Brent was my favorite too he had energy that was contagious to the rest of band and Jerry was really enjoying it. I think when Brent died it destroyed Jerry and he never overcame it and began doing the Persian again
They opened 47 shows with this track and I have listened to all of them in the past few days. This by far is the best version. Brent’s energy is incredible. I’m not sure how it’s possible to thumbs down this insane feel good track.

Maybe they’re underrated overall. But they’re beloved by those of us that know them and love them. I kind of think us Deadheads like it that way. If you know, you know. We never wanted the Dead to be the most popular band in the world, we wanted them to be just what they were. And we love them for that, they were just what we needed, and thanks to the tapers and TH-cam, they still are.
My Mom always thought they were like a death-metal band because of their name. I played some GD at at her friends’ anniversary party. I was plying DJ… Anyways I received all kinds of compliments on the GD tunes that they had know idea who it was. Some of those assholes scoffed at the very name even they had just complimented on the music. FUCK THEM, use lube, but F-them… 💀

If all else fails , Twirl. It works for Me to this day. Thanks Jerry. And You too Robert Hunter. God Bless both of You. 🙏
Me too except I'm devastated that this is last Tour coming up. I'm 59yr old female 1st show was English Town 1977. They've been only constant in my life for 45 years.
It really was a great first show. Alpine Valley in those days really was the Mecca of the Midwest for the Grateful Dead and they were really in their prime.@StewBedazzle
I was there and this was in the middle of my wondrous adventure. 82-95. Still on the BUS baby! ! ! Love you all and thank you Jerry for giving all you gave.
You know what I’ve had stuck in my head for three weeks? Just the last minute of this video. All night , all night, all night long, all night, all night long, all night
This was my first show… the very first song I heard the Dead play. We were supposed to be gone one night… I came home 49 days later, having seen the entire rest of this Tour.. and I’m still going to see these guys to this day. Went to the Sphere last month. The Grateful Dead changed my life.
I was 7th row center for this show. On a clear day I can still see me. Great set list. I remember seeing the notices that they were video taping. There was electricity running thru the crowd. Glad it finally came out. I spent 3 days there camping and found a great cubensis connection. Great great time
I watched this a few years back one night when I was alone and really spun out bad on L and when I read “Downhill from here” the biggest sense of relief came over me and I was dancing in the middle of the room not a minute later
That's the thing about the Dead.... One can be lost and having trouble finding their way. The Dead will pull the bus over and let you on and take you home safely. I needed a ride several dif. times throughout my journey and they were always there to pick me up (~};-]
Fucking outstanding! Saw them live in 77 in Boulder CO. Rode a Yamaha 650 twin 1400 miles round trip! Sure glad I did to be able to say I saw them live✊
Isaac Sweeney I know it is. Like all the music at the end too. Days Between, Lazy River Road, So Many Roads...It’s all sick, the 60s, 70s, etc. I guess it’s just me but I really like the way Brent played. I like the way Melvin Seals plays too.
They were playing in a large field near my home in Kansas in the early 70’s. I was maybe 11 or 12. It was a blast but of course the fear of getting caught got to me and I went home. I never forget that fun vibe.
Yes! Totally agree. Jerry and Brent holding down their side. You know it's a good time when Jerry would smile qns react to Brent feeling it! Ahhh makes me feel so good.
I miss you, Jerry! I was so fortunate to be able to see you live...a once in a lifetime soul. A Beethovem, Picasso, Wagner...he had the universal life essence in his spirit.
was at Cal Expo in Sacramento, when I first heard this tune. Never knew they did it before. Sunday pm, ending a GREAT 3 day run of shows. I can't begin to explain ( I know most on this list know what I mean)how thrilling it was to dance to this, with my face plastered with a sun-sized, heart pounding, loving everybody grin. that acapella chorus at the end.......are you kidding me? Spectacular.
every show was a spiritual experience I have seen over 200 shows all over the us changed my life good and bad but I know. i wouldn't change it for anything
I have to say... I was introduced in 1993 at Soldier's Field, Chicago Illinois. Been a musician for 20 years. 12 rows from the stage right in front of Gerome. Changed my life forever.
What gets me about this video is the TH-camr seemed to post this video passing by. Yes, the video is iconic. This tells me more about how the Grateful Dead touches people than the TH-camr. I will say he recognizes greatness.
This was my Third show and definitely when I was hooked for sure. In all honesty it was Brent who had my attention and kept me hanging in there those first two shows until I felt all the magic. If it takes all fucking night long.
Alpine. Such a historic venue! I wish they would bring it back to prominence.... it's hardly used for shows anymore. Maybe a couple a year. I've seen so many great shows there over the years!
This song is just the epitome of good vibes
