Tip for the future. Next time that you want to cut into metal to install something like the fans, install butyl tape inbetween them. It last longer than caulk and is a lot better. Other than that this is an amazing job!
It'd be a sweet addition if you added an exterior dust collection system that's routed through the exterior shell of the container. Just sweep the foam beads into a corner where the collection would be located. Kinda like a built in vac system for a house.
Nice job overall, but you should consider opening that vent and paining the exposed metal you created while cutting. It will rust fairly quickly if you don’t
How come no "rain cover" or something like that at the top the air vents ? You did seal it. Is that enough ? Thinking that over time, the sun and rain/snow would destroy the sealing agent and then water would get inside.
Next time when using silicone, prepare some water mixed with liquid soap. Dip your finger in the mixture and smooth the freshly applied silicone, silicone shouldn't stick to your finger.
This project is awesome. There's a small mistake IMHO made around the 2:00 and 3:35 mark. When sealing vents for water penetration, I was always taught to leave the bottom edge unsealed. Water often will eventually get in regardless of sealing the top and sides, and best practice is to leave the bottom open so that the water can drain out / evaporate. By sealing all sides, the water is now trapped and you have water pooling / puddling / molding. I guess this may vary by product so if the install directions said to apply sealant around all four sides, then my bad.
As long as the caulk is in good condition no water should get in in the first place. Saying you should leave the bottom edge unsealed makes less sense than just re-caulking any leaking areas.
@@khalil7011 Water doesn’t generally flow up hill. And inspecting sealant / caulk frequently enough to catch a bad seal before any rain at all can get in is not going to happen, let’s be realistic.
