    MURS is the forgotten radio band. In certain circumstances, VHF radio is better than UHF, especially in the woods. As a matter of fact, in Oregon, for search and rescue we use the 155mhz band. When we have crappy reception we'll set someone up in a high location as a manual repeater. It works well.
    Great review, Eric. I think you're going to be happy with the VHF in the wooded area of your farm. Just another radio to have at your disposal...

    Good review. I like that you left the receiving radio outdoors, and walked rather than confined your transmissions in a vehicle. Could you in further tests give us a look at 1/2 mile and 1 mile on the MURS frequencies.

      I somehow don't think the FCC anticipated that Walmart would be so friggin cheap as to take advantage of MURS, and FRS when you consider that they can well afford to pay for their own private business frequencies... And Walmart has had the nerve to tell people like us to get off THEIR channels. Retevis makes some very good radios... But they come up short on the programing. If Cobra, Icom, Midland... can design their radios to at least be able to manually change the CTCSS/DCS tones without the need of a PC, why can't Retevis.

    • @2148aa
      @2148aa 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@baronedipiemonte3990 My assumption is Walmart radios are encoded. One has to be inside the store to cause trouble or to have them cause trouble to third parties. Beats PA paging of years gone by.

    • @ericdee6802
      @ericdee6802 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@baronedipiemonte3990 I'd safely say that "Retevis" purchases the radios from some other manufacturer and puts their brand on it. I couldn't imagine "Retevis" having their own ability to manufacture these radios themselves.

    Basic Info for MURS. Channels 1-3 are Narrow band (11.25kHz), and 4-5 are Wide band (20.00kHz). Max 2 watts all channels. A true "short range" simplex radio (used by Walmart incidentally), non-repeater capable (unless you survive the grandfathered clause since the rule change). Its old school, and pretty quiet in most areas.

    • @2148aa
      @2148aa 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are going run you out of the CB brotherhood. Only way is get back into good graces is to mount your CB on a lawn mower and shoot video showing you talking into the next county with a 102 whip. Surgesting that MURS can outdo CB makes you a radio airitic. Remember CB is for DXing.

    My Retevis MURS radios look just like that but the antenna is fixed. I took one of them apart and installed a BNC connector where the antenna had been. Trying to use a rubber duck or a magnetic antenna on the car top didn't work well. It was much worse than the original rubber duck. With the original rubber duck we can talk car to car on the interstate almost 1/4 mile.

    MURS VHF is dead all the time absolutely no traffic on it whatsoever in southeastern Wisconsin at least so the only thing I really hear are these annoying data bursts whatever they are I don't know if it's Doppler or what it is but it seems to be intermittent like it's going clockwise Innoway sounding that means it's got to be some type of Doppler running or some thing I have no idea but it's annoying hearing all those data breasts when trying to listen for any traffic but I've given up scanning those MURS frequencies

    Info: use a counterpoise 16 inch piece of wire hanging down now you have a dipole with a long range just unscrew the antenna wrap the wire around it and now your antenna will cover a lot more range. Its called a counter poise ease piece of wire and it makes a difference.

      MURS is defined as Multi Use Radio Service by FCC. There are five 150 MHZ frequencies that are designated for use. These radios do not require a license and can be used by anyone. They radios are limited to 2 watts.

    • @FarpointFarms
      @FarpointFarms  ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't say what one is best, but I agree, they almost have too many models to choose from.

    • @CzechSixTv
      @CzechSixTv 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The differences between models are mostly size, battery capacity and the IP rating(water dust resistance). For example, the RT47V's that I own are IP67 rated for water/dust but must be charged in a dock. The RB17V's have a much larger battery that can be directly charged with a USB-C cable but are not IP rated. They are all 5 channels with the same 2w output.
      Personal opinion, out of the Retevis MURS offerings, I'm sticking with the RT47V's for their durability. We regularly used them on the family hunting property and while riding ATV's. They've gotten dunked, dropped and have generally taken a beating with only 1 failing after being run over by a near 800lb quad.
