank holiday weekend! Quite true about North Wales petrol. I have had a few moments thinking how easy my bike would be to push to Betws Y Coed if it came to it 😂. I am glad you enjoyed the videos. Thanks :)
@@BackRoadBimbles when I rode the NC500. I diverted off the route near Tongue as the weather was what my dad would have called dreich. I could tell the moment I rejoined the recognised route as the camper count shot up... and I was there in mid September. Hoping to be back in Scotland in May and North Wales in Sept as Snowdonia and I have unfinished business... remember last Easter? Me too. Snow, motorbikes and the pass at Llanberis do not make for a good time.
Cracking! absolutely loved both parts, thank you! 😊
Glad you enjoyed them, had lots of fun making these so have a few more in the pipeline. Thanks for watching!
Another cracking video. Great follow up. I am seriously enjoying these.
