    Just some advice for those who ask on times, I made the mistake to overestimate this day and thus taking the bus from chikatsuyu to shorten a bit the step so it was around 23km and I started early. The good thing is that I had plenty of time to visit hongu but arrived really early like 2 pm. I would recommend to start like proper mountain hike at 6 or 6.30 so you can do the full hike, take rest and still arrive on time to visit hongu. You can also try to stay at tsugizakura so I balances the previous step and this one. Have a great hike!!

      I think 2 km with significant elevation gain. You can check on the map. It took me less than 1 hour. There are buses but not frequently. I stayed at the same hostel. It was nice. Their Onsen is good.

    Hi! I'm walking the Nakahechi in this summer. This segment is the one that "scares" me the most, not in terms of physical effort but in terms of time. Did you manage to go from Chikatsuyu to Hongu area visiting decently what's in between? (Oyunohara, Kumano Hongu Taisha, Yunomine Onsen...) Or did you schedule something for the day after? Thanks a lot.

      You're correct in your assumption. It is a long day. I made the mistake of starting a little late at 8am. I finished right at sunset. I had to go very fast from Kumano Hongu Taisha to Yunomine Onsen. What I'll recommend is starting at 7am from Chikatsuyu. Additionally, depending on your pace, it might be better to save Kumano Hongu Taisha for the next day. Because the walk from Ukegawa to Koguchi will only take 4-6 hours you'll have more time on that day.

      @@AdventureTravelWithSuyash Interested to hear how this commenter ended up faring. We're plannign a trip in November now and this day has given me similar concerns. Glad to see this advice! We're hoping to start out at 7 AM, and then saving Hongu Taisha for the next day if we need to.

      @@TheGnashers i'm a bit concern of a november trip as the daylight is short; i think about a chikatsuyu-hosshinmon hike then bustop to yunomine onsen then the next morning bus again to hosshinmon to complete the hike to hongu and take the rest of time to visit the onsen area.
      The other solution is maybe to take the akagi goe before hosshinmon for yunomine but i don't know how long it take to make chikatsuyu-yunomine by this way..

      I should've included this in my videos. I don't remember the price but you can google it.
      Minshuku Chikatsuyu- Highly Recommend. Best host! Great food!
      J-Hoppers Kumano Yunomine Guesthouse- Highly Recommend! Cheap with private onsen!
      Koguchi Koguchi Shizen-no-Ie- Good. Unique. I have videos of this place in Day 3 video.

    hello I am planning to do very early in the morning Takijiri Oji to Yunomine Onsen in 1 day, I am quite fit since I do running very often, I know they are 35 km more or else, do you think is doable if I start at 7 AM from Takijiri?
    Thank you

    • @AdventureTravelWithSuyash
      @AdventureTravelWithSuyash  ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll need to maintain a speed of about 4 km per hour. It is doable for super-fit people who are used to the mountains. Remember that it is not 35km on flat ground. It has about 2500m of elevation gain and loss. This will slow you down a lot. The good thing is that there are a few bus stops along the way, so if you feel like you are going too slow, you can take the bus to skip some sections.

      we are doing it in July of this year, that feat sounds doable if you go at 4am not 7am. You might encounter weather and need to make allowance for that, the slippery trail will slow you down.

      @@kidrn4u in the end we splitted this in two parts, first day from Takijiri to Tsugizakura which is almost half way and the second from Tsugizakura to Hongu and back to Yunomine to sleep
